lol, ever been to MN? Little advice, don't believe everything you hear.

I used to spend most of August going between relatives houses in Pelican Rapids, Alexandria, and Minneapolis from the ages of 8-14. I even spent a XMas in Pelican Rapids once, which was fun because of the frozen lakes and snowmobiling. I really liked how everybody seemed to live on a lake and had a boat, but once the sun went down in the summer, you literally had to go inside or you'd get eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Olshey says Batum called him without Minnesota/agent knowledge to tell him he didn't say those things & that he was told to say those things

Seems like a stretch.

What seems like a stretch?

Now the mosquito thing is true. It is the state bird after all. But it rarely get's to -20, especially in the twin cities.

That he was only saying things because he was told to. It just seems more like a trying to make things better with the fans statement. His agent won't care if he's thrown under the bus by Nic. He works for Nic, and doesn't get paid without him. Kahn, well, whatever.

Minny's in about the same boat we are. If through an unbalanced trade they can turn their cap space into a good player, and flip DWill into a similar player at a position of need, they'd be in very good shape.

Unfortunately, they screwed up this free agency. They should have signed and traded Dwill for a 10 Mil/year Batum, then turn their cap space into a player instead of wasting time with an offer sheet.

No way that Olshey would have accepted a s&t for just Williams if rumors were correct.

Kahn may not be all the great of a GM but your GM isn't looking all that great right now either.

I'm curious why you say that... what exactly did Neil do to make himself look bad. He was consistent the entire time saying they planned to match. I don't think telling Minnesota to actually come up with something more than imaginary cap space before they make the offer is unreasonable. If GMs were allowed to do that they could just throw out max contract offers to screw over the team with the Bird rights. He was trying to work the system and he was really bad at it. Just came out looking like an idiot.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm quite certain Nicolas wanted to play for Adelman and with Rubio.

But all in all, this whole saga has been one colossal circle jerk of agent speak, double-talk and shinola ... mostly by Kahn and Nic's agent. Glad Olshey didn't flinch.

From Wikipedia:

Due to its location in the northern and central portion of the U.S., the Twin Cities has the coldest average temperature of any major metropolitan area in the nation. Winters can be very cold, summer is warm to hot and frequently humid, snowfall is common in the winter and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall occur during the spring, summer and autumn.

Sorry, dude, but the climate is not something you want to put on a promotional flyer for NBA prospects. ;)

Olshey also said that #Batum told him the T-Wolves asked him to make comments about wanting to leave the #Blazers; play in Minnesota.>>>>>>>>

To be fair, he said it "rarely" gets to -20 in the Twin Cities, which is true.

It really doesn't take much for fans to forgive. It will work.

I agree, especially with more casual fans, who don't care a ton about following every bit of news, and will just get a few of the more prevalent media updates. Will see that and be ok. Really, I don't care either way. Nothing wrong with being more enticed with being there, as long as he is happy being here, and plays close to his deal.

I wouldnt be surprised if Batum fired his agent after this is all over.
Why would he? All this drama got Nic at least 10-15mil more than we all expected. He did his job ultimately-- even if he was a dick and severely burned some bridges along the way.

Penis guys still holding on to any shred of hope they can find.

If POR needs to agree to the contract by 11:00 PM tonight, why is the physical supposedly scheduled for tomorrow?

How does it work? Would failing a Blazers physical after the signing the contract, void it? I don't know the recourse.

Were he to fail after the signing of the contract, I could see a set of events where, Paul Allen matchs, then has Batum fail the physical after Minnesota has moved on to other players to lower Batum's asking price. Paul Allen is a vindictive sprite.

If Portland matches and were able to rescind the offer and Minnesota had moved on in the meantime, therefore Minnesota wouldn't have the space required to make the same offer. With money drying up in FA, Batum either signs an offer sheet for less from a team and Portland matches the lower offer or Batum plays for the QO? Can Portland even match a offer sheet after they declined one due to a failed physical? Would be interesting?

Really? I think he should give him a bonus! The agent comes out looking like a jerk but ultimately he made more money for Nic and himself. By training camp, Blazer fans are going to forget all about it and Nic is going to love playing with Damian.

@blazerfreeman "Olshey said Batum's contract is not as large as has been reported ($46.5 mil). Said there were incentives included that were denied by NBA."

time to change thread title again!
