Olshey also said that #Batum told him the T-Wolves asked him to make comments about wanting to leave the #Blazers; play in Minnesota.>>>>>>>>

@blazerfreeman "Olshey said Batum's contract is not as large as has been reported ($46.5 mil). Said there were incentives included that were denied by NBA."

time to change thread title again!

Oh Kahn, how I'll miss you when you're gone.

So basically he'll be getting paid 4/43.5 before incentives I assume

If he earns those incentives, good for him

This contract just isn't that bad.

The incentives were tossed, weren't they?

I'd say this is a pretty reasonable contract. I figured Nic would get $9-10 million per year (someone who have paid him that at least, especially given he's a RFA). So we overpay $1 million per year. I wouldn't have even been outraged if we had offered this to Nic up front.

You think if his agent hadn't acted like a dick to Portland that Minnesota would have only offered their coveted RFA 30-35 million?

I don't think it helped Batum at all. Like, at all.

In fact, we don't know that Batum ended up with any more money than Portland was offering him originally.

Looks like you're right about the incentives. I stopped following this thing closely about a week ago.

Blazers GM Neil Olshey had an interesting spin on Nicolas Batum's comments about preferring Timberwolves: "Nic never said that. Let's be very clear. Nic made a couple of comments at the behest of the Minnesota Timberwolves and his agent. That was their agenda, it was never Nicolas's agenda. If I wasn't in constant contact with the kid, I wouldn't tell you that. I can tell you that Nicolas called me after those articles went out and said, 'They asked me to do this. They put me up to it. It's not me. I want to talk to you directly Neil. I don't want my agent to know or another team to know. I just want you and I to be on the same page.' He always wanted to be back in Portland. I think he would have liked to have done the deal straight up just like I would have. But he listened to his representative and that's his prerogative. His representative did a great job. He got him a hell of a deal. Now we move on. The Portland fanbase should in no way resent Nicolas Batum for this."

Year 1 and 2 of Nicolas Batum's salary is $10.7M, year 3 is $10.9M and year 4 is $11.2M. #Blazers

WTF?

What happened to $46.5 million (average of $11.63 per)?

Kahn fucked up the contract. The league invalidated some of the incentives.

There is NO WAY Kahn made a mistake like that. He is a highly paid professional. There must be some other explanation.

Nicolas Batum.

4 years.

43.5 million.

Not.

Overpaid.

Uhm, he already had one invalid sheet, it really surprises you he'd fuck the second on up?

That's a very interesting quote, truly.

Kahn is a joke. Can't believe he has a high profile job like this the way he does things.

Be honest, you still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy right?

'RipCIty88' should be ashamed for his actions toward Nic and his GF.

I know Blazer fans pounced on the guy, but still...

What?

http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USMN0503

Minneapolis: Average Jan lows of 7 (-14C).

http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USOR0275

Portland: Average Jan lows of 38 (3C).

One place is frozen most of the time.

One place is not.

I was replying to him saying that it was -20 a lot which it is not.

The 7 degree average lows makes for great ice fishing. I wouldn't trade it for any place that has no ice fishing. I'd have trouble finding a frozen mud puddle in Portland.

well, there ya go. If you're a free agent who's really into Ice Fishing, POR is not for you. It also lacks a vibrant Turkish community.

You guys are going to overpay for Batum. I guess that could be an accomplishment to a division rival?

I would rather see Batum on the Wolves than not but it is completely up to the Blazers either way.

I think we Blazer fans don't completely appreciate that inadvertent or not, MIN got its pound of flesh. Without MIN playing stalking horse, we pay Nico $8MM a year.

I didn't think the green font was really needed.

Next time I might use it.

Probably not.

Well that's great news! But this imaginary cap space issue is even worse for Minny. It's a shitty city in terms of weather and night life. Worse than Portland (At least we have good coffee and strip clubs!). Good luck finding a free-agent yearning to travel to -20˚F weather for more money.

I actually like the Twin Cities quite a bit. Great art scene, good music scene, summers are nice and they have walkways for the winter. Summit Ave in St. Paul is beautiful, even with the elms gone. They also have the Viks, Twins and Wild.

My grandfather was from Minnesota. Raised on a dairy farm.

Ran away at 12. Rode the rails to California. During the Great Depression.

Told me that doing chores (taking care of those damn cows) during the Minnesota winter was the hardest thing he had ever done. Harder than making it on your own as a 12 year old during the Great Depression.

But, yeah, I guess if you get to go ice fishing, it might help.

Maybe, a little.

They actually had a video posted last year of DWill and Malcolm Lee ice fishing and they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.

No need to go to Minny for that, we've got excellent hunting and fishing including ice fishing here in Eastern Oregon - about 4 hours from PDX. I have been ice fishing as well and I enjoyed it, but I couldn't enjoy it properly since it's mostly about drinking beer (and I don't drink).

Utah fans are smiling.

Of course, nobody thinks Millsap is overpaid any more.
