I don't think Cleveland can trade away either since they're both included in our deal even though we only get 1.

We will waive Haywood and trade miller for a second rounder...even as wounded with time miller is he is still valuable to contenders who want a three and done guy

I'll bet they could do a deal like 'you get whichever of the two picks Portland doesn't get', or 'you get the Lakers pick if Portland does not exercise their option to take it, otherwise you get the 2023 and 2024 2nd round picks'.

So Portland had a certain amount of cap room to sign players and make other lopsided trades. Granted this was a lopsided trade, but these players go against their cap and it goes against their flexibility, no? Should I assume it's the teams goal to be bad this year and not make any effort to improve?

Only 2.8 of it goes against the cap. Haywood is not guaranteed.

Only until we get rid of these players, which will likely be soon.

Not only is that illegal, but it was specifically modified for this reason in the 2011 CBA.

When a team trades a player who is subsequently waived by the receiving team, it cannot claim the player off waivers or re-sign the player until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract6, whichever is earlier7.

No they didn't. It is 80% of the cap you have to spend I believe. But, the penalty is really no penalty at all. If they don't hit it then Paul just has to write a check to the current players.

So when get 2 free second round picks for this basically. Get to waive Haywood immediately and then buyout Miller so other then this costing PA a couple of million we are getting something for nothing.
