Terry Stotts was lucky in that he was free of criticism because he was white.
I remember going to YAWS in our neighborhood when I was REAL young!
Portland isn't going to have cap-space this summer. It very likely won't even have the full-MLE. All it will have is the tax-MLE. That's less than 6M dollars. Blazers won't have a pick of all-star level free agents for that kind of money. They won't have a pick of starting level players. The best they can hope for is some role-player that will slot into the lower end of the rotation. They won't be losing some gem of a player because the new head coach has a vagina
It's nonsense when people make everything about race.
Nobody holds back criticism for a coach because of their race. Terry Stotts was a very competent coach for many years. His teams were never talented enough to be favorites, and were perceived to be underachievers. Terry Stotts did well enough to not be fired. He might have been fired in 2019, if the team had lost in the first round. Making the conference finals bought him a couple more years. Stotts was competent, but not great. He rarely made serious gaffs and he worked well with Olshey and kept hopes up that the team would compete in the west.
Nate McMillan lasted 7 years with a sub 500 record and never made it out of the first round of the playoffs. If race was an issue, he would have been fired after missing the playoffs the first 3 years he coached the Blazers.
I think Chauncy Billups will make a great hire. He had the kind of playing career that translates well to coaching. He was strong mentally and a solid defensive player. He was disciplined, and a winner. I think he would relate to the players well. It's not all about X's and O's. It's about motivation, commanding the respect of the players and getting them to run through a wall for you.
Less plastic. Why were cars so much cooler back then
So if I remember correctly, the first round of interviews were virtual, and only a select few would do in-person stuff.
Wonder when Dame gets involved
The W looks like a 55 Chevy but w/straight back moldinghere's a test....identify all three cars passing by on the right there

The politics and personal insults need to stop.
Thank you.

Score 140 a game and lose in the playoffs. Let’s find a defensive minded coachI like Staley or MDA.
He’d unleash nuclear Dame. And the biggest factor is the rumor of KAT..
Hypothetically, obviously, KAT would blow up under MDA — those PHX Amare sets![]()

I remember it coming down to Stotts and Kaleb Canales.Does anyone remember who all was mentioned and/or interviewed by the Blazers when we hired Stotts?
Can you get him to Shake and Roll Over too?Sit.
Different era for sure....
Back in the 60's guys and gals cruised The Speck on 50th & Powell, Yaw's, Broadway and they needed gas, oil checked, air, and windshield cleaned.
I worked a Toms Gulf right across from The Speck. Always had my Blue 50 Chevy deluxe park on the side.
And by the way, there are some creepy women these days pumping gas but I commend them for working...

Costco has non creepy Studs & Chicks pumping gas now! lol....I'll waitYeah, it's my impression that gas jockeys are a different, and older, set of people now than they were back in the day.
Then again, maybe everyone thought I was creepy back when I was pumping gas on the graveyard shift - but at least I was blissfully unaware of it at the time.
