Terry Stotts was lucky in that he was free of criticism because he was white.

It's nonsense when people make everything about race.

Nobody holds back criticism for a coach because of their race. Terry Stotts was a very competent coach for many years. His teams were never talented enough to be favorites, and were perceived to be underachievers. Terry Stotts did well enough to not be fired. He might have been fired in 2019, if the team had lost in the first round. Making the conference finals bought him a couple more years. Stotts was competent, but not great. He rarely made serious gaffs and he worked well with Olshey and kept hopes up that the team would compete in the west.

Nate McMillan lasted 7 years with a sub 500 record and never made it out of the first round of the playoffs. If race was an issue, he would have been fired after missing the playoffs the first 3 years he coached the Blazers.

I think Chauncy Billups will make a great hire. He had the kind of playing career that translates well to coaching. He was strong mentally and a solid defensive player. He was disciplined, and a winner. I think he would relate to the players well. It's not all about X's and O's. It's about motivation, commanding the respect of the players and getting them to run through a wall for you.

I remember going to YAWS in our neighborhood when I was REAL young!

Portland isn't going to have cap-space this summer. It very likely won't even have the full-MLE. All it will have is the tax-MLE. That's less than 6M dollars. Blazers won't have a pick of all-star level free agents for that kind of money. They won't have a pick of starting level players. The best they can hope for is some role-player that will slot into the lower end of the rotation. They won't be losing some gem of a player because the new head coach has a vagina

You're right about not picking up an all-star free agent at this point in time. They could end up with some money if they trade CJ and we don't know what will happen with Norman Powell, RoCo, Nurk, etc. The coach can have an impact on any pick up, not just the all-stars. The Blazers really need a veteran back up point guard - especially if they trade CJ. That pickup could be a critical piece in the success of the team. The Blazers could very well have beaten the Nuggets in the first round if the Nuggets hadn't picked up Austin Rivers. Rivers killed us, and the Nuggets paid him $270k. The Nets got Blake Griffin for $1.2M. There could be a prominent veteran releases for salary cap reasons who may want to play with Dame. You never know...

Hiring Hammon may or may not reduce the pool of players the Blazers have to choose from. Hiring Chauncy Billups will definitely not discourage anyone. I'm just using Chauncy as an example...

it’s a sport played by like 95% black players. Of course race isn’t an issue. I was being sarcastic

So if I remember correctly, the first round of interviews were virtual, and only a select few would do in-person stuff.

Wonder when Dame gets involved

what do you mean? Dame isn’t gonna be interviewing candidates lol.

Maybe you could ask me why instead of making assumptions.

here's a test....identify all three cars passing by on the right there

I think the station wagon is a rambler
The W looks like a 55 Chevy but w/straight back molding
Left to right Chevy, Ford & Plymouth? I know Rambler had a SW but more rounded tail lights, I think.

For the record I did not support Michele Bachmann for president. She is female. I do not support Caitlin Jenner for governor. I sure as fuck don't support Marjorie Taylor Greene.

I do think gender bias and racism are ruinous.

I like Staley or MDA.

He’d unleash nuclear Dame. And the biggest factor is the rumor of KAT..

Hypothetically, obviously, KAT would blow up under MDA — those PHX Amare sets

When guys are bored, they make small talk about the weather, cars, and sports. We need to find a sports board. But I wanna tellya...

The reason for the delay in hiring a coach must be that the new hiree is unavailable until his team is out of the playoffs. So you can narrow it down. The Spurs are out of the playoffs.

...I sure hope it's not a rookie head coach...

Score 140 a game and lose in the playoffs. Let’s find a defensive minded coach

Does anyone remember who all was mentioned and/or interviewed by the Blazers when we hired Stotts?

Different era for sure....
Back in the 60's guys and gals cruised The Speck on 50th & Powell, Yaw's, Broadway and they needed gas, oil checked, air, and windshield cleaned.
I worked a Toms Gulf right across from The Speck. Always had my Blue 50 Chevy deluxe park on the side.

And by the way, there are some creepy women these days pumping gas but I commend them for working...

Yeah, it's my impression that gas jockeys are a different, and older, set of people now than they were back in the day.

Then again, maybe everyone thought I was creepy back when I was pumping gas on the graveyard shift - but at least I was blissfully unaware of it at the time.
