4 of the top 10 payrolls this season missed out on the playoffs, including the Mets who were #2 just behind the Dodgers. Yea it helps to have money but it's far from a guarantee that a team will win. Of teams that made playoffs this year you have Dodgers, Phillies, Yankees, Cubs, Padres and Toronto all in the top 7 of payrolls but also Boston (11), Seattle (12), Detroit (14), Milwaukee (17 and best record in MLB), Cincy (19) and Cleveland (26).

I said 70% so I was close.

Money doesnt guarantee shit in baseball since it's an actual team game.

But 6 of the top 10 did make the playoffs? Hmmm? And 2 of them are the odds on favorites to win it all.
I can agree with @Strenuus that money does not guarantee success but we all know it helps. The numbers are obvious.

Hey, I said 70% make it and I overshot. They suck. I overestimated.

You have not been wrong in what your point has been all along. A bunch of really good teams have success without spending the most money. baseball is a team sport and takes a bunch more than just athletic ability to win. However historically teams that have spent money win more and put themselves in positions to win in the playoffs/pennant races.

I was trying to help your point ... money helps but it's far from a guarantee and despite MLB not having a salary cap, it has historically seen much more parity than both the NFL and NBA when it comes to reaching the playoffs and having success in the playoffs.

Yes, you did, you further illustrated it!

Except 16 of the bottom 20 teams didn’t make the post season and none of the bottom 10 did. If we are being honest all 4 of the top 4 teams won 85 games or more this season. So really we all know money does indeed help.

You guys are thinking about this from a very specific point of view (or maybe different POV completely). There's a lot that can go into success on the field. Being ready and willing to spend on free agents is huge, but having a good pipeline of talent is just as important. Here's a fun little chart that looks at a couple other aspects. Honestly, there's a fair amount of luck that goes into it too.

Really nice way to look at it. The trades part speaks volumes about fit and fundamental needs.

So par for the course for pretty much every team in a 162 game season? We have had bad hitting stretches, but we had 20 games where we were on fire. 3 games not being able to is standard. Ill take that beautiful 20 game sample size all day.
I’ll take a 20 game MLB season as well!

Of course it helps, it helps to spend $ in any league!

Hold on….. this “SPORT” has playoff games on a weekday DURING the DAY!? What kinda shit is that?

Not locally for the Mariners. FYI.
The Mariners averaged about 59,000 household impressions per game this season on Root Sports. They averaged about 65,000 last season.
These are their local Seattle market #'s.

The MLB national TV games may have been up. But several teams had viewership declines on the local level.
Mariners, Braves, Rays, Padres, Twins, Gaurdians, A's, Phillies, White Sox, Yankees, Pirates, Astros, Orioles, and Nationals.

Don’t tell @bigbailes how viewership numbers ACTUALLY work. Shhh

So Boston holds on
Now the Dodgers will dispatch the Reds.
Should have made a 4 bet parlay.
Would have made a bunch today.

Oh please do tell me ... I mean it's not like I work in television! I do know that +'s next to the numbers are good, -'s are bad. Again your premise is that the game is on it's deathbed, despite the mountain of evidence saying otherwise.

I won’t sink to your level, I’ll let my guy @BoBoBREWSKI set you straight.
