We talk a lot about Sharpe's future and his potential for superstardom.

We have seen Dame's effect on Simons, and the growth that Ant has displayed in the last 5 years.

How critical is it to Sharpe's development that he stay around Dame for another 2-3 years at the minimum?

I do not always agree with ya NateB and I know vice versa but this is a point I have yet to see brought up and I think it's a great one and one that should be talked about IF we want to see Sharpe mature into someone even 75% as good as Dame. -- Kudo's to ya Nate and Go Blazers

Thanks man. I was watching a Sharpe compilation by Maxamillion and I was thinking.... Shaedon really hasn't gotten to play much with Dame, but he has at least had the opportunity to see how Dame approaches the game. I think Simons has a ceiling, but Sharpe's future is so bright. It's hard to imagine a ceiling on him. If Dame can turn Simons into a very good scorer, I can only imagine what his impact could be on Shaedon.

I don't think a player need 2-5 years to learn from a HOF player as for how to be a pro. If they are going to be a HOF level player themself, they start on day one. It becomes a routine. But if Dame were traded in July (no, i'm not saying I want Dame traded), Sharpe would be fine with his program. Yes, he would need a strong vet presence on the team to replace Dame's knowledge of the league, but work ethic, diet, etc are in full swing.

Just as important is seeing how Dame handles himself and his success. Even more importantly how loyal he is to Portland.

Seems to have helped Ant on the offensive end. Seems to have sadly replicated on the defensive side as well.

Small sample size with bench players but…..

At the end of the season when Sharpe was unquestionably #1, he raised his game and while we weren’t good, I found the energy and movement but more enjoyable to watch.

Makes me wonder if Sharpe could improve quicker as the unquestioned alpha.

Looking at how Simons saw how Dame trained and emulated his game and work ethic was huge. Even stealing his trainer to get extra reps in
Never seen a young 20ppg scorer with good efficiency get less respect from a fanbase than Simon's with today's Blazer fans.

It's like he's a lightning rod for all the CJ and Olshey haters that need a new place for their pitchforks.

could it be because Blazer fans went thru this same shit with CJ for several years, with people constantly propping CJ up, wrongly, and that some of us actually value defense in the starting SG?

It's not if Ant is a good player or not. He is, like CJ. It's that neither fit with Dame as the PG.

I live outside of Portland so I could be wrong on this, but were there not reports on Sharpe being late for practices and not listening at times as well this year? I swore I read that somewhere.

I don’t remember seeing that. I think Keon was late a few times.

The best thing Shady could learn from Dame is how to be a vocal leader. The problem is, I don't think it's in his personality. That will be a huge, difficult role to fill when Dame leaves someday.

Well I am glad I was wrong on it. I just remember an article or message saying how the culture was different with the young guys and that Sharpe was late and not giving full attention (glad o hear it wasn't him) and that some young guy(s) were bringing outsiders around to the practice facility which never happened in the past. I like Sharpe a lot and glad he is all in. Thanks.

Oh dude, that's not uncommon at all. I can't speak for the Dame era, but when I was at the practice facility back between 2003-2006, there were always a few people at the PF who were friends/family of one of the players.

Travis Outlaw's brother.

Ruben Patterson's best bud.

Outsiders are not uncommon in the NBA.

No the mention was more like...how can I describe it...more like Zach Randolph's entourage types. The mention was how this would never had happened in the Olshey days as if there was at least one good thing about Olshey days.

Ruben's friend was 100% like those Randolph entourage types. But to be clear, I was around Zach Randolph and I don't remember him ever bringing anyone to the practice facility. There really wasn't a ton of outsiders at the PF, but it also wasn't uncommon, if that makes sense.

But Neil really did change things. Maybe not for the better.

No I poorly wrote the last post. This was about this past season and whomever wrote the blurb I semi remember said they were young thug like people brought in my this young player. I compared them to Zach's old crew as a visual reference. It might have been from twitter, and since nobody else seems to remember it, it was probably all b.s.

Thanks for hanging in there on me. Old memory of mind gets in the way sometimes.

I don't see how it's much of an impact. Dame is a great guy, but it's not like he's got a massive track record of team success... so it's hard for me to say that even if Sharpe picks up stuff from Dame (in spite of being much older and playing a different position) I'm not convinced it will automatically be a fantastic thing.

I'm not saying that to be mean... I just don't know.

Dame's leadership and affect on guys like Ant and Sharpe is underrated. Shae has the potential to be very very good. Having Dame mentor him is invaluable. Imagine Sharpe with Ja as his role model
I think Dame can teach him how to be a pro and work like a pro. I think that people that think that Dame's skill set or lack of a defensive skill set will wear off on a guy who has a completely different tool box than him, is dumb. Shae doesn't need to do what Dame does in workouts he just needs to learn about working out with intention and expanding your game. Also he can learn how to take care of his body and carry himself like a professional on and off the court.

That being said, there are other good professionals out there, Chauncey was a great professional that really maximized his potential. So if Dame were to leave I don't think it would significantly hurt Shaedon's chances at becoming an All NBA level shooting guard.

I know that we are at a crossroads and trying to make it work with Scoot and Dame is tough… I would really love to see Dame mentor Scoot and Shae.
