How we as a fanbase can be more Seattle inclusive.

I never stated it was any kind of last straw. Just massive disappointment in the organization

Would you be similarly disappointed if they fired Stotts and replaced him with Pop? Stotts is well liked by the fan base and has produced better than expected results based on the talent he's been given, but Pops is widely considered the best in the business.

I don't understand why some folks are so afraid of Seattle fans. They're bandwagon at best and will disappear the first time the Blazers hit a slump. Attend a Mariners game when the Giants are in Seattle for inter league play. The stadium is a sea of orange and black. If Seattle can't support an MLB team, why would they support an NBA team? They refused to get behind a new arena in order to keep the Sonics. They deserve what they got. I think the worry warts need to chill........

Stotts isn't ingrained in the community as much as the Mikes. He's been awesome but its not close.

how about this analogy:

Would you be upset if they traded Lillard for Durant.

Durant is better than Lillard.
Lillard is more beloved in Portland.
Durant appeals to the Seattle market.

If the Blazers get to championship level good, they will all go to Portland during the finals like they've been here the whole time and price real fans out.

The Space Trail Needles is a good name for a sports team. Is this inclusive enough?

Maybe rename the team the Needle Blazers and sign the 'Sheed, Damon and ZBo as team ambassadors.
Trail Needles? Space Blazers?

As to the OP original question:

stop shaving
get five tattoos
stop bathing
quit my job and get on government support
stop wearing socks

what am I missing?

Yes, but not for the reasons you state. Lillard is younger, a better leader and and locked up long term. He also plays a position of greater importance in today's NBA. In other words, I would object for basketball reasons, not sentimental ones. Of course, I'd love to add Durant to Lillard, but I don't want to add Durant in place of Lillard (unless we also manage to somehow get another top 10 PG in the deal - and NOT that choker Westbrook).

I firmly believe having Lillard improves the quality of the product and my enjoyment of the games. Just like I believe Calabro will also improve the quality of the product and my enjoyment of the games. 100% consistency on this. I'm a fan and want the best product I can get.

Its a two year age difference. But Durant is "better" and has broader appeal.

And most blazer fans believed that Mikes improved the quality of the games very greatly. They were comforting.

You asked my opinion and ignored what I said. I said, to me Lillard is "better". He's a better leader and plays a more important position. I don't give a fuck about broader appeal. I want my team to be the best they can be.

And most blazer fans believed that Mikes improved the quality of the games very greatly. They were comforting.

And now you speak for most Blazer fans? I don't think many people disliked Mike and Mike, but go back and read the It's Calabro!!!!! thread and see just how stoked the majority of Blazers fans are about landing the best play-by-play announcer in business. I know you like Mike and Mike, but if Mike Barrett is so good, why hasn't he called any NBA of Conference finals? This is Calabro's 3rd finals and he's called the Conference Finals for the last 10 years. He's also does the voice work on many leading NBA video games. How many video games has Barrett voiced? How many national broadcaster awards has Barrett won? Calabro is in demand for these things because he is widely recognized as the best in the business. Barrett is not. If you think Barrett is in the same league as Calabro, you're letting your emotions get in the way of your objectivity. Again, I'm not hating on Barrett, he doesn't suck, but his name is never mentioned in discussions about the best play-by-play guy in the game.

And to me, it doesn't get better than Mike and Mike.

Calabro's called the conference finals because he's without a team contract. The mikes are homeristic and Calabro has no stake in favoring a team so he's more objective.

If you asked Blazers fans if they'd rather have the Mikes or Calabro, the Mikes will win in a landslide.

But I'm sure Calabro will have a bunch of Seattle-centric references none of us will understand.

Agreed.....it's not hate on Barrett but don't you want to be the best you can be in every aspect? I get he was 'ours' but I haven't seen a reaction to this anywhere outside of Portland that doesn't think this is a MAJOR get.

I don't see this as Portland being Seattle but more Calabro finally being resigned to the fact Seattle isn't getting another team any time soon after the recent vote. He is a NW guy and is a witch at his craft. Lucky to have him. Again, I'm somewhat confused that a city that is mostly Seahawk fans in football and Mariner fans in baseball is so riled by the thought of someone who did Seattle games 8 years ago.

So Durant for Lillard?

I get that but at the same time, most Blazer fans were against the idea of trading Matthews for Klay Thompson. We are an extremely provincial group that loves our players almost to the point of....well FANatics. We rave about Dame and CJ offensively and choose to ignore for the most part that that neither of them can play defense. People rave about Plumlee when he wouldn't start for most teams in the NBA.

Nothing wrong with loving family but it's also a business and we aren't the ones paying the bills. You try to get as good as you can....at each level.

You are in the minority, and it's not close.

Wrong. He called both Conference Finals and NBA Finals, before Seattle moved to OKC and he was still the voice of the Sonics. He's flat out better and more experienced than Barrett.

If you asked Blazers fans if they'd rather have the Mikes or Calabro, the Mikes will win in a landslide.

Again, since when do you speak for all Blazer fans? Go ahead. Start a poll.

But I'm sure Calabro will have a bunch of Seattle-centric references none of us will understand.

Just like he does when calling national games for ESPN???? I'm sure obscure colloquial references aren't going to land anyone a job calling Finals games for a national network.

I already ran a poll, here are the results:

That's actually not a poll. It's a Facebook post with 935 likes and 406 comments, both for and against the hire.

Go head, post a poll in the forum and make the results public so we can both see that there is no sock puppet voting going on.

The results of a nationwide search expected to last until next month. New direction? Portland Trail Blazers lost part of their character and uniqueness. Really sad. Still angry about Mike and Mike, had too many laughs as they brought levity to the game on the court. We don't need a ton of play by play on TV, we can see the game, but the character and humor brought by the announcers was something special. Bad move Blazers!

Booooooooooooooooooo. Way to show how little you understand Portland folk. We HATE getting hand-me-downs from Seattle. This is the worst... oust locals beloved announcers for Seattle's old announcer in an attempt to bring in fans from Washington... way yo take care of your current fans... Booooooooooooooooooo

Derek Nelson Anytime our games would be broadcasted on local tv and a national channel I would always choose to watch the national channel just so I didn't have to hear Mike Rice talk. About time he got canned.

So the plan was to fire our guys to bring in the voice of our I5 rivals?? Are you that out of touch? And do you think for a second that he won't bolt as soon as Seattle gets a team? No offense to Calabro, who is a great play by play announcer, but he's the Sonics, not Rip City.. Next you're gonna tell me Mike Parker is gonna start calling Duck games..

I have often talked to people about the Blazers having the best announcers. I don't understand the move. I love listening to Mike and Mike and Antonio too. I think this is awful move.

While I liked MB a lot and still think he could have been treated better with this news, Calabro is an excellent announcer. I know some people are bothered by the whole "he's a Seattle!" guy thing, but honestly, he's been a national guy for the past couple of years. He could have gone to OKC when the Sonics left, but he stayed behind, which I thought was a classy move. I'm sure the travel schedule of national broadcasts was grueling and this will help lessen that a bit. MB I know will bounce back and get a new gig somewhere quickly. Also, who knows how long Calabro will stay. If/when Seattle gets a new team, he might leave, but who knows at this point. Still think the Blazers could have handled this better, but at least they got someone relatively strong.

Welcome to Portland Kevin Calabro but you have some big shoes to fill. And Chris McGowan your still a bum and you need to get the boot. #firechrismcgowan

As much as I had a soft spot for Barrett, Calabro is one of the best in the business, Blazers are lucky they could get him. This is a huge upgrade.

Thanks. This is one way to put it to bed. Anyone can cherry pick comments from Facebook to make their case. It's like the the highlight reel that makes Joel Przybilla look like an offensive stud.

The dismissal of Mike and Mike, and the hiring of Calabro and whoever, are two separate things. Just want to point out that it's possible to be disappointed or even mad about the dismissal, and at the same time be happy with the new hire (so far).
