Ask after Holliday is traded but right now he did solid but he put himself in this hole when he crapped on Dame instead of being up front with him. I will say it again -- I hate that Dame is gone but all Joe had to do was shoot straight with Dame and tell him that they were not going to give up Scoot ( 3rd ) to get him help then only issue might be with the choice to move on from Dame. I was ok with idea of moving on from Dame the more I thought about it cause I was not sure there was a route where Dame gets a ring with the Blazers cause unless Giannis or Jokic or maybe Joel became available none of the options on the table screamed championship contender at best 3rd to 4 th seed or so.
There was no realistic route for Portland to have been managed since Joe took over that would have resulted in them being a contender. They never had the capspace or assets to attain any of the guys you listed. The only thing happening that might have pushed them into that status w/Dame is winning the last lotto, but even that would have taken a few seasons. Its not Joe's fault he inherited a shit sandwich of a roster

Thank you.

Everybody knew we were taking a hit for a Lillard trade but Joe addressed a position of need and did Dame a sold hooking him up with Giannis. Scoot is going to love Ayton. Already word is Boston, Philly, Nets, Clippers are interested in Jrue Holiday

Other than the draft, I think he's been bad. I don't like that we extended Dame. I didn't like Nurk's contract. I didn't especially like the Grant trade and I hate his new contract. I think paying Thybulle was stupid. I haven't seen any free agent additions this off-season that make any difference.

The trade today? TBD, but I am not a fan of Ayton at his salary, and I worry that his game is not one that works well in today's NBA and I wonder if he's a slacker/head case. Holiday is potentially going to bring us more value, but I don't find a single draft pick in six years and draft swaps very compelling a return at present.

The draft, especially where we picked, is the most important part of his job given where we are as a franchise so I'm overall not too bummed about things, but I still fear we're going to be mediocre with young players and overpaid veterans rather than making a real commitment to a rebuild. I guess we'll wait and see.

Trading Grant will be the next step on committing to a full rebuild. It was either overpay Grant and retain that asset, or lose him for nothing.

At the end of the day, we converted old assets that weren't going anywhere (Dame/CJ), into a bunch of younger pieces. At least there's more flexibility and runway now to make future moves. And this is a Doom'er perspective. At best, guys like Ayton have a rebirth and exceed expectations.

Cj was way better than Ant. He won with Dame. Ant couldn’t even help impact winning for Dame whose even better than when Cj had him..

Still think he did Dame completely wrong, but with the Dame part of this saga over and done with, I'm moving on because rehashing it is pointless.

The Ayton part was good. First trade where you can argue he won value wise other than the JG trade that Dame made happen. Ayton trade gets a thumbs up despite my reservations.

As far as the Dame part of this trade, it hinges on the Jrue trade. Blazers should've gotten Beauchamp back, but whatever. Blazers need at least two first round picks for Jrue for it to be acceptable at all. Three for it to be better than an offer of Herro, two 1sts and swaps (which a lot of people said was horrible). Anything more than three firsts and it's pretty damn good.

I like that he's going the unprotected picks direction instead of OG.

Based on what?
because if we only got, say, one first for Jrue and salary filler, it'd be two firsts and two swaps for Dame. Even Miami's "awful" package that included Herro and two 1sts is better than that, because Herro probably could've been flipped for another 1st.

I don't see more runway with contracts like Grant's on the team. It's worse than anything that was on the Blazers' roster when Cronin took over and he's not younger than most (all?) of the guys Cronin traded away. Ayton is younger, for sure, but he makes more money and just got sent to us in a salary dump, essentially.

If we get assets of consequence for Grant: great. I don't know what team is going to be willing to give us anything and I find it just as likely we'll have to give up something to get out from under his contract. Guess we'll see, but right now I see it as a negative and the point of this thread was to ask peoples' opinions about how Cronin has done.

how the heck are the Blazers gonna squeeze Jrue Holiday into the rotation? I guess Blazer fans just need more patience until Cronin trades Holiday.

I don't know, but I'm happy to wait for a better return than can be obtained now.

PG Holiday
PG Scoot
PG/SG Simons
------ non of them over 6'4"
Shaedon SG
Thybulle SG/SF
-- still kinda shrimpy
J.Grant SF with PF offense
....
Ayton IS GOING TO GET SMOKED in the paint
Blazers might give up 130 a night

Jrue was an All-Star star last year. Blazers have to trade him at deadline to tank the living hell outta the season.

This starting lineup (below) gave up 110 points/game on average in the first 20 games of 2021.
