OT Hurricane Florence

That's shitty. I'd probably find a nice tall parking garage.

It actually wasn't too bad except for the fact we had no power. At the time we had already bought another house but the one we were in was right behind Montavilla Park and there were some Gypsy's that lived on the other side of 82nd and I was pissed cause you could see they had lights which turned out to be gas lamps.

Amend the constitution to make sly illegal.

Sly is a dog.
Marazul has been upset in the past over libtards getting the dog eating festival cancelled in a certain country.
We now know why he was upset.
He wants to eat Sly.

Let talk about the most likely scenario where the hurricane makes landfall in southern North Carolina:

Williamsburg looks pretty protected from storm surge. She's most likely going to be on the north side of the storm so the winds will blow from East to West, and that town seems to be a mile or so from the northeastern coastline which is most likely to experience the storm surge.

Rainfall is a different story. This storm is going to stall, and she'll be in the right front quadrant, which is the usually the strongest and rainiest in any scenario. In this scenario, it'll likely be enforced by the fact that the part of the storm she'll be in will be drawing moisture from off the shore. With all the waterways in that area, flooding could be catastrophic. If she doesn't live on higher ground and she plans on staying, she needs to find a shelter, or put a plan in place in case her house floods out and she needs to get to higher ground. This quadrant is also known to produce the most tornados in its outer bands, and with it stalling for days, she needs to know what to do if a tornado threatens her house. Interior room with no windows that's furthest away from any windows is the best scenario.

If she has big trees, especially on the east side of her house, then that could be a major risk. Also, secure any lose lawn equipment (chairs, tables, etc.) and she should make sure her neighbors do the same. In the case of a tornado or strong wing gusts, you don't want these things turning into projectiles.

However, it is possible the hurricane could move north of the projected path and make landfall in her area.

If the ridge to the north erodes somewhat on the left side, that could lead to a storm that moves up or skirts the coastline. The bad thing about this scenario is that it would be more likely for the hurricane to park itself off the North Carolina/Virginia coast and stall for potentially days while maintaining strength. In this scenario, if it's close enough to the coast she could be experiences tropical-storm/hurricane force winds for who knows how long. It would also increase the flooding potential to Harvey-esqe levels. This is a doomsday scenario and isn't likely, but it's possible.

Copy/Paste sent to mom. Thanks bones

We had power in less than half an hour. Our house was near St. Vincent and Good Samaritan hospitals and several medical clinics. Our house was sheltered from the wind although there was a large fir tree near our back yard. It would have fallen right on top of us had the wind been stronger since the tree was to our South by about 50 to 75 feet.

I was stuck in an apartment building half way between my high school and home. I thought it was funny that the lights were flickering in the shower where I went after cross country practice. Then, as I walked up hill by the MAC club, I thought it was also funny that I couldn't stay on the sidewalk 'cause the wind was blowing my into the street. When I got to the top where I turned on to West Over, a patrol officer told me to get off the street and that's when he took off. I ducked into the nearest apartment building and watched the storm through the plate glass on the front door.

After the storm, I couldn't walk a half a block without running into a fallen tree or power or telephone pole. The next day, you could hear chain saws all over the city.

Why was the wind blowing a burly brute such as I am? Well, you're not going to believe this but I was skinny as a matchstick. I wrestled at 96 lbs. my freshman year. Still a lightweight in my sophomore year. Today, I retain my boyish figure. I figure beer is the secret.

It's aspirational, not a promise.

Thank you for the qualification. It makes a whole lot more sense, which is saying something for you. Oh come on, don't cry. I'm sure you've been slammed before. Now me? I'm not used to being slammed so go easy. Also, I cry easily. I cry at chick flicks for Pete's sake.

Let's leave Pete out of this. He's not responsible for your issues.

Okay, sorry. Can you see my tears? I told you I was sensitive and you just steamrolled right over me. Why, it's gonna take this short case of cheap beer to repair the damage you've done to my ego. I hope you're happy.

By the way, how is Pete doing? Haven't seen him in years. Wait a minute, I don't even know a Pete. Why did you bring him into it?

He was born a little baby on the Appalachian Trail
At six months old he'd done three months in jail
He robbed a bank in his diapers and little bare baby feet
All he said was "Folks my name is Outlaw Pete"

I don't understand east coast people who have at least a day's notice that a hurricane is coming and they don't pack up the car and go for a 2 day visit/vacation to the next state over. :dunno:

YOU WANT A HURRICANE? YOU CAN'T HANDLE A HURRICANE!

What are you talking about

And yes, I too am scared that I actually figured out what the hell he is talking about.

Sly is being cute. But perhaps curious, maybe Bones is too.
Sorry guys but it is a bit complex. I need to show you and explain where we can blow the chart up a bit and examine the heat exchangers workings and the data on the flows that are involved.
Not political. Oceanography, Geography, CFA, history, perhaps geology, and Climatology

And a pinch of mustard, and the eye of a newt, and three newborn kittens! Now stand back, the chart is likely to blow up a bit!

MarAzul is willing to sacrifice the environment so liberals can enjoy their avocado toast.

You don't see liberals willing to make similar sacrifices for conservatives.

Then find a link. Overall global temperatures affect water temperature more than anything else. You cant even try to explain what your trying to say, which makes it seem like trollish bullshit, as normal.

Florence is expanding her windfield and her center of circulation as shes going through an eyewall replacement cycle (EWRC). Expect a massive 70-100 mile wide stadium-effect eye shortly (Think Katrina).

Does a reduction is fresh water run off from the continents rivers affect these currents?
Lol, once again, asking a question who's goal isn't to get an answer.
So less current flow in the major ocean currents due to less continental run off would result in warmer ocean currents although less total volume in the stream. The warmer waters would produce stronger cyclones. But at the same time less flow will result in less heat transfer from the tropics to the upper latitudes.
Let's try to answer this anyway.

Continental runoff has a minimal affect on the currents off the coast of North Carolina, even if we let it all run back to the ocean. Even then, those currents run along the coastline. You're talking about the formation of these hurricanes hundreds/thousands of miles off the coast where continental runoff doesn't reach.

The gulf stream is a hot current that runs along the east coast. You might be able to delete this current by tenths of a degree, but even a degree aling the coastline isnt going to affect a hurricane that's already strong.

If we were having a sizeable effect in oceanic volume, then we'd have an answer for the rising sea level. We don't. That's not a thing. Either global warming exists and is causing ice to melt or were not taking away waters from our oceans because the sea level is rising. Thats two opinions that contradict.
