...I realize that they'll have a lot of holes to fill, but $135 Mil would go a long way towards reloading for next year and beyond IF they spend the money wisely for a change. A mix of youngsters and FAs and trade acquisitions should be doable.

Doubt after all the work they did baseball will let A-roid worm out of a suspension with the disabled nonsense. I bet they already informed him of suspension and he is in the process of appealing, accepting or trying to plea bargain whateve it is. Without a doubt he is getting the largest of the suspensions.

I agree. Call me greedy but I want both, the suspension & the money coming off the books.

Problem, 59, is the yankees do not have the people in place to make wise decisions. The free agent market is alos not very good next year. "rebuilding" this team by making the same stupid mistakes in free agency is not what i hope this comes to. The yankees should not now be adding Soriano. They should be trading, Hughes, Joba, even Kuroda and CC if at all possible to get as many prospects, even mid level gus back as possible. The only way to fix this mess is to have a complete turnaround in the player development area. No one is coming to the yankees on a discount. They need to stop dishing out contracts 2 years longer, for tons of cash, with NTC just to land their guy. They HAVE to start developing REAL players that can contribute in a big way going forward. Then you suppliment with FA. The yankees seem to lack what it takes to execute that plan properly, and have for quite a while now.

By wisely Rusty are you referring to the ridiculous contract they gave to A-Rod or the revamping of it. Or perhaps by wisely you mean the revamping of CCs contract. Or maybe it was the Texeira contract. Or better yet the 12M they threw away on Youkilis. No my friend they have NOT spent wisely.

They have certainly spent unwisely far more. Which is fine at times if its here and there to get a player. But not like the yankees have in recent history. Here is the thing, when the yanks were chruning player after player out of the farm in the 90s they didnt need to over spend. When that stopped they were forced to make these terrible deals to stay on top. They are paying for that now. Its why its imperative that this team rebuilds in some way. We can disagree on how, or to what degree, but things HAVE to change, particularly in drafting and player development. They seem to be hesitant in the foreign markets as well after being burned a few times. I think they need to restablish there as well. Better scouting? I don't know, but good players are being passed up.
