I get what your saying but I’ve lived and worked in Milwaukee where unions are still strong and workers hang the American Flag profligate from factory rafters. Many are dens that still believe in capitalism and love Harley Davison, Miller, Sports, immigartion control, Hunting and American pride through Manufacturing. if Bernie goes to Milwaukee with a far left socialist message it would be like someone from India going there promoting there motorcycle over Harley. If Bernie was smart he’d start riding oneWhat is a "traditional" Democratic platform? Democrats have been pushing for a form of universal health care since at least FDR's day. Even the great triangulator and centrist Bill Clinton tried (and failed) to get health care reform. Many of the things Bernie Sanders is advocating are things that have been Democratic priorities for decades. Carville is a Clinton Democrat and Clinton captured a moment when Democrats were demoralized by three consecutive terms of Republican Presidents--two by Ronald Reagan and one by George HW Bush. Clinton and his advisors believed that the only way to win was to move to the center and win over the independents. The Republicans have proven pretty clearly that you don't need to move to the center to win--they've been tacking more and more to the right over the years. You don't win by trying to be all things to all people, you win by getting more of your voters to the polls. Republicans have had a big edge in that, in general, because older people are more reliable voters than younger people and Republicans are much more popular among older demographics, while Democrats are much more popular among younger demographics.
"Socialism" polls badly, but the actual things that Sanders wants poll well. A battle between Trump and Sanders would be a battle of messaging. Sanders actually does well among "blue collar" voters, because the things he advocates for are things that help blue collar workers a lot.
I'm not even some big Sanders believer. I'm currently not sure which Democratic candidate I want to win the nomination (other than not-Bloomberg). I just don't buy the narrative that Sanders is a lost cause in a general election because of a socialist scare. Or that Sanders represents an agenda so dangerous and radical that the Democratic party is scared of him. The Democratic party establishment (like all establishments) prefer long-time party warriors who have seniority and a proven record of loyalty to the establishment. I don't think they hate him, they just prefer people like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris or Corey Booker. Just as they preferred Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama until it was clear that Obama was a superstar politician.

Lower-than-expected turnout in Iowa raises questions of voter enthusiasm for Democratic presidential field
Curious, do you think as an Iowan do you think impeachment had anything to do with the turnout?Just taking a guess at a possible reason why there was low voter turnout in Iowa (I'm an Iowan). All the candidates have been in and out of Iowa for the last 6 months. We have been bombarded with this stuff like crazy (it's always this way, but even more this time around), way more than any other place because of the emphasis placed on Iowa. An uncountable amount of texts, calls, commercials etc. from every campaign. It is so sickening. Everyone just gets tired of it long before the Caucus date. Even my 7 year old daughter started screaming "I'm sick of Tom Steyer" everytime a commercial came on between her youtube videos or we drove by one of his billboards.
I'm a registered Independent, so I got blasted daily. I could have changed my party to Democrat at the Caucus door to participate, but I decided against. Figured I should let true Democrats be able to choose their candidate.
All just a guess, but I think so many people just wanted it to be over months ago, so many people were probably pretty apathetic by the time the actual Caucus date came.
I don't think so, but maybe for some.Curious, do you think as an Iowan do you think impeachment had anything to do with the turnout?
I agree with comments that many people are tired of the fight.I don't think so, but maybe for some.
I still eat seafood on Fridays. Now. When you go to ball games or large parking lots you still see a larger Percentage of American made cars and trucks as compared to the west coast.
They still allow smoking in public places in Milwaukee. Im not against some Bernies ideas he just needs to Move a bit to the middle on some issues and he won’t. Is he even a Democrat?

Judicial Watch stepped up this week to call attention to the issue of dirty voting rolls in Iowa.
A Judicial Watch study found that eight Iowa counties have more voter registrations than their eligible voting-age population. According to their analysis of data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) in 2019 and U.S. Census Bureau’s five-year American Community Survey (also released in 2019), eight Iowa counties are on the list of 378 counties nationwide that have more voter registrations than citizens living there who are old enough to vote, i.e., counties where registration rates exceed 100%. These 378 counties combined had about 2.5 million registrations over the 100%-registered mark. In Iowa, there are at least 18,658 “extra names” on the voting rolls in the eight counties at issue.
