Is Collins demoted?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - Collins will never reach his potential unless we either have a coaching change or bring in a vet big to mentor him.

He's got The Hammer to show him the ropes.

the players playing the best get the minutes.

i just have zero idea how Stotts decides who is playing the best.

I have zero issue with Collins losing or gaining minutes as long as the movements are earned or lost by merit or lack there of.

I'm pretty fuckin tired of project big men who take 5-6 years to produce anything.... if at all.

Bulls-eye! Even though Leonard is no longer useless, the end result does not justify the time and money invested in him. If Zach and Skal continue to follow the same trajectory the smart thing is to cut our losses and move on. Same for Simon and Trent.

Sometimes, a GM just has to be a heartless SOB and put the team ahead of the individual player.

Sure seems like he is slipping in the rotation. I know it's a small sample size, but the team has been more effective with one big on the court and a bunch of wings cutting and shooting. With Layman and Hood playing well, and Harkless and Aminu with good games at times, this appears to be the first opportunity to push Collins back in the rotation.

Biebs is playing within himself and doing some good things. Collins just doesn't seem to be providing a consistent defensive presence and isn't hitting his shot well either. The team seems to be playing better with Nurkic/Biebs at the 5 then any combination of Aminu, Harkless, Layman, Hood, at the forwards.

I still think Collins could be a very solid player, but maybe the reality that he needs another year to bulk up and work on his moves and shot.

I cant bold a portion on my phone for some reason, but your last sentence sums it up.
Let’s not forget he is barely 21? He came out hot because he is an intense, hard working kid. But the game is fast. He needs more time to adjust. Look at Nurk even. He is only now really coming into his own and becoming more consistent, mostly because he has slowed down, because the game has slowed down for him.

I still have alot of confidence in collins, if anything, because he seems to have close to Dame-level determination and if he is falling short, i have no doubts he will do everything he can to improve as much as possible every off season.
As long as he maintains that killer mindset and holds himself to that high standard, the game will come to him and he will become a solid Contributor at minimum.
He is no Swannigan.

As long as I see improvement from him I am find. He need just stay aggressive on defense end even if his offense spotty at times. There a lot players in this league are in it just because they can play defense and anything they do in offense is plus.

Zach had a good start but has fallen off since then. I expect that 'good start' to last further into the season next year.

The fouling issue is one that continues to plague him since his one year at Gonzaga. I imagined it would improve but it has actually become just a bit worse. He'll hopefully grow out of some of the 'rookie' calls he continues to get but it's the abject 'dumb' fouls he commits at times that can be frustrating.

He's still only 21. I don't expect him to be setting the world on fire yet but would like to see at least some progress. He seems to be regressing instead.

More Layman & Hood and less Aminu & Harkless
It's kind of funny because Layman and Hood are our can't play defense group and Aminu and Harkless are our Can't play offense group. I think what we need less Aminu and Harkless at the same time for long stretches and more mixing and matching of the 4. At least until Hood and Layman get better on the defensive end.

Chandler Parsons is back with the Grizzlies. Didn't we try to sign this guy like 100 years ago?
In comparison to Meyers and ET and Moe, we dodged the bullet with Parsons.

I agree with that....but the way Aminu was giving WIDE OPEN shots up to Gay was not exactly lock-down defense.

I was thinking about this the other day. If we were stuck with Stotts and Neil for the next ten years the obvious thing to do would be to draft guard after guard and develop them and trade them for big men who already know how to play.

They can't develop one for the life of them.

The thing that frustrated me when he was drafted, and it still frustrates me today, is that this team didn't need a project big man.

Nurk is still really young. He's better than Zach. We needed solid players that could contribute right away, and instead we used our picks on guys that have not contributed at all. I wanted to move all three picks for a key contributor. Not move up to pick a project big and then use our other pick to get a guy that will be out of the NBA in a couple of years.

Nurkules playing pretty well under Stotts.

Thank God this isnt a democracy. You want to throw in the towel on a 21 year old, 7 footer that has range, attitude and Dame said could be an all-defense team someday? Sorry but that shows a severe lack of judgement for talent.

I'm starting to like the idea of Saric for Collins.
They are both weird fits for their teams.

Collins and his defense should compliment KAT very well and we need Saric as a talented starting PF.

I expected something of the sort at the deadline. After Mirotic went to the Bucks, I was sure Saric was heading to Portland. But I don't know shit obviously.

Zach is a very young player who has a lot of ability, but has become very mechanical on the floor. He's thinking instead of doing. It's like there's a mental block right now. Earlier he was just playing and doing what came natural, but now he's slow to process info and defenders are able to give him fits because of the delay. Layman always had the skillset, but it just never materialized. With patience by the franchise, Jake has finally been able to produce on a consistent basis. Maybe Zach needs a period of time to continue to practice hard, work on his game, and be able to watch things develop. Maybe he needs not to be in the permanent rotation at this time. It doesn't mean he's a bust. But like a LOT of "One and Done" college athletes, leaving early isn't always the right thing to do.

Dont worry just give Stotts 6 more years with Zach and he can mold him into the Meyers Leonard of this year!
