It's Calabro!!!!!

Fantastic hire. I knew it would be Calabro. Theres a reason this guy does ESPN games. Hes one of the best in the business..

And to the folks thinking this is one more step closer for a move to Seattle, you guys are hilarious. That is silly. Portland packs its stadium, is becoming a hotbed for expensive real estate, and is projected to grow tremendously. Last I read 250,000 people are expected to move here by 2035. Even when the fear was there, it was simply leverage to get the city to pay for a stadium and not a real threat.

Again this is a great hire for a great future coming up

I know a lot of people still love him, but he rubbed me the wrong way on his way out the door.
And his voice. Oye vey. And why should we assume he'd be any good at it? So many other better candidates out there.

You also claimed they were fired without cause. We don't know that either. Most such contracts contain language that allow either party to terminate the contract early under specific conditions. I suspect, but obviously don't know, that one of the conditions for early termination by the team was the waiving of any non-compete clause. Both Barrett and Rice have tweeted about potential future employment options. I don't think they'd be actively lobbying for work the day they were canned if they knew they couldn't work in their chosen field for a year.

If they were fired for cause they wouldn't get their money from their contract.

Full disclosure, I listen to ESPN LA's Thompson and Trudell show nearly every day.

Mychal is hilarious. He does color for Laker radio in addition to his own show and has longstanding Portland ties.

I would not be disappointed with a Thompson hire either.

He's a total Lakers homer. I can't look past that.

Have you read their contracts? If not, you don't know that. You have no idea if there were any kind of ratings incentives, or other conditions on their continued employment, early termination options, etc.

In the end, no matter why they were fired, giving them a soft landing and honoring the financial terms of their contract was best for all involved. Any nastiness of finger pointing by either side would have made things worse for all involved.

Oh get the fuck out of here with this bullshit. They were fired because the Blazers want to penetrate the Seattle market. Clear as fucking glass.
They weren't given a "soft landing". They were blindsided.

I enjoyed his radio show with Kermit Washington back in the day. My ex-wife had no clue who they were, but she actually enjoyed their banter.

Or, maybe the Blazers wanted to upgrade their on air talent. Goal accomplished.

No.

The Seattle market is the primary objective. If you can't see that, I really can't do nothing for you man.

On the Seattle thing I've always heard that the NFL has a rule that doesn't allow an owner to own more than one team in the same city, is that true?
I don't think so. Terry Pegula owns both the Bills and Sabres in Buffalo, and Tom Benson owns both the Saints and Pelicans in New Orleans.

Then please stop trying. I don't buy your chicken little paranoia for one second. We now have a better, more skilled, more compelling, more professional play-by-play guy calling our games on TV. For me, as a fan of the Portland Trail Blazers, that's a win. It will increase my enjoyment of following my favorite team.
