Just ask the Sonics when they left for OKCAnd the NOW is the only thing that matters.
Just ask the Sonics when they left for OKC
I used to be a bigger Sonics fan than the Blazers...

For all those freaking out about hiring a "Seattle guy", Calabro has ties to Oregon as well - as witnessed by his career defining role as 3rd Airport Reporter in Prefontaine.

When did I explode? I just think telling the people of Portland you are doing right by them by hiring people from Seattle is stupid. Calabro is good, but I don't think he is all that much better than who he is replacing
Heretic!

I worked with him a couple times last fall in Eugene. He was calling Pac12 football games....... not sure what else.If Calabro is so good, where has he been working?
Serious question...

For those who think Chris McGowan is out of touch with the local fan base, you may want to consider this:
It's mid-June. The Blazers were eliminated from the playoffs over a month ago, we don't have a pick in this draft and this forum is blowing up talking about the product he is selling.
Until yesterday, all we had to talk about were players in other markets kicking people in the balls and throwing their mouth guard at fans. Now, this place is abuzz with talk about the Blazers. The
Mike and Mike are OUT? Same with 'Tone. thread is 35 pages and still going strong. The It's Calabro!!!!! thread is at 11 pages and going like gangbusters. Who will the Blazers hire to replace the Mikes? is at 9 pages and we also have several other threads related to this news (Stealing Rip City,
How we as a fanbase can be more Seattle inclusive.,
My theory on the future of Blazer broadcasting).
I'd say he knows us pretty well.
And for those paranoid about the Blazers hiring a "Seattle guy", I guarantee there are a LOT more people discussing the Trail Blazers in Portland right now than there are in Seattle.
I don't necessarily like the guy, but you have to admit, he knows how to keep his product on the minds of his customers. With no draft pick, this place would normally be a ghost town, but instead the place is blowing up with talk about his product.

Then fuck youI did. I used to be a bigger Sonics fan than the Blazers...
Its still the now that is the most important. Those that live in the then or the future are lost in the now.

What good is it doing for the Blazers for us Blazer nerds to be talking about it? Especially when most of the talk is anger.
And, as I think you noted earlier in the thread, he has a terrible voice for broadcasting.I know a lot of people still love him, but he rubbed me the wrong way on his way out the door.
Then fuck you![]()

Define "most of the talk". The overall reaction to the Calabro hire is favorable. One or two high volume butt hurt posters doesn't change that.

He would've merited more discussion had he just released Dame, so I am not sure why this particular event is worth celebrating, when there are many other negative decisions he could've also made to elicit discussion.
Calabro and Bones called Blazer games last playoffs for TNT.
Even if that's true (which it's not, cause it's definitely more than one or two people upset that Mike and Mike were fired), you didn't answer the question. What good does it do? Are people in this forum going to watch more games because they hired this Cerebro guy? I don't think so.
His name is spelled Calabro.
Go back and read this thread. Many that were initially upset abut the firings have changed their tune now that they know who the replacement is.

This reminds me of when my ex said that she would could consider cheating on me if one of her celebrity crushes came along and gave her the opportunity. The people who support this are like her, and I have absolutely no respect for the human condition that treats worthy people like newspapers.
