It's Calabro!!!!!

And THIS is what I was mad at.

Do people understand what I was mad at?

I'm over it now, anyway. People just failed to realize what bothered me, and kept thinking it was one thing when it was THIS.

I'm done explaining myself, 1) because people never got it and 2) I'm over the Mcgowan thing.

At least he hired someone good.

Give yourself a reach-around.

Wait 60 seconds.

If you don't feel better after that, then I don't....

Don't worry. You WILL feel better.

Great stuff, but Calabro must have been the radio guy on that play. Way too much detail fora TV guy!

Certainly possible back then he did TV and they simulcasted it on the radio too.

EDIT: Or did radio and they used the radio broadcast for their tv audio. He's certainly less detailed doing the TNT playoffs on TV.

I follow a lot of Seattle people and sports media on twitter and the Calabro news is really starting to infiltrate them. I have already seen a few Sonic fans publicly convert to Blazers. Or, rather, convert from complete anti NBA to Blazers because of Calabro. I've also seen a lot of despair. As this feels like the final nail in the Sonics coffin. These people interest me. Once they get over the initial sting I wonder if they will slowly start to convert as well? There is a very real northern ripple effect to this hire and the Blazers knew it.

This guy was the Kansas City Kings announcer until they left, then he was the Sonics announcer until they left, panic!

For real though, I don't think it's a coincidence he decided to come here a month or so after the Sonic arena deal got voted down. He must think that place is a lost cause for at least the rest of his career.

I don't think it's coincidental either. Not at all.

I don't mind the hire. It's just the way they handled the hire...
So, I'm really out of the loop on this one, but when and why did they decide to let the two Mikes go? I didn't see this coming. Also, based on the videos that someone posted above, it seems that Calabro was the radio announcer for the Sonics, not the TV guy.

I think you mis-read. He said that the hiring process involved bringing in people of similar ages. The firing had nothing to do with age; he was just relating that the family atmosphere created doesn't preclude them from firing someone if it's what's best for the business.

Fire or hire - it doesn't matter. It's discrimination based on age. It would have been no different if the boss said he wanted to hire only white females in their 20s. But I digress - this is a Calabro thread! :-)

Even if that's true (which it's not, cause it's definitely more than one or two people upset that Mike and Mike were fired), you didn't answer the question. What good does it do? Are people in this forum going to watch more games because they hired this Cerebro guy? I don't think so.

I've spoken to Sonic fans that have already said they will tune in at least a couple of times just to hear that voice again in a somewhat local vein. As an owner, that is all you can ask because if they tune in a couple of times, maybe they tune in again and you may end up with a few converts and a larger audience. It's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility to see that happening. To be able to do that with the guy on the call for the NBA Finals...winning.

Calabro and Barry calling CJ's highlights.

Could get used to this.

That sounds very good and that is a national broadcast. Wait until he can throw a little homer emphasis on it.....can't wait.

Correct.

Funny though, my thought when I read this thread earlier today was: What about Olshey effectively saying he only wants to hire players in Dame's age range? I wonder why that isn't age discrimination? Because the team isn't a separate entity from the league, perhaps, and the league doesn't make those kinds of statements?

So I guess it's time to tell you why I know......

I think HCP's wife will land the job...now she knows the Blazers...and folks..that's the REAL inside stuff
