Jabari Walker

Didi is guaranteed. There is absolutely no reason to waive the guy unless we thought someone would pick him up from the waiver wire and I don't think any of us are under that delusion. Didi is a body on the bench and in practice. I'm really interested in who our second two way will be and am really hoping it's a big.
I think Alexander is playing for a contract tomorrow. I hope he gets a chance to earn one.

He's not Superman, but the Blazers don't need him to be.

They need some added length and size inside, a guy that won't get posted up easily but can still challenge when switched onto a guard on the perimeter. They need a guy who finishes defensive possessions by boxing out and getting the boards so as not to give the other team extra possessions. They need a guy who can finish on cuts to the basket and can make a couple of wide-open 3s.

We have a lot of guys who can score. We need guys who can pick up some slack on the other end, hit the boards and aren't complete lost causes on offense.

Jabari Walker seems to check all those boxes and might even be a little more, which is tremendous.
Yeah I think that with guys like Walker and Watford, no one expects a guy in that range to ever be more than a solid contributor. But at the same time, if we keep drafting guys who are smart defenders with that are already good at one thing offensively, they should be able to step in and contribute the way Miami keeps finding ways to put guys I’ve never heard of in the game.

Bringing Mike Schmitz on makes me excited for the upcoming drafts, even if we have to trade our 1sts.

Is Alexander even eligible for a two way? He has one year of experience. He’s also older than Drew Eubanks…

Tbh, I don't see anything that special in Alexander even if he were eligible. I feel like there are plenty of GLeague bigs every year who are better than him. I'd rather keep the two way until later and have Schmitz scout a guy for us who is younger and has upside that we can poach from the GL later on in the season.

NBA Contract Types — CBA Breakdown

  • A Two-Way Contract cannot be signed by a player that has (or may have during its term) 4 or more years of service (for example, a player with 3 years of service cannot sign a 2-year Two-Way Contract). Nor can a player sign a Two-Way Contract that would result in the player being under a Two-Way Contract for any part of more than 3 seasons with the same team (for example, a player that just completed a 2-year Two-Way Contract cannot then sign another 2-year Two-Way Contract with that team).
If he's only got one year of service, we should be good.

Alexander’s speed and quickness with his height and length are well beyond normal for an NBA big. Reports of his having a jump shot, aside, his value as a project for defense makes a 2-way contract a good day.

Amar Sylla (currently on Cleveland's SL Roster).

Man, that's so awesome for Jabari. He seems like such a good person. His dad told him there's nothing wrong with being a role player and he's embraced that being okay. \

Now, please be at least a 3-year deal so we have him for cheap the next 3 seasons and would have full bird rights after.

Hoping it’s a 4 year deal. I haven’t had more excitement for a second rounder than Trent, who I always wished we signed to a 4 year deal rather than a 3 year deal.

There aren’t many guys with his length in the g league, not without two way deals at least. He played in Spain which is a level above the g league both basketball wise and financially. I read he’s being recruited by some pretty big European clubs but his focus is on the summer league, so I’m guessing he’s trying to get back in the NBA.

Hes only been playing basketball since he was a jr in high school, so his age isn’t really indicative of anything.

Hell yes! I was just saying a few days ago we should lock this kid up on the cheap now....4 years would be great or as hoopsjock said 3 and bird rights. ..I just feel this kid is a keeper and is going to be something special. He's got that humble Wes Mathews chip on his shoulder from dropping down or out of the draft that he'll prove them all wrong with his game on the floor. We can get a two way contract backup center .

His pop worked with him on fundamentals and the phycological tools of the game.

do you know how happy i am not to have to sleuth around social media anymore?

Speaking of which, far more compelling right now is GP2 liking posts by porn stars and following them on twitter. Wonder how he's handling the vices of Vegas this week.

LOL Illmatic do you just wear VR goggles all day and scan the socials?!?!?

not anymore. i'm retiring from that thankless job. never amounts to any new info and you start to feel like a creeper.

Dumb question… how much is a Rookie 2nd Round pick Full Contract?

doesn't make sense to cut didi immediately unless we have plans to bring someone else on. we will get no cap savings, only a roster spot. we can always cut him later if we want to use his spot for someone else, or hell maybe even tack on his contract with Keon/Winslow/etc in a trade to remove his salary altogether

Maybe favor to him and agent if there is zero chance we will keep him I guess so he can play elsewhere.

I woulda thought we keep him for a trade or to flip at the deadline to dip below the luxury tax.

Most often they are veteran minimum. But that can only be a 2 year deal. Teams usually use a cap exception to sign for more years such as the amount the Blazers currently have available in the MLE after signing Hard Cap Payton.

So I'd expect its the minimum, but we don't know if its 2, 3 or 4 years. Probably likely its 3 or 4.

We'd be dumb at this point to not sign him for three or four years.
