Crazy how people we disagree with are “traitors” now, rather than just people with different opinions.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say this isn’t a good precedent to be setting. At what point do we devolve into wanting those we disagree with to simply be killed? Or are we already there?

Maybe traitor isnt the right word. Lets brain storm, what should we call people who threaten your life, support people who threaten your life, cause a violent insurection, and support theories and people who are obviously crazy and dangerous?

It’s the same shit. The left just added buzzwords like ‘coup’ and ‘insurrection’ to riots that weren’t theirs to spice them up. Cities burned and people died in both cases. Your riots aren’t holier than any others. It’s just a bunch of hopeless people fucking shit up. It doesn’t matter if it was in DC or every other city.
 
it seems pretty clear the difference between the summer's "protests" which usually went too far turning into riots by idiots like Antifa - and attended by the Proud Boys lets not forget. Which every single person in here was against. Antifa sucks, round em up, jail them. Been saying from the start. That, versus storming the CAPITOL of the USA, carrying bombs, people dying, targeting (but failing of course) politicians and carrying hand ties, erecting a full blown noose/stage contraption, after getting egged on by the President. I mean its predictable, the "yeah but you did that in the summer", because thats what a 7th grader would say, but its not the same.

The result was the same. Whatever intent you apply to the situation doesn’t change the end result. You can make conspiracy claims about what the intent was on January 6, or even any of the riots this summer. What matters is what actually happened, not whatever people think could have maybe happened. Those dipshits at the capital looked more surprised than anyone that they actually made it into the chambers. They didn’t even know what to do once they got in there. They were taking selfies and sitting at the principals desk like 7th graders. It wasn’t a militaristic planned takeover, it was a bunch of morons who broke in and didn’t even know what to do once they got there. Punishment needs to be handed out over the injured and dead and the destruction of property, not over whatever grand conspiracy people are pretending these idiots concocted.

Intent does matter. That's why we have different charges for (for example) killing someone depending on whether you intended to do it, or did it via negligence or accident.

The US is saying the capital rioters intended to "capture and assassinate" members of Congress. Evidence is starting to come in that law enforcement, both former and current, were involved in the insurrection. There are reports that inside help from members of Congress may have occurred. There's clear evidence of men dressed in military gear making their way through the crowd in what the military calls a "ranger file", each man holding the jacket collar of the man in front of them. It's standard procedure for a combat team preparing to breach a building. They employed tactics and used technology such as two-way radios. They had insider information as to where to go once inside. It's already reported that the public doesn't know the real details of what was happening inside. Social media is hardly the whole story.

This was a planned assault my many with a clear purpose. These are all people that would be traitors given their intent and in many cases their position in the military, law enforcement or politics. They specifically tried to overturn a fair presidential election by force. That's pretty cut and dry.

The summer was about rioting and vandalism and instances of assault. Congress had not convened at Rite Aid on Sunset boulevard or at the marijuana dispensary in Van Nuys. Those weren't federal buildings. I googled and confirmed that those aren't the epicenter of the legislative branch.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not this stupid and assume you're trolling, in which case congratulations.

Intent and motivation are also what separate the (good, conceptual idea of) police from violent criminals. Arguing that nothing matters but results means that a policeman who ends up shooting a violent gunman to save a family is no better than the violent gunman because the result was murder, no matter the intent or motivation. It means harming or killing someone in self-defense is no better than going out and attacking someone.

In other words, it's an incredibly silly argument that virtually no one believes, probably including the person who put it out there. But no doubt, he'll say something like "You know that's not what I said, I'm not even going to discuss it with someone who would twist my words."

Depends what you think the "result" was. A mess? Sure. I think the result of an attempted takeover of the US Capital is worse than breaking windows at Nordstroms. "Detruction" comes in all shapes and sizes. They are not all the same. Antifa did not have the most powerful person in America encouraging them, the Capitol insurrectionists did (do). Person after person shouted dangerous rhetoric that led to that debacle. And again, as I have said from the get-go, Antifa sucks. Fuck them, arrest them, put them in jail, fine them, all of it. But Antifa doesn't have a "leader" let alone leaders in our government pushing them along. This is apples/oranges. Who gives a F about broken windows, the damage here is incalculable.
