Notice Joe Cronin Press Conference

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Did about as well as he could in this difficult situation, I hope Dame and his agent respond in kind
I don't know if they will, at least I think there is very little chance they do publicly but maybe we start to see reports that Dame is open to joining other teams in winning situations.

when he was talking about Ant-Scoot-Sharpe going forward, I wish somebody would have asked something like:

"Joe, the biggest failure of the roster over the last 8 seasons has been a massive failure of balance. While the rest of the NBA has invested in wings and two-way players, in length and versatility, in front-court/back-court balance, the Blazers have been perhaps the most unbalanced team in the league. The talent & usage has been in the back court, but the investment was in talent without length, and talent that can't defend; this came at the expense of having enough talent and versatility in the front court. Portland has been way too small. And you're extolling the virtues of another small guard rotation; a rotation without length and a rotation that will be a defensive liability. You're talking about repeating the biggest roster failure of the last 8 seasons, and you're acting like the result will be different this time

my question is: what the hell are you thinking?
"

Based on this press conference, I don't think anyone blames Dame for wanting a trade. Even Cronin doesn't blame him.

The issue most people have is insisting on only one team. It limits the franchise.

Sounds like they still have a good relationship or he is trying to be amicable anyway.

He was nice about Dame wanting only Miami, saying it wasn't upsetting but it made the job of trading him tougher with less options.

Anyone got a link where i can watch from the start? Had to miss the beginning

If it takes months, it takes months.

I agree with that, and I think Cronin is bothered that he's being limited. He's just too nice to show it.

Lettuce be honest.

The only reason fans have turned on Dame is the demand to Miami only and the way it's been handled.

Joe did a great job in this interview. I love his humility. Not many GM's would have admitted some blame. That being said, he's still going to do right by the Blazers as he should

I caution folks though, he's had over a week to prepare for this.

He is also sending Miami a message that he is in no hurry. So if they want Dame they need to continue to work on getting us a deal that is fair.
They're also the ones in the time crunch. We aren't in a hurry to win now, regardless of what Cronin said, so we can afford to watch free agents come off the board that we may have wanted. The Heat want a title next season so they've got to build that roster and they have to know what this deal looks like in order to build it. They can't let free agent targets come off the board. The pressure is on them.

That last sentence by Chauncey is really .... eye opening.

Dame is definitely having some issues in his personal life.

Dude I dont think it’s that deep he just means being traded also involves moving his family and what not..

I've made peace with 3 1sts/1 swap + Jovic + Whatever we get for JJJ/Martin/Herro.

But it's clear the offer isn't even at that stage yet.

But honestly, we can be more patient than Miami. Doesn't matter if we go into the season with Dame on the bench, but the longer Miami waits, the more vet min FAs fall off the board - they are trying to win now and they need to fill the back half of their rotation with guys that make up for the depth they lost/will lose in the Dame trade.

I think Cronin did a fairly good job in this press conference. It's not very often that speaking publically will help a GMs negotiating position and I'm not sure this helped, but it also didn't seem to hurt it.

Taking ownership for the Dame situation is honorable, even though we all knew it; some GMs couldn't even own up to the obvious.

While taking accountability for failure is admirable, I'm exhausted in hearing "we tried but failed." And clearly, so is Dame.

What gives you confidence that this guy will build the right roster this time around?

He does not have an artificial time deadline on it, because this has been his exact modus operandi - not be reactive, truly figure out what you want to do and be patient doing it.

This dude tells you over and over what he is going to try and do - and people still seem not to get it.

Because he's off to a pretty good start with the last two drafts. Schmidt is on board.

Not sure how anyone can't be at least a little excited currently with the future.

Has he once actually accomplished what he is "trying to do?"

A for effort... I guess?

We discussed it in a previous thread and I showed you he is slowly doing exactly what he told you at the time. You not willing to accept it and living in a fantasy world where things happen over-night for such a big project is not a reflection on Cronin, imho.

18 months is not overnight. He has had 4 major trading periods, and accomplished very little past adding flexibility (that he never ended up using).

No, and he's not sure he will, but he's upfront about it.
