Exclusive Joe Cronin presser

So you think he should mortgage the future to build around a 33 year old LOL
I'm gonna say "mortgage the future " is quite the overstate. Putting some great veteran players using today's and a few future picks, around arguably the best player in the franchises history, is not putting the franchise in peril. There would be more potential great picks after Dame retires. Unless we're all going to be dead in the next 5 years because of Mega Earthquake, War, Meteor, or environmental disaster. At that point those future picks won't mean JACK SQUAT!

Interesting that Cronin said they measured Scoot at 6'2.5" barefoot... that's .75" taller than Dame and means he's actually pushing 6'3.5" or 6'4" in shoes.

Well shoot, than's damn near Paul Bunyan.

Add some high heel sneakers from Steely Dan's song and he can play center.

"trying" gets a kudos now? at the end of the day, he didn't. pat on the back for trying... uh maybe trying.

I said nothing about kudos/praise... you stated he didn't try and I'm asking how you're aware of what he tried to do. You brought up trying, not me.

Small forward!

This team is in good hands with Joe Cronin. The dude is a leader and has surrounded himself with quality talent. If this were about building a team, he would thrive. The fact that he needs to walk the tightrope of building a team while dealing with fans with intense devotion to a particular player must be a nightmare.

That was the report form a week or so ago. The report was just under 6’4 in shoes. Pair that with a 6’9 wingspan.

I don't think Cronin is awesome, but to pretend like this roster isn't asset weak because of what it took to get off 3 bad contracts, two years ago, is a bit naive. The impacts of stuff like that is likely to last many years, there is a butterfly effect when you start out from behind.
I still contend that Powell wasn’t a bad contract. Who was the other bad contracts? CJ and?

I’m referring to the people complaining we didn’t trade away the 3rd pick.

He's not the only people giving us an A.

What other sites are you seeing team grades? I'm struggling to find them online.

I see some with individual pick grades, but no team grades.

I posted a video of CBS giving us an A.

Yeah, I read there was a report, but there were also tweets about lots of players being taller than they were, so it was nice to hear from a reliable source.

I think the report was from Givony and it was that both Portland and Charlotte measured him at that height.

I was initially pissed. But after Siakam told the Raptors he wasn't going to sign with a new team that traded for him, because he wanted to stay a Raptor, i moved on. Then Brooklyn said nokie dokie on trading Bridges. Time to move on. Pels decided to keep Zion, at least for now since he apparently is working out with CJ and looks thinner, i moved on. That being said, I want Joe to go after DeMar DeRozan because he can help this team get better NOW. I think a starting lineup of Nurk, Grant, DeRozan, Sharpe, and Dame is pretty damn good . Only Denver in the West is a giant. Every other team has warts and is too far over the cap.

Phoenix will has spent 170 mil on 5 guaranteed contracts. None plays any sort of great defense either. So they're going to be a juggarnaut with 10 G League or new draftees to fill out their roster, unless the FIX is on. I doubt it.

LA , Golden State, or any other team is not unbeatable . Blazers need to stay healthy 1st and foremost. But that's every team. IF Sharpe takes the next step, Scoot is all that's advertised, and Murray (ready made at 23 to produce) can be good contributor, and the Blazers add DeMar DeRozan to the starting 5, i like the Blazers chances next year to at least be in the mix in the West.

Yeah there just wasn’t a trade there. We have to move Simons though. No way around that.

I think Ant and an unprotected pick (2024) will work for DeRozen and reconciliation of the pick owed for good. Blazers then have access to future capital for more moves TBD.

I don't love that from a value standpoint.

Also reduces our spacing and doesn't improve our defense.
Yes it does. DeRozan's is one of the better defenders at his position in the League. Maybe the best Mid range shooter in the League. And he gets to the line a ton. Refs have always respected him. Ant's a shooter, that's it.

i'm 100% fine with maximizing assets and setting up future moves. i wanted us to take scoot.

but he did NOTHING else to even try to build a roster that can compete anytime soon. he sold us on this two-timeline stuff. but his moves indicate that the only timeline he's thinking of is the future. simply keeps kicking the can down the road.

Huh, I guess I just see it in a different perspective. Or maybe it's just the timeline I hoped they would go down. I just didnt see a path where we get competitive in dames prime anymore. It sucks, and I still want dame here, and maybe we get the breaks to make a run. But we can't mortgage it and screw us for 10 years. Gotta think of the team more than (the greatest) star (we've ever had). And y'all know how I feel about Dame so maybe I'm just in the acceptance process lol

And we add a decade to a key rotation player. And he's an expiring contract, so we either re-sign his mid-30's ass or lose whatever value he has entirely.

Ick.

And DeRozan hardly shoots them.
So...

- More expensive than Ant
- Is an expiring contract
- Plays bad defense
- Nine years older than Ant
- Doesn't make 3 pointers

We trade for him because... he's three inches taller than Simons and makes 3.5 more free throws per game*? Really?

*I doubt he'd keep that up coming to Portland, since he'd probably be the third- or fourth-best option offensively, rather than with Chicago where he was basically tied with Levine for most FGA on the Bulls.
