See your point, not sure how to prevent this? Any ideas?

My point is. Love is a good player, when he plays. The only way we make this trade is if he plays when we need him the most, the playoffs.

If Love does not play, it costs us much more than his lost production. We can not afford to gamble $30 million a year, for 4 years on a player that does not play in the playoffs. It would cripple the team.

We need some sort of protection to take on his huge contract, due to his yearly injuries. Or no deal.
Im just saying those pick protections are extremely unrealistic and would never happen lol. I didnt think you were serious when suggesting them haha. I dont think theyre even possible.

I am serious. Without the picks, no deal.

Love's contract is probably going to be the worst contract in the entire NBA very soon. It is going to cost the Cavs alot to move him.

Let's say Love miss 20 games during the season after some injuries/rest. 2 games before the end of the season the Blazers rest him before the play-off. What happens then? You can't put those kind of protections. Or if you can, nobody would agree to it.

Trail Blazers New Big 3
4 OF 5

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: PF Kevin Love

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: C Meyers Leonard, SF Maurice Harkless, F/C Skal Labissiere, 2020 first-round pick (lottery protected)

Having recently reached the Western Conference Finals without them, imagine what adding a healthy Jusuf Nurkic and Love would do for the Blazers.

Portland has no cap space to sign any big-name free agents and must rely on the trade market to propel it to a Finals appearance.

With Nurkic out indefinitely while rehabbing a broken leg, the Blazers will need another big man if Enes Kanter leaves in free agency. Starting power forward Al-Farouq Aminu is an unrestricted free agent, as well.

Love could play both power forward and center, giving the Blazers a third scoring option outside of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum who can space the floor and rebound at a high level.

Cleveland may not have much use for Leonard or Harkless, but it could use their expiring contracts as trade bait closer to the February deadline. Labissiere, 23, is an interesting young big man who's put up strong numbers in the G League (16.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.7 blocks per game) and seems ready for a rotation role at the NBA level. He has the size (6'11", 235 lbs) to play both power forward and center and has hit 27 of his 72 NBA three-pointers (37.5 percent).

A lottery-protected first-rounder from Portland should seal the deal for both sides.

Even current Portland resident and former Love teammate Channing Frye approves.

Interesting that both teams get worse and Portland gets the even shorter end of the stick in terms of wins. Right now, it would just take Meyers/Harkless in terms of cap space. That changes after July 1 and the cost will go up for Portland. Not that CLE would take just Meyers/Mo....but for 2 more days, that is all that would be required from a cap standpoint.

Cavs writer for the athletic thinks teams that strike out on big FAs will go after Love. Feels like this cle/Por trade would’ve happened already if it were a reality.

Desperate teams. The Blazers have no need to be a desperate team.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have shown limited interest in engaging in Kevin Love trade discussions, sources tell ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Love's contract extension starts at $28.9 million this season, then goes to $31 million over Year 2 and Year 3, before going back down to $28.9 million in 22-23.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz have frequently been mentioned as possible trading partners for Love.

Translation, were trying to drive up the price, signed Dan Gilbert.

Probably true but they have to at least wait and see how free agency shakes out to see which teams become desperate right? They probably know our offer is on the table and isn’t going anywhere. I bet he’s with us in the next two weeks

Apparently, their plan is to wait until teams (think Knicks) miss out on free agency, and offer space and picks for Love.

I am serious. Without the picks, no deal.

Loves contract wont be the worst contract in the NBA for a single day. It might be bottom 10-15 consistently, but every time you think NBA GM’s are going to stop over paying guys the 1st week of July rolls around.

I love the thought of Love because of the price. If its more then Harkless/Leonard and a 1st i'd have ot pass on it. Wont give up Simmions or Collins. I see all this talk about not trading Love as the cavs trying to raise the trade price. If they really wanted to keep him and weren't eager to move him then they wouldn't have shut him down for the season last year just to tank.

If it doesn't happen by Sunday night I don't think it will happen with the Blazers being involved.

Because if he can DROP 30 on NBA players having NO advanced b-ball experience or coaching — that means he has a brighter future WITH that coaching, right? At least that’s how I see it.

Kinda like a guy who starts playing baseball at 17 and throws 95 with shit mechanics.

If you’re a baseball scout, you’d assume, with proper coaching, weight room, more experience ... you could probably make him a little better, right? Since he’s never been coached before — at an elite level.

Consider us different than. Find me another rookie who dropped 30 — under the same circumstances I gave above.

It’s not like we are the only team with a young rookie who had a chance to play scrubs.

All gms aNd coaches will say if you have two guys who put the same stats up/ specs, measurements, etc, but one is schooled and one is not, you always take the guy not schooled. More to learn provides higher upside

Anyone interested in having an all out, total shit flinging, name calling debate, about politics or religion here in this thread???

A very small part of me would like to see a Live Whiteside 4/5 combo. I know about Love’s contract and defense, but the offense would be really fun to watch.
