I think Olshey has only overpaid in a trade once (the trade with Denver for AA). I don't think he'll go back to that.

hopefully he won't...but the way you describe it isn't the full story either:

* Olshey has made several trades as the Blazer GM. But in the players for players market, almost all of his trades have been for players the other team was looking to dump; players the other team was through with like Harkless or Plumlee or Maynor or Nurkic or Lopez. Diving deep into the bargain bin and finding motivated sellers. Trade where Olshey had a leverage advantage. Olshey has really done well in those type of trades
with his only real bust being the trade for TRob.

* in 7.6 years, IIRC, he's only made 2 trades when the leverage has been even or in the favor of the other guy; when the market was competitive: the Afflalo trade and the Batum trade. The Afflao trade wasn't a disaster, but it was a bad trade for Portland. The Batum trade wasn't as bad but it wasn't a good return either

he'll be way out of his comfort zone in a Love trade. There will be other bidders.
******************************

And the Afflalo trade has some worrying parallels: at that time, there was lots of pressure on Olshey to make a move. There was nothing dependable behind Matthews. CJ had injury issues and Stotts didn't trust him. Stotts didn't trust Barton either. More than that was that Portland had won 54 games the year before and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. That left optimism for the future if only Portland could add another dependable player and some quality depth. But the next season, Portland was struggling and all the promise of the previous season was crumbling under the weight of a flawed roster and an injury to the starting C

does any of that sound familiar? what I'm worried about is a repeat where Olshey does something dumb in a hail-mary attempt to salvage a season that is already circling the drain .

I know it’s hard to believe but through personal relationships I knew that he wanted to come here
Brother I’m not questioning you. We have a prominent member here who is known to get all his inside info from his pizza delivery man. Won’t say his name, but his initials are MM!

I know I was trying to correct my tone in my response to you. No hard feelings lol

If we have to have Kevin Love here’s what I’m giving up

Whiteside (and only if Nurk is healthy) and a couple seconds.

That’s it. No Simons. No Little. No Collins. Nothing. Look at his numbers, age, and contract. Cleveland would be lucky to dump him on us.

Yeah, this is pretty much where I'm at.

Wheter you want him in PDX or nor it's really cool to see that players want to play in Portland

Has he actually indicated that? Because that sounds like "click bait" by someone who is an idiot.
As noted previously, @BLAZINGGIANTS And I were In Cleveland for the last game of last season (and to put on a wine tasting for Channing Frye). We had a very nice chat with Love and his girlfriend. They both stated right up front that they would love it if he was traded to Portland. Not sure if that helps but it came straight from the horse’s mouth.....

But the problem is we would have huuuge money commiting to 3 players, and from 2021

Lillard: 43.7M
McCollum: 30.8M
Love: 31.3M

Thats 105.5 million for only 3 players, how do you want to build a team, let alone a championship team with that limited cap space ???

Lets add Nurkics salary of 12 million that would be 117 million for 4 players, who would be the starting wing? In best case Nassir Little, the salary of the starting 5 at the time would be 120 Million, how do you fill the other 10 roster spots?

The Lakers pretty much mortgaged there future on Anthony Davis. He has an injury history and a big contract.
One player is an MVP caliber player who is entering his prime at 26; while the other is a fringe all-star level player entering the end of his career.

These aren't really comparable situations.

Not sure if it is possible as I am not a capologist, but what if Cleveland was interested in including Tristan Thompson also?
I think they want too much then; rather just pick up Noah if he is healthy.

This is the most I'd give up for TT & Love. MAYBE include a 2nd rounder.
It's interesting that this program predicts a worse record after the trade....

If we included Bazemore with Whiteside then it works. I don't know if either team does that though and with Hood out for the year the Blazers would need a wing at some point and that would be more magnified if Baze is traded for a big.

Well I have you both on ignore...

If/when the Blazers are granted the Hood Disabled Player Exception the Blazers should ask the Cavs for Alfonzo McKinnie. He'd be a cheap filler for depth this year.

Money! And lots of it. Jody?

He's only 27. We can still develop him and hold him untouchable!
