Kevin Love sweepstakes

Trade machine is broke, notice there are no numbers next to anyone's name. It happens every year when the new league year starts.

The Nuggets are desperate to shed money. We are one of only a few teams that could take a big salary from them without any money going back.

Ok fair enought. Why are the nuggets desperate to shed money? they would move faried+1st before chandler or why are they more desperate than PDX?

CJ for Love doesn’t make sense for them. If they want to trade Love it’s because they want to rebuild and to do that they cannot acquire a player who is experienced and will help you win now.

I have Phoenix as my favorite to get Love by a distance. They got the assets to get this done, they can send Chriss or Bender, someone to match salaries and at least one pick. Even their own picks are valuable these days because with how stacked the West is it doesn’t matter that they will have Love, Ayton and their young core will have grown since last season, they could still be a lottery team.

Do the Denver trade first:

Wilson Chandler and a lottery protected 2019 1st using the TPE and throw them a future 2nd in the deal.

Then what if we offered both the Denver pick AND our pick in 2019, Turner, and Leonard for Love? It would help them suck more and they'd have multiple picks to rebuild with.

Aminu and Leonard isn't enough to make the trade work.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then we could....

I like your idea BonesJones, err HoopsJock :)

My gut feeling is, acquiring hometown Love would go about as well as acquiring hometown Stoudamire did.

It is likely, but you have to admit that the fit is fine for Portland.

He adds a 3rd scorer which this team really needs.
He is a good rebounder - so it overcomes the issues left from not bringing Ed back.
He can space the floor - so can co-exist with Nurk.
He can play close to the basket or outside - so can co-exist with ZCo.

He can be used in the old LMA role - as a pick and pop target, and he has some post game - and can also be used as a 3Pt shooter (which LMA could not).

If the opportunity is there that retains Dame, CJ, Nurk and ZCo - I think it is well worth the gamble - something like Harkless + MyLe + pick(s) should do it. The Cavs get one young SF to add to their rebuild, one excellent bench warmer and (a) pick(s). Not too shaby.

Do it! do it now!

Next year's draft sucks a fat one. Package that pick asap.

I'd offer up:

Turner + Swainagan + 2019 Lotto 1st.

or possibly a S&T Nurk for Love. (I think we can do S&T sending players OUT without getting hard-capped, right?)

I'd like to like this twice.

You know how we signed ET and then all our own FAs and were screwed in 2016. Basically, that's this year for the Nuggets. They just signed Jokic for $30 mil/year, and signed Barton, too.

No one will take Faried and he now makes too much money for our TPE. Chandler fits into it. They are going deep into the tax and aren't as willing to do so as other teams. Gotta take advantage of that. Allen opening up his wallet is the only way to truly get better this summer.

Well if we get Chandler+Love for Meyers and lets say Harkless (swap of picks with Denver) then NO is a genius..

There is no way its going to happen

That is the EXACT type of situation that Olshey is being patient for though. The players and teams might be different but his whole philosophy as a GM to retain assets has been to pull off something like this when the time comes. Maybe he isn't a fan of Love or his fit here or his injury history so that wouldn't happen but I think this is the type of thing he is holding out for. It's why he keeps kicking the can down the road, his problem is the road is about to become a dead end.

If Olshey can parlay the trade exceptions plus any combination of Turner/Meyers/Aminu/Caleb/Layman/Picks for Love and Chandler (or Tyreke Evans), this board should build a statue in his honor.

Or this scenario (not a fan of Clarkson but we'd have to take something back with the TPE to make it work):

Cleveland gets Faried, Turner, Denver 2019 1st, and either Swanigan or one of Denver's expendable young guys (Lydon, Lyles, Hernangomez, Beasley)

Denver gets Caleb Swanigan (or simply cap relief if Cleveland wants Swanigan)

Portland gets Love and Clarkson (using TPE)

Then we plug Clarkson into the starting SG spot after we trade CJ/Meyers/1st for Kawhi/Pau.

Because Denver is at about $145mil right now and haven't really done anything to improve their team other than retain Barton and Jokic.

Okay, I've got it...

Denver gets a future 2nd round pick from us

Cleveland gets Turner, Leonard, Swanigan, Layman, and a 2019 lottery protected 1st (Denver)

Portland gets Love, JR Smith, and Wilson Chandler (TPE)

Starters: Dame, CJ, Hark, Love, Nurk

Bench: Baldwin, JR, Chandler, Aminu, Collins

Deep Bench: Simons, Trent, Stauskas, PapaG

Still have the tax-MLE to sign a 15th roster spot.

Yes, much better, thank you! Too bad it's not better for SA.
You think they'd rather swap Pau for Meyers??

In all reality, in the hypothetical where they're trading for CJ, why wouldn't they want to send Danny Green back in exchange?

Why does Cleveland do that? Take our 4 worst players so they can get a 1st rnder from Denver? Portland gets out of it without trading a 1st? Not realistic

Didn't he opt out?

1) They get rid of JR Smith

2) They shave a decent chunk off their salary this year

3) Draft picks are gold for a complete rebuild situation like Cleveland is in (especially when they owe their own to Atlanta if it isn't top-10 this year)

4) Swanigan and Layman are cheap and could still develop. Turner and Leonard help them tank.

5) They get rid of JR Smith

Conference finals? :)

Well played.

I was thinking more along the lines of all the drama surrounding Damon's 4th quarter playing time, his mental fortitude, his inability to live up to his contract, etc. Being the local kid didn't work to his advantage.

Sure, on paper he's a good fit, but he hasn't really been that player since Minnesota. I do think he'll do better without GM LeBron hovering over him, but right now I wouldn't bank on him being any more more than a vastly overpaid role player. I think/hope Collins will be better than Love in a year or two.

Coming out of college, I said Love would be the perfect 3rd big behind Oden and Aldridge, able to compliment either with his inside/out game, mirroring what you said. Unfortunately, his stock rose too rapidly for us to have a chance of nabbing him. Boy how the luster wore off all three of those dudes.
