Knick Salary Cap woes? Not so.....

I researched on Hoopshype.com and saw the expiring contracts coming off the $125 Million salary within the next 2 years...

Between Hardaway and Antonio Davis.. the Knicks will lose around 30 Million after this season.

Penny - $15,750,000
Davis - $13,900,000

That adds up to 29,650,000 dollars off the cap for the 2006-2007 season.

Things get even better after next season.

Allan, Mo Taylor and Shandon Anderson's contracts are up freeing the Knicks of nearly 40 Million dollars.

Allan - 20,718,000
Taylor - 9,750,000
Anderson - 7,244,000

Add another 37,712,000 off the cap for the summer of 2007.

All together it's 67,362,000.

Whether Isiah chooses to let the contracts expire or package them into trades.. the Knicks can contine to have flexibility and hopefully continue to improve.

where the hell were all of you when Layden was here? I guess you loved having Glen Rice and Travis Knight in knick uniforms. And Eisley as your starting PG. And having 4 years of wasted drafts. Going back to 1999 when that moron Tapscott chose Weis over Artest. And I don't care what logic people throw about getting a center. They could have easily taken Ron and brought him up after Sprewell.

If all everyone is gonna do is b**** and moan then why even bother following the team.. you're in Miami... stick with the Heat.

Cause I know for damn sure if Isiah would have gotten Walker and Williams everybody would be complaining about getting 2 chuckers... who both have low FG% and jack up shots like there's tomorrow. And I'm glad Miami got those 2 cause that team is a losing streak away from imploding.

There's no optimism around here.. it's all well damn Zeke screwed it up.. again. It's not even November yet.

And I never said the Knicks were gonna be under the cap.. or that they'll have the room to steal Lebron from Cleveland but since all people wanna focus on is how much the Knicks are spending... losing 70 Million dollars in useless salary should mean something... but then again what do I know.

It is a good thing we have all of these expiring contracts in the next couple of years, but unless Zeke can resist the temptation and let the contracts expire, we're not going to make any progress. These days, rebuilding teams will trade away stars for cap relief. With that being said, the Knicks can get a star on the level of someone such as Baron Davis for an expiring contract. Knowing Zeke, he'd probably trade our expiring contracts, but can we complain? With one of our expiring contracts (Tim Thomas), he got us a 22-year-old center who's dripping with potential. Are we going to get mad about that? Besides, if things get really bad, I think Brown will become the GM of the Knicks.

Isiah will just do the NY thing - it's like a never-ending cycle. No matter what, we'lll just trade away our expiring contracts to take on a pretty good player along with a bunch of huge contracts.

New York teams really never go ahead and re-build. We'll be over the cap for a long time.

I don't see how a $67 million payroll gives you any flexibility. You're still over the threshold and about $20 million over the cap. The Knicks won't have any more flexibility on the free agent market in 2007 than they do now. The most they can sign a free agent to is still the MLE, and that $67 million is projected on the assumption that they do not sign or re-sign any players, draft picks included, until the offseason of 2007. Would the Knicks still be a competitive team without their big contracts?

But that squad had expiring contracts and a chase to get real players from the Free Agency and assemble the right team.

We already had post scorer with Sweetney, we already had 3pt shooting and low FG%, why not another one Isiah says?

Or how about a career 15 minute per game center or even another draft two more PF's on the team? Hey why not another point guard, even though we have a top 3-5 PG in the world, playing 40 minutes a game for us.

Theres no question the "talent" upgraded, but the puzzle isn't going to fit together, this team isn't balanced at all, and Isiah needs to stop toying around with the salary, and add some enforcements on the team.

Do you honestly feel with Layden around he'd assemble anything close to a team? And i'm not sure if you remember but while he was around.. players made it known they weren't exactly looking to play in NY. Those 4 years had nothing.. no buzz.. no hope... no chance. Hell even the draft picks were flops.

Even if Ariza was Zeke's only pick in the last 2 years.. that's years ahead of those goons.. At least Trevor has shown an upside and is a consistant jumpshot away from being a regular in the rotation. Not only that but he's still only 20. And I see how people bash Frye without even giving the kid a damn chance. LB has already praised both Nate and David Lee. So there is hope that this team does have a future.

And bringing in players like Felton Spencer, Lee Nailon, Michael Doleac and an aged Mutombo? As well as giving Don Chaney a free meal to just let the team do what the hell they wanted? For better or worse.. there's a buzz in NY that was never around when Layden was here. I for one look forward to the season with an open mind knowing how f***ed up it was recently. But that's just me.

Hasn't addressed issues? Going into the summer the team had no center... ZERO. Only Kurt Thomas who was a PF.. Now the Knicks have a 22 year old legitimate center.. as well as having a 7 foot back up. Had Zeke known he'd get Curry you think he'd have given James that contract? Who knows.. but what's done is done.. the Knicks now have size upfront.

And as much as people loved Sweetney.. he was an undersized PF... not only that but for all the talk about him having a solid work ethic.. his refusal to play summer league was a red flag to me. Look at him in Chicago.. he looks out of shape. He should have gone to Vegas to work out.

I guess having Fugazi Tim Thomas was a better alternative? At least Q can post up and has size to him. And his game in Phoenix was to stay in the perimeter to leave the lane open for Nash to penetrate... Amare post up and for Marion to drive. Hell his role was a spot up shooter... not to mention he was still behind Joe Johnson. I'm guessing that won't be that way here. I know for damn sure Brown won't let him jack up like that.

So having an abundance of multiple positions is a bad thing? So the fact that you can slide JC to PG and move Steph to SG.. or have QR at SF and SG is a bad thing? That the front court now has the size to actually compete with the rest of the league is a bad thing? Minutes are Browns concern... who cares who plays as long as they manage to either keep a lead or switch tempo. Would you rather have a 7 man roster or a roster who's bench you can actually use? And this is excluding Houston.. imagine if he was healthy.

The puzzle wouldn't fit if Herb or Lenny or Don Chaney was still around... if everyone goes into the season thinking it's not gonna work automatically.. then why even bother getting Brown here in the first place. They've got a YOUNG team. Ariza, Curry, Frye, Lee, Nate, QR, JC... they all average the age of 24. At the very best they deserve time to see what they can do.

Lampe still has potential and has showned flashes in his two injured years if you've watched.

honestly, Layden's squad didn't look good on papper, but they still had expiring contracts, and still finish with the same RECORD as Isiah's, so its not like we're progressing, we're still missing the playoffs, and getting 8th round lottery picks.

Frye was a pretty bad pick, consider, he was only in a mock for what? 3-4 months? Just cause he got hot in that tornament? He's a poor rebounder, and is the least physical bigman you could of drafted, thats the last thing we need, Fyre isn't really an impact guy, he was never, not even the best guy on his team, and we take him at 8, all I'm saying, Isiah played me, and that night was a nightmare for, but I've gotten over it, yeh you're right, Fyre is still a young guy, buy a College NCAA senior who played on one of the best college teams in the nation, come on, show me some non-rawness, and act like a polish professional.

To say Fyre is a NBA center is folish, even with his size, he's pretty weak on post defense, we need our most physical players to play the center position, not our most softest.


Please, no more of this Q Richardson is a post god, he's going to dominate in the post this season, I love the guy, but his whole career, he's been up and down, never really a progressor. The last thing Marbury needs is a low FG % Scorer, Richardson has never hit his potential like Tim Thomas

I hate Tim Thomas to defense, but if you look at their career numbers, they're almost identical for crying out loud, except Richardson is a better rebounder, while Thomas is a better long range shooter.


and who did we give up for Richardson? I mean, atleast let it be something that we don't need.

All real Knick fans know this, Kurt Thomas has put this team on his back with his defense, every day, I never really knew why he didnt get votes for atleast a 2nd all defensive team, the man is a rock on the post defense, has great position, and is probably the most consistant player we had the last 3 years.

Phoneix will extremely benefit from Kurt Thomas, they never had a post defender like Kurt before. and Phoneix somtimes would get lost in half court plays, well now, Kurt and Nash will run that pick and roll non stop.

What did Isiah do again? He made Phoneix, AGAIN

Phoneix gives away Ugly long contracts of Marbury and Penny for Lampe, Vujavic, 3 draft picks, and the expiring contract of Antonio McDysess.

What happends?

Well, Knicks make the playoffs, and get embarassed by the Nets, with Tim Thomas making an ass out of himself and the organization.

Phoneix? Well they had a terrible season, but got to show off Amare Stodimire, and Joe Johnson, develop their confidence.

Now they have al this cap space, and sign two key free agents, Nash, the MVP of the NBA, and Richardson, their reliable 3pt spotup shooter, along with their best big man off the bench Steven Hunter.


Thats the direction I want to go, start off from a clean slate.


Well, the Curry move, Sweetney and Curry are both good Scorers, we can agree on that, but wow, atleast Sweetney rebounds the ball, Curry is an atrocious rebounder and defender. So we get WORSE at rebounding...and we lose Tim Thomas for a guy who doesn't even want to be on our team, what is Isiah thinking?

The man shoots with 20 seconds left on the shot clock, and you want him to play the point and run the offense over the top 5 passer in the NBA, and probably a top 10 passer of all time in the NBA.... No I don't want Crawford at the point, we did it for some time last year, it didn't work.


Marbury has size, he's 6"2 204 lbs, thats beautiful size for a PG
