Kobe Bryant has died

Welcome to our community

Nah, Bones knows I love him but I've recently gotten a few PMs from him and others and he doesn't think too highly of me. I don't care if he or anyone makes a thread like that about me.

I completely agree with all of you that Maris's post was f'd up. That said there was nothing about it that violated the rules of the forum. It sure as hell didn't think it belongs in this thread so I moved it to another active thread on the same subject in the OT section of the forum. As I've said to others in PMs even if they had expressed their displeasure with Maris' posts instead of insulting him I would have moved them instead of deleting them so we can keep this thread on a more referential tone.
I appreciate you and everything you have done and continue to do for us and the forum. At the end of the day I'm sure Bones appreciates the opportunities brought about by this community and can't deny that you are a big part of said community and its functioning.

If you want to make a thread about what a piece of shit I am and what I fucked up job of running this place I do then feel free to make that thread but let's keep that out of this one.
Seriously? :smiley-hmm:

Of course I do! But theres some issues here that continue to go unaddressed, and it can be frustrating.

Thats the problem though, what he said should absolutely be against the rules, because of common sense.

Comments like those degrade the forum and its embarrassing that theyre allowed and defended by staff because theyre "not personal insults". You cant get much more toxic than what he just said. That was disgusting.

No one defended his post. I will defend people's rights to express their opinions. There is an active discussion about Kobe and the sexual assault in the OT section. None of the people who posted in that thread did anything wrong. They were expressing their opinions. In this specific case Maris' post did not belong in this thread but that doesn't mean it doesn't belong in the forum. I read his post and moved it to the appropriate thread.

I will always believe that less rules are best. We have enough problems with personal insults. To add some vague common sense rule to the forum would be extremely difficult to enforce, to explain, to teach staff how to fairly and uniformly apply. Common sense according to who? Me? You? We suddenly shut threads down to vote on the common opinion? I've seen people argue it's common sense to trade Lillard. It's common sense to keep Stotts. You can use common sense to try and validate any opinion. But common sense is too subjective.

Now in this case I just so happened to be moving his posts when you saw them and proceeded to insult him. I'm going to ask you again, just like I've asked you before, please, instead of insulting people you disagree with, could you please flag the posts or PM us. Ultimately we were in complete agreeance, those posts did not belong in this thread. I choose to move those posts to a similar thread, and you choose to insult the person who made them. I think I was the one who made the correct decision. I'm sorry that you don't agree with my decision to move the posts but in the future please contact us by PM or by flagging the post instead of deciding to break the few rules we do have.

Maybe. He seemed to be trying to turn that all around and was a loving father. Maybe he wasn't always upstanding. But, he and his daughter just died. I choose to have respect for that.
The loss of the children was especially tragic. The loss of a little girl's father is tragic.

It's common sense that you're right.

Where is the common sense with this place?

Man why you always complaining it’s a freaking Internet forum who gives a shit. Cut Sly a break and understand shit ain’t that serious to be tattling on the basis of “what about his post it’s worse than mine”

Nah dude, that was wayyyy to far to just go to PMs and say "Sly, Maris said something bad".

Some things you just don't say. What he said was one of, if not the most disgusting thing I've seen on this forum. But nope, we have to protect that from insults! That's really what matters here!

For the rest of it, common sense that we should fire Stotts or discussing his sexual assault case is different from the common sense that suggests that its wrong to say "Kobe committed suicide and killed his own his own daughter and others in the pricess because LeBron passed him. What a dispicable human" along with the other garbage he spewed. That stuff belongs in the forum? Guess we disagree then, because I dont think it does.

Did you see what he said? Because my issue is that what he said is allowed to remain on the forum. Are you saying that what he said was completely fine?

And this is ironic coming from you, Tunchi.

Sly, feel free to delete, or move my post telling Maris to be better, since it has his quote in it.

As for the stuff he said, Sly is 100% correct. It didn't violate any rules, so why should he delete it?

You can go to the OT forum and see people saying heinous things about politicians and celebrities daily.

I think one of the biggest issues we face here is that people forget this is a PUBLIC forum, and people with all sorts of differing viewpoints and personalities are expressing their opinions.

Ahh, S2.....

The only place I know where folks absolutely take a dump on a thread dedicated to the tragic death of a man (and several others).

RIP Kobe. I didn’t like Kobe, but can’t we have a thread where we ignore the stupid comments we don’t agree with and focus on the real point?

Kobe had a profound impact on the game and those that play(ed) it. Ultimately, that impacts the fans that watch and enjoy it. And for his faults, some allegedly gross, he was doing things to make the world a better place and was focused on leaving a positive legacy. Though I wasn’t a fan, his desire to be a positive, hardworking person and leave a positive legacy is a reminder of the type of person I want to be.

May we all aspire for the same.

Hey, it's a junior moderator! Neat-o!

The only place ? I'm pretty sure this is a common occurrence on the World Wide Web

Thanks for taking it literally and taking away from the general point. You only further the point, though. S2 is one of the most overly dramatic group of a-holes I’ve ever come across.

you must not be on the "blazer forum" facebook page....

It doesn't need to be "completely fine" to remain on this forum. It can be an opinion that a lot of people hate, it just can't break the rules. It can't be bigoted and it can't be a personal attack on another member of this forum. Denny's initial standards for this place weren't "delete any unpopular opinions," it was "delete as little as possible, aside from things that attack others personally or as a group"--I disagreed with him on a lot of things, but not that. If you think what MARIS or anyone else says is despicable, you can either ignore him or explain why you think his opinion is terrible (without attacking him personally). Just like real life, when someone says something you intensely disagree with but doesn't break any laws (or rules, if you're in a private establishment).

Ok, moving on.
