OT Kyrie Irving is certain that he is not an anti-semite; many others disagree

Yes, because Lillard stands as a stark contrast to Kyrie. Seeing this kind of behavior from a player who some claimed should have been on the NBA top-75 team ahead of Dame makes one naturally appreciate Dame all the more.
The hard part is now you have Reggie Miller starting the chant regarding "players being silent". As far as I know Lillard hasn't addressed it. It will be interesting to see how they respond to Reggie's comments.

I can see all of you talking about this idiot the first time he showed us all he was one.
Why continue to give him a platform?

When someone shows you who they are? Believe them.

Am I wrong to feel like the player silence on this is somewhat akin to police protecting their own?

My soapbox.......

Just another in a long line of examples of "social media" destroying society.
Everyone has their ugly faces in a device 20 hours/day.
We have lost the ability as a society to communicate. There are no checks and balances any more.
Accountability lasts until your next tweet. People can say, publicly, anything they want...Decency is no more the norm.

I go to the gym 5 days/week...Out of 100ish people I see, I am the ONLY one who does not cling to my cell phone like a child holding her teddy bear.
Go ask someone if they are done with their set, THEY CANNOT HEAR YOU because their attention is on the music coming from their precious phone to the ear buds that restrict them from hearing, or God forbid, communicating, with anyone. Ever.
I went into the sauna on Sunday...There were seven people in there, ALL SEVEN with their faces in their phone! In the sauna?? WTF!!! I hate it.
I slammed the door and left, and doubt, anyone even noticed.

Don Henley wrote back in the 1970's that "we are all just prisoners of our own device."
He had no clue what was coming.
Kyrie Irving, Donald Trump, Machine Gun Kelly, whoever...whatever...
Showing us all, the path we are on.
Sad.
Put your fucking phone down!!!!!!!!

After thinking about this a bit. I'm not sure I like the comparison. When I think about the police protecting their own, I'm reminded of cases like Abner Louima. Of course it's not always this severe, but thinking about the power dynamics, potential for physical harm, control over certain people/groups and corruption, it's not so close in my opinion. But, I understand why one would make the comparison. I just think we have to be careful about suggesting silence being consent or whatever. In the aftermath of George Floyd, Lillard made that song and said "F*ck you if you white and staying silent". I thought he was out of line for it.

Thank you for that thoughtful response--I definitely appreciate your perspective on this subject.

Is the issue cell phones? I guess I must be nobody because I don't fit the everybody referenced.

A lot of people overuse cell phones. They don't praise Hitler.
I post a lot from my desktop. I think it’s more a prisoner to your own devices thing.
I don’t do social media all day and night but I do check when I have a chance.
A bunch of social media issues could have less impact if people would interact a bit more. I have to agree with that.

I guess my point is, now they have the platform to "praise hitler" or attempt to overthrow the government, etc; etc;...
And sadly, that is often what it is used for.
Freedom of speech? Sure, but with freedoms comes responsibility, otherwise, we are just a bunch of selfish teenagers.
It is the eroding of "sense of decency/responsibility/accountability" I am howling at the moon over.
And yes, I do realize it is a losing battle.

You’ve got it all figured out. Neat.

I don't have internet on my phone. I sometimes forget where it is. I have never tweeted, nor posted on instagram. I truly don't know nor do I want to know what tik tok is.

What is a voice? Who hears it? If a camera man had not captured for his/her network....Colin Keap kneeling , would that voice have ever been heard? What do we want to hear?

This world is full of folks who live and purvey hate, dissent, and anger. Social media is just a megaphone for the message....but who is listening? Who wants to listen?

Sports is entertainment. It is not, nor should it be, a place to purvey one's religious, political, or social thoughts or beliefs. Get that shit out of there. I don't want to see it or hear it when I am watching sports. To clarify, I also don't want my favorite player to pontificate on his favorite cake recipe when performing an after game presser. That goes for the press. Stop asking questions that cannot be answered with sports answers. The slope we are slipping down in regards to high profile athletes opinions on non-sports matters is getting slipperier....and the descent is growing. End game is not going to be pretty.

Couldn't disagree more. This is the "shut up and dribble" that Fox pushed. They are citizens of this country, this world, and are entitled to their opinions. If people dislike the opinions espoused, they will let it be known. Like with endorsing anti semitism. But their opinions being a slippery slope? Nope. They're humans. Always have been.

Bravo! Great post my friend.

I would be absolutely crushed if he pulled some crap like Kyrie did. But Lillard would never do that. It's just not a worry with him. As a player and a person, Greatest Blazer Ever!
Few would... not being an embarassment/disgrace like Kyrie is a very low bar to clear.
