Actually didn't Chicago draft him?
Pretty sure they drafted him for Portland. I think they wanted Tyrus Thomas for less money.

I could be misrembering, but yes, either way, you're technically right.

LMA was part of a BIG3 that never was. Not The Man compared to BRoy. Then Oden got the attention. Then back to BRoy … then Lillard …

One negative of him was his reportedly being high maintenance. So when there was smoke of his leaving from some who knew him … but he wanted to be the best Blazer ever … but he wanted to get to free agency … but he wanted to be a Blazer … and then he looked at frigging Phoenix more than Portland???

Olshey screwed up. LMA went back and forth and did screw the Blazers a bit. Plenty of blame on this one.
He had game, and I would’ve been happy to see him return as a Blazer years ago. Years. It’s not what he wanted, so his Portland legacy is lesser than expected.
Lesser to Lucas and Rasheed. Around Buck. B.Grant. Cliff Robinson.
His skills were up there, his exit … on him.
I wanted to trade when he was putting up the 50pt games.

I never wanted him back.

We needed to upgrade from Aldridge to take the next step. Even if the player we received wasn't as talented, we needed a dawg.

we heard different things
The question I have for you is what did you hear from LaMarcus because in interviews after having played his last game for our team he said he was undecided and that Portland was still an option.

What did you hear that was different from that?

A year prior LMA simply wanted out. Instead of convincing another team to unload for him Olshey convinced him to half-heartedly want to stay. Becoming the "best Blazer ever" was clearly Neil in his ear.

The Blazers squeezed everything they could out of LaMarcus Aldridge. By the time he bailed out to San Antonio, he was half the man he used to be.
Totally disagree . He had some very good years in SA. He, to me , could have been the key roster piece next to Dame & CJ, to help get the Blazers to Finals. That Blazer team that got to the WCF could have been special with LA.

Yeah. They get Nurk and a decent SF and they are contending. Not a bunch different than LMA and Rolo. Probably better without Nurk. Just a decent mobile center and a solid defensive SF.

Neil deserves more blame for us getting nothing back than LaMarcus does but the fact is that he wasn't straight with us as fans and I doubt he was honest with the front office because the dude didn't ever have much of a backbone on the court and I could see him kind of being like that off the court too. I didn't like the way that he was obviously put off but passive aggressive about the fact that the team was becoming Dame's. That's just it, LaMarcus was just passive, his whole career he was an amazing talent that just went through the motions. I'm sure if Neil took the time to "look" and "listen" that it would have been clear that LaMarcus was leaving but I'm also sure that LaMarcus was pretty opaque about it.

So I'd be fine with never seeing either one of those guys at a Blazers event again.

Both these guys are retired. Don't the Blazers and Blazers fans have enough headaches without stewing over players long gone?

Hey, if we can bring back Dame, is it too much to ask to bring back Bill Walton?

Sheed has a better case to be in the HOF than LMA.
By far. Sheed carried two Blazers teams to the conference finals and won a title.

LMA never won a playoff series until Dame bailed him out.

Then in SAS LMA took a franchise that had contended for decades and got them to the lottery.

LMA would've been great as the 3rd best player on a healthy Roy/Oden trio. None of the three deserve the HOF. Sheed by far had a much better case.

And Sheed led the league in being an Idiot. That's got to be worth something. It's Hall of fame. He's a famous idiot.
