Nobody in this thread will help keep Dame in town. You better hope we trade all these picks for vet help.
What "vet help" do you think we could get with the 6th pick that would be worth the trade?Nobody in this thread will help keep Dame in town. You better hope we trade all these picks for vet help.
What a freaking blow this is to lose a major asset before we even start our summer.
i have been lukewarm on Grant from the beginning. But I had talked myself into trading for Grant with the NO pick, while using ours on a prospect.well...if the plan was to use both the 11th pick and the 21M TPE to get Grant, this might have been a blessing in disguise...? Kind of like when Roy Hibbert or Greg Monroe or Chandler Parsons turned down max offers from the Blazers. Saving the Blazers from themselves

The fact that that remains possibly off the table now is solace I suppose. But still hurts to lose probably the 2nd most valuable trade chip this soon. I had other targets like Randle who is on his way out. Siakam is killing his trade value right now and probably could be moved. Cam Johnson has long been on my list of targets. Etc etc. Now we don't have many avenues to land any of these guys IF they become available.
same. I'm seeing Barnes/Collins also mentioned. They're all in the same tier for me for the most part.Randall is the same as Grant for me....meh
depends on how their playoffs go, what happens with the Sarver investigation, and how they proceed with Ayton. They're obviously not in a $ crunch yet, but very soon will be. They might want to recoup assets now when his value has never been higher.Cam Johnson might be available by the trade deadline next season because of Sarver pinching pennies. I don't think he'd be available at the draft
way too much. Siakam's limitations are on full display in the playoffs. Think OG/Barnes have more trade value.Siakam? Would a S&T of Simons + Bledose + 6th pick be too high a price?

Id do that...salaries would need to workout with others.yeah, I think you're probably right
very well maybe be that something like Ant + Keegan Murray >> Siakam, even as early as next season
Also, my tier system for the draft is as follows:
1. Paolo
2. Jabari
3. Ivey
4. Chet
5. Murray
6-14 prolly all in the same boat. I'm going to disagree here. I would rate Davis and Mathurin at 6-7 as their own tier.
The valuation for the picks should be considered accordingly, and we might still be able to target the player we want in the draft at a later pick.
(i'm trying to spin this shit to rationalize Cronin's stupidity but it's really difficult).
yup, bottom line. we need to climb to top 4, then assess value of players available in the draft vs value we can trade back for.yeah, I think you're probably right

That's fine-- we'll see what shakes out come workout/combine time.I'm going to disagree here. I would rate Davis and Mathurin at 6-7 as their own tier.

This was nbadraft.net's mock on 4/21/2012, approx 2 months before the draft, and a month before the lottery.

Still lots to figure out and change.
Was going through some of these old mocks-- it's actually quite interesting.NBADraft.net's mocks have always been wacky.
I believe they essentially act as a big board at least until the lottery order is set. Not an actual mock of who they think will go whereNBADraft.net's mocks have always been wacky.

In april of 2012, Draftexpress had Dame going 13th with guys like Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones going top 10.
Davis, Drummond, Sullinger, and Jones. 4 respected college big men who never reached their predicted value in the NBA because of physical issues. I would love to see a breakdown for the last 25-30 years of drafts and see how many top 10 rated bigs have fallen short of expectations due to their bodies not standing up to the demands of the NBA. My wild-ass guess is that it would be disturbingly high.
I don't think it's necessarily White or American Born. I think the truly damning point is the CENTER. These all guys who can play C who have been drafted in the lottery the past ten years. I've bolded the guys who AREN'T busts (imo, ymmv). 10 out of 30 guys selected were either worthy of the high draft selection or out-performed it. That's a pretty paltry number. Obviously still some younigns on this list who could develop, but this is a snapshot.
What I notice is the extremely HIGH variance.
The 2016 draft especially had some colossal busts. Bender's skillset is fairly comparable to Holmgren's, but he was also 30 lbs heavier than Chet coming in to the draft.
2012:
Anthony Davis
Meyers Leonard
John Henson
2013:
Cody Zeller
Alex Len
Nerlens Noel
Steven Adams
Kelly Olynyk
2014:
Joel Embiid
2015:
Karl-Anthony Towns
Jahlil Okafor
Wiley Cauley-Stein
Frank Kaminsky
Myles Turner
2016:
Dragan Bender
Marquese Chriss
Jakob Poeltl
Thon Maker
Domantas Sabonis
Georgios Papagiannis
2017:
Zach Collins
Bam Adebayo
2018:
DeAndre Ayton
Marvin Bagley
Mo Bamba
Wendell Carter Jr.
2019:
Jaxon Hayes
2020:
James Wiseman
Onyeka Okongwu
2021:
Evan Mobley
In conclusion.... don't draft Centers in the lottery. I wanna see if we can do a similar analysis for other positions.

I probably would have preferred Jarred Sullinger over Meyers Leonard.
Karl-Anthony Towns if we could get him. What "vet help" do you think we could get with the 6th pick that would be worth the trade?
I would be surprised if Koloko lasted until 36th.Both Herb Jones and Jose Alvarado were conference defensive players of the year in their last season in college. To copy the Pelicans playbook, maybe take Christian Koloko with the 36th pick. Koloko was the PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year this season.
