Lottery pick: #6, 2nd Rnd Picks: #36, and #57

At #6 I'd see if Holmgren, or Banchero by some miracle were still available. If not I'd have to consider Keegan Murray although he's really SF size not PF size at the #6 pick spot.

At #11 based on who I think might be available I'd be ecstatic to get Duren, but would settle for Williams and even consider guys like Jovic and perhaps even Sharpe if he was there just due to upside.

I of course want to see us in the top 3 and luck into Jabari Smith, but if we pick at 6 and 11 my preference would be the above.

The ideal draft would be Jabari Smith with our pick and Jalen Duren with the Pel's pick. Get two front-court players on cheap contracts as those are usually the most expensive non-max guys to get, big men. They are also positions of need for us. I'm totally fine with trading Nurk if we had Smith and Duren coming in. I sure as heck don't want to overpay for Nurk, he's just not reliable enough either in production or health.

6’ 9” - 6’ 10” athletic freak with a 7’ 2” wingspan all day long

Is there someone specific you are referring to, or is that just your prototypical size/athleticism you are looking for?

Travis Outlaw.

Ugh man trigger warning. Can you imagine if you could put Dame's brain into Outlaw's body (you know with Outlaw say at 27 years old). That guy had all the athletic talent in the WORLD, but he used to drive me nuts like almost no other. I guess out of bounds Jarret Jack was even worse but DAMN.

Blazer fan starts to feel a little bit of hope.
Looks at actual lotto odds.
Aaaaand it's gone.
Combined 1 in 3 chance of getting into top 4 that seems pretty decent. 1/10 (close to it) of getting the #1 overall, not bad at all! We really only need a top 2 pick to come close to ensuring we get Smith and there is a close to 20% chance of that. Again, not bad at all.

Greg Brown gives me the same vibes, but he's still only 20.

If the Blazers have a chance to draft Jaden Ivey at #3 (assuming we move up) or at #6, would you keep or trade Dame? This kid (Ivey) seriously looks like the next Ja Morant.
I don't think the Blazers would pick Jaden Ivey at #3 , but if they did, Ivey is a shooting guard right now, so he doesn't duplicate what Lillard does. They could keep all the guards for now and see how Ivey develops. If it looks like he's going to be a star, they could trade Lillard or Simons.

1. IMHO best case: Portland selects Jabari Smith at #1 and Nikola Jovic with the Pelican pick. [If Sharpe is at the Pelican pick, I'd understand taking the leap.]
2. Holmgren on the Blazers? Yes. In a word.
3. Centers in the lottery? No. Or almost no.
4. If Smith is gone and Ivey is BPA? Tough call. If Ivey is alone in a different Tier, okay. If not, need comes into it ... Forwards.

It's what masai has been stocking up on in Toronto. Wish we ever tried that route over ...whatever the hell it is Neil was trying. Signing guys who were top HS prospects.

I had the impression Olshey was a little too interested in trying to look clever. EG signing a former lotto pick that had already been recognized as a flop. If they failed, it was expected. If he hit the million to one shot and they became useful - he got the bragging rights. Sadly, I see the same tendency with our current guy. (Winslow, K Johnson)

NO up by 17 and that 2nd pick is sliping away. The basketball gawds have cursed us. (I believe we are still being punished for picking Oden over KD)

The Pels had a better record than the Spurs. The Clips have the better record than the Pels by six games. I feel like we should still plan on having that pick but it's definitely not a given, which fucking sucks.

How in the fuck does Freeman make any sense? If Joe got fleeced... it's a bad fucking look!!!!!

Seriously Joe seems like a nice enough guy... actually he seems way too nice because CJ said he let CJ pick the team he went to which is fucking idiotic and that's being unfair to idiots. That being said, I wish him and almost every other person who carries Olshey's stink was gone or is gone when all of the dust settles but at the very least let's get someone in here after that atrocious trade deadline who is a bigger name than Cronin, that can be made President of Basketball Operations and make the final say on the deals that get recommended to the Vulcans... for fuck's sake.

Maybe they get a new guy in when the dust settles.

That way a new quality Gm can come in with a fresh blank slate of Dame, Ant, tons of cap space, 20M trade exception, and 2 lottery picks (hopefully clips win)

That’s a very enticing job to take on. Cronin was just the fall guy to get us there

Could be. I find it funny that people freak out when CJ has a good game. The Dude can score. Sure, maybe we could have traded him for another 6'2" player.

I've seen no evidence that a player we actually wanted going forward was available... If you think Cronin didn't check for a long 2-way wing starter from every other team in the league you're crazy.

Those guys weren't available in exchange for CJ.

That’s the only theory

That’s my sense too. I think there’s no doubt Cronin could have gotten more value for CJ, Nance, RoCo and Powell, but I think the value would have come in terms of other guys with their own limitations that don’t fit Cronin’s vision of what he wants to do with the roster. The trades dumped solid players for more flexibility to pursue the guys he and Chauncey want. Can they pull it off? I’m not sure at all. They’re either playing chess while the rest of us fumble with checkers, or they don’t even know how to play checkers at all.

The "ton of cap space" assumes we let Ant, Nurk, And Hart all walk. If we re-sign them, the estimate is around $7 mil in cap space. What difference maker is going to sign for that? Even if we had cap space, no big star will ever sign in Portland. Money alone does not determine who is or isn't a player in FA.

Besides, Cronin is a bean-counter, not a basketball guy, and I strongly suspect that is exactly what the Seattle mafia wants. I can see them following the model of the Reds and A's in MLB.

a lot of overreaction to the Pels game

some of the pro-CJ guys should take a serious look at the last 15 playoff games CJ played for Portland.

and fuck Jaynes for continuing to nuthug Olshey

Then call me crazy, because I still believe his marching orders from Seattle were that on court value was NOT a priority.

again...forget about cap-space. Blazers won't have any

what they will finally have that they haven't had since olshey's idiotic 2016 spending spree is some cap-flexibility, and that's important. At least it would be important in the hands of a good GM. Not sure that's Cronin; he might have just been ordered to be a hatchet man by Seattle

I'm not sure what you consider an over-reaction? CJ is neither a stud nor a dud. He is simply a good, useful player. Good enough that it destroys the value of the NO draft pick - which was far and away the best (potential) asset we got in the deal.

And yes, Jaynes is a clueless bozo! This was the guy who advocated trading Clyde for Harold Minor. The fact that even he can see this was a bad deal speaks volumes.

I still wish we had gotten Simmons and I’m glad CJ is showing Morey what he could’ve had in Philly. Simmons would’ve been great. He’s hurt so he would’ve helped the tank and then next year, we’d be awesome.

The Clippers have the better team and ex-Blazers, too. I have no concerns about them taking care of business. The pick I'm thinking about is the Blazers. The Pelican pick is a bonus useful for something a helluva lot better than Meyers Leonard as a draftee and in trade. I am glad CJ is gone. Looking forward to the draft lottery, the draft and next year.
