Love gets in over Aldridge

JJ Hickson was robbed. His team has an even worse record.

Can we please not make this a racial issue.

Love is putting up stats that NO ONE has put up in 28 years.

This is exactly right. Regardless of their record, his personality, his race, his defense or his damn religion, he is putting up historic numbers. He deserves to be in the game over Aldridge.

ZBO was not nearly as statistically dominant as Love.

I'm not going to bother arguing this any further. I would have been fine with Aldridge or Love. There's no point getting sour over something that doesn't even matter.

The point is Stern is full of shit. He only cares about marketing. I said weeks ago that LMA only chance was the coaches. Stern's choice was obvious.

It's a racial issue, at least to me. Love plays on a team that has been historically bad since he joined it. His stats have gone up, and the team has gotten worse. That's not a "star" to me.

No. If a black guy recorded a 30/30 game, averaged 20/15 and was about to break the consecutive games with a double-double streak I think he'd get voted in as well. Regardless of how shitty his teammates and his coach are.

I don't know if this is a racial issue, but look at who Stern picked last year as injury replacement players for the All-Star game:
David Lee in place of the injured Iverson.
Kaman in place of Roy.

And who gets in this year by Stern's vote: Kevin Love.

So there is some basis/justification on this being a race issue. But who the hell knows how Stern picks 'em?

The all star and his team just lost to an injury ravaged Raptor team by double digits. Toronto came into this game with a 13 game losing streak.

Fantastic post. Repped, and I'm not backing down from race playing a factor in Kevin Love being picked to the AS team.

But Love had 20/15!

Of course, Amir Johnson had 19/12 (on 10 shots) with 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and 0 turnovers, but that ain't Love's fault! Of course, Bargnani had 30 points as well.

Ten years from now, Love's season might still be memorable. Aldridge's will not.

Love is doing things that few other players are able to do, and I think that he deserves it.

Randolph arguably deserves it just as much as Love and Aldridge, too... the West is just stacked at the 4.

Ed O.

Memorable in which way? Winning 19 games? I honestly didn't know that Moses Malone was the last 20/15 player until this season. What I did remember about Malone's 20/15 season is his team won 65 games and an NBA title, and Moses was the NBA MVP.

Really though, I had no idea he was the last to go 20/15 until the S2 Fantasy Squad started making a big deal of it this year.

I wonder if Love will average more RPG than his team gets in wins. Probably not, but PPG vs. Wins might be a good bet right now.

Don't watch much NBA Gametime or Sportcenter much, eh?

Did you notice the "until this season" portion you didn't bold?

You and the rest of the Fantasy Squad now act like it's some big deal, yet nobody even knew about it until this season.

Love played great tonight, though. Just ask Amir Johnson. :)

Amir Johnson has a PER of 18.3

Hardly a scrub.

Monta Ellis didn't make it last year (over Roy) despite having better #'s. Why?

his team sucked. Love's team sucks (and since LaMarcus became the main guy on offense, his #'s are more impressive than his seasonal averages).

Roy was better than Monta last year. He scored less, yeah, but he rebounded more, turned the ball over nearly half as much, and was a hell of a lot more efficient doing it in less minutes, nonetheless.

19 and 12 is MVP-like?

I'm sure its Love's fault that he had 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks, too.

19/12/6/3/2 on 10 shots is MVP-like.

Wonder why Johnson had such a great game, and why his team ended an 11-game losing streak? Hmm...

Zach Randolph: 20/13 and a 27-24 team record. No brainer.

Zach's playing alongside a max player in Rudy Gay.

LMA is carrying Portland with guards who can't shoot and a center who can't jump.

If you were a GM, who would you pick to be your starting Power Forward vs. the two?

Love.

It's easy to find scorers. Guys who play bigger than their size, while grabbing a shitload of rebounds. But that's completely besides the point.

Love might be the worst defensive PF in the NBA. Ask Amir Johnson...

the 6/3/2 part of that line were all Love's fault... :biglaugh:

I'm sure Love didn't put a body on him while he grabbed those 12 rebounds as well....

Why all the outrage? I love what Aldridge has done the past 25 games, or so. But here's a simple breakdown:

Kevin Love - 24.6 PER, 7.8 Win Shares

LaMarcus Aldridge - 20.8 PER, 6.0 Win Shares

Love may become the first player in NBA history with more Win Shares than his team actually wins.

WS is such a hilarious stat. andalusian detailed the who Love/LMA debate the other night. There is no doubt which player is more important for their team's oncourt success.

But, Love makes 3 point shots and gets garbage points off of rebounds at an amazing rate. It's really helping his team out, isn't it?

He's not one of the best defenders, but it's not like Aldridge is one of the best. He's better, but not marginally better on D.

I also 'love' that thinking LMA is a better player, and more worthy of an All-Star slot than Love, is a minority position to take on a Blazer forum.

Um, OK. Ask Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, and Tim Duncan if LMA is a good post defender.

Poor Blake was rendered useless in the Clipper offense against LMA other than garbage points, as was Duncan the last time LMA torched him for 40.

Like I said ... for some reason coaches/scouts don't have great respect for Love's game.

John Hollinger's twitter

No one cares if you collect 6 rebounds in the final 5 minutes of a game when you're losing by 15+. Coaches/scouts see this.

Two stats that you are notorious for bringing up. Now they're hilarious?
