Malcolm Brogdon trade ideas

I actually disagree. If Ant finishes the season top 15 in scoring and proves he can do it for a full season his value could be higher. We need to trade him for a starting level piece. Let's go into the draft and see where we land and make decisions from there. Again, if you wanted Ausar Thompson and additional pieces, I think you could absolutely get them from Detroit which would be super attractive.

Ant will finish the year at 28+/PPG with Dame-like efficiency at less than half the cost and 10 years younger. He's made himself into an extremely valuable trade piece. I think certain teams regret not taking our Ant/#3 package last year, and those proposals were for All-NBA caliber players.

I agree we need real talent AND lottery picks in exchange for Ant. There's no package I can think of where Ausar makes sense. That would be a disaster if we didn't also get Duren or a 3rd team involved to add a young player ready to contribute. I wish we were a team that could take Ausar, but it's the same reason we shouldn't select Ryan Dunn this year: lack of a supporting cast. I don't want to lose 30 games in a row lol.

Spurs don't really make sense for Brogdon. I get wanting a point guard, but they're also tanking.
Brogdan isn't going to affect their tanking. Pop apparently really wants him to give them what White gave them moving forward but most of all to set up Wemby for success as soon as they can...they were trying to get him before we traded for him they say. I think Pop probably tanks organically and not strategically ... I'd say he's building the team he wants moving forward and if that's having a 31 year old vet running the offense, I totally understand him going after that. I'm just not sure the package is one we're going to accept because we don't have a lot of roster spot flexibility to take on 2 players for 1.

It'was a news blip on MSN's homepage....I don't cut and paste many links here but if I read something interesting I'll relay it. Often these are SB nation articles. The title of the article was something about pairing Brogdan with Wembanyama. I posted everything the article said here already in short form.
If it's coming from SB Nation, then it's worse than rubbish. There's no substance to the rumor.

That is why I like to see the links to the sources. To determine if it's originating from someone who has connections and might have a legitimate source.... or if it is from someone sitting in their mom's basement making stuff up.

Especially now days, complete garbage ideas gets reported as 'rumors'.

I don't know if that's the source but whatever. It's that time of year..if you don't value the rumors or convo, just don't engage it...I think it's interesting but it's always just speculation. To me garbage is wasting time arguing about speculation. It could be a nothing burger but you don't know that anymore than I do. I'm just a fan so I'm not "reporting" breaking news by any stretch. Personally I think there are better deals out there for Brogdan

is there anything about Clowney and Whitehead that makes them better than any future picks Portland might get for Grant & Brogdon? Over 30 games into the season and those two have combined for 4 games & 51 minutes. As far as I can tell (haven't looked hard), Clowney hasn't had any serious injury; he's just racking up DNP-CD's. Whitehead is 19 years old and has already had 2 foot surgeries

at this point, I'd rather have picks than either of those guys. But, the Nets seem on a slow train to purgatory, so I'm not seeing them giving up picks for two players like Brogdon and Grant, who won't alter trajectory, much, or move a needle

Both Missi and Bradshaw are better prospects than Clowney IMO. Absolutely, we could just draft one of them and take a different looking Brogdon package. Whitehead does nothing for me, either.

I want a real rim runner who sets good screens and rolls to the basket for dunks, blocks shots, good motor and rebounder. Lets draft him. DFS? We could get a FRP for him, I'd bet. Him and picks I could do.

A lot of them are just ideas that are being floated and not even actual rumors.

I like these two guys but I don't see them as playing the same position as Clowney. They both seem more like centers to me. Clowney gives us length and perimeter D at forward

I value rumors. I also value conversation. That's why I spend an unhealthy amount of time here.... but there is a clear difference between the two.

If people will provide a source on where they get the information, then it's much easier for others to determine how much credence to give it. Sources matter a lot.

There is so much information out there, that it is impossible to keep track of where it comes from.

Even your initial message you said, "Today I read the Spurs are targeting Brogdan and offering McDermott, Devontae Graham and 26 first round pick."
Your statement sounds like there is substance there, but in reality there is none. Just some guy who threw out an idea. More appropriately, you could say, "Today I read an idea where the Spurs are targeting Brogdan and offering McDermott, Devontae Graham and 26 first round pick.

Agreed.
In the digital age of the game 'telephone' - the message gets blurred and distorted a LOT.
That is why it's so nice when people provide links to where they get the information...

you can interpret my post anyway you like....I've added disclaimers that do what you're trying to promote here already ...my advice is if you need sources and links, understand that when I have my coffee and read the news I occasionally mention something I read without saving it or pasting it or rewording it....it's not as complicated as you make it out to be. I'm not a journalist nor editorialist so I have no burden of proof....it's purely conversational so let's not make it sound like I'm paid to research the front page news and cite my sources over coffee. In this case it's probably better if I just avoid posting about these topics when they pop up at all. look at it as food for thought, not a Woj breaking story

Your initial post did not provide any disclaimers... and was written in a way where you were making a statement of fact.
That suggestion is so far out there, that it didn't make any logical sense to me -> hence why I wanted to know where it was coming from.

Even if you can state where you read it, it helps everyone on the forums evaluate the trustworthiness of the report.

After you stated it was SB Nation, I was able to find and look up the 'article'. I get it -> they promote it and write it like there's actual information here.
https://nbaanalysis.net/2023/12/28/...rail-blazers-malcolm-brogdon-bold-proposal-2/

But here is the author's write up it says:
When it comes to exploring the endless possibilities of NBA trades, there's no one quite like James Piercey. With a keen eye for player dynamics, salary cap intricacies, and a knack for discovering uncharted trade territory, James has risen to prominence as the preeminent expert in the realm of hypothetical NBA trades.
AKA -> He pulls all the ideas out of his rectum.

Because here's the deal, if there WAS an actual rumor, it would come from a reputable source and it would get posted here or on Reddit.

yeah.I posted the disclaimers after I realized you were putting way too much importance on what was an editorial. I don't know who wrote it but you're welcome to fact check anything..personally I don't need that affirmation to talk about possibilities but hey.....as long as you understand it's all good. Yesterday there was one about Grant and Indiana that I mentioned as well but I don't pretend to be a source about any of the speculations. I've never visited Reddit and I don't follow Woj or Shams or any of the talking heads in the NBA loop. The algorithms definitely know what I read though so I get a lot of editorials in my feed daily. The Blazers will make trades about one minute before the deadline if they follow any pattern.

Thanks.
I would have never found that on my own.

I'm actually shocked at how poor that content is.
Here is another 'article' from that same 'author' [Hiptoro ***edit*** maybe Hiptoro is just an aggregator of made-up $#!T trades?], that is claiming that Toronto is going to be trading OG to Miami.... It appears that 'article' was posted today. Never mind that OG was traded to the Knicks 5-days ago...

Oh - now I see that Portland is going to trade Grant to the Warriors for Wiggins and Moody:

If you enjoy that level of analysis, that's your prerogative. More power to you.

only about a month till the trade deadline so the rumor mill should be heating up. Reading rumors might be more fun than watching the Blazer offense

The most mentally tough guys in the league go through challenges and have to adjust with different teams in different roles while persevering regardless,” Malcolm Brogdon explained to HoopsHype. “My goal is to persevere no matter what role I’m put in.” “At times, it’s been tough, but there’s something very gratifying about coming to a team where your voice and leadership is really valued and you play a different role,” Brogdon told HoopsHype. “I’m embracing that role. I enjoy playing with these young guys. They’re hungry and want to win. They’re incredibly coachable. More than anything, I enjoy being under Chauncey’s wing and being coached by him. I have the most respect for him. He’s a guy I’d run through a wall for.”

I’m still in favor of this.

His on-ball defense is his calling card right now.

The potential is there. He’d be a solid long-term second unit addition.
If we're invested in Scoot, we HAVE to have our other guards be plus shooters. Is he?

6'4.0” barefoot, 6'5.25” in shoes, , 209.8 lbs, 6'8.0” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine

is he better than Rupert? He sure does not have much length.

38% from 3.
My fear is, defense is his calling card, he's coached by Thibs, and Thibs sounds like he doesn't like him.

I bet Thibs would like this:

Obviously the ex-Raptors can't be traded, but you can replace them with JOSH HART and it works, and he probably would get diminished PT anyway if the Knicks got Brogdon and Grant, but I doubt he'd be happy to come back to an even crappier Blazers team than he left...

Other downside is that we could add Robinson to our own Timelord to the collection of always-injured-centers. But the Knicks don't have a great range of tradeable contracts.

Bleacher report suggested Brogdan to the Bulls for Ball, Julian Phillps and Portland pick back. I know nothing about Phillips. Ball I think is done and I know the pick messes a lot up with not being able to trade other picks, but are the Blazers really going to be in the play offs anytime soon? I would guess there are better trades to be had.

I'd do that trade!

we don’t need to give up an asset to get our pick back right now, it’s not going to convey for 2-3 years at the minimum, if ever

It's not about NEED.

It's about getting the best pick back that is available. Think of it as a guaranteed pick in the 15-20 range in 2026. That sure as hell beats any non-lotto pick in 2024.

Phillips has an intriguing profile.... but he really hasn't shown much thus far (in college or in the NBA). He's really not that good of a shooter.
