Malcolm Brogdon trade ideas

im not sure if Ant holds more value to other teams than Malcom. Ant is a lot of isolation and Brogdon seems to be able to play within a system more. Makes less mistakes and just seems more rounded overall. If Malcom keeps his game up like he has, I could see getting a better return than we could for Ant.
all depends on the trade partner's needs though.

Agree. Often teams who need help at the deadline need a vet to help compete that year in the playoffs. I can see those teams offering more for Malcolm. Ant on the other hand might have more value this summer.

Or way more value right now to a team like Orlando who wants to be more competitive and wants a guy who can grow with their roster.

TRADE THEM ALL (Jerami, Malcolm, Ant, Tisse and Deandre)

I think that's probably true generically. More teams would have interest in Brogdon than in Ant. A wider market might mean a better chance at a decent return

Ant probably has a much narrower market, but he also might fetch back a better asset(s) than Brogdon. Teams that need some back court offense and can run Ant at PG because they have enough play-making at other positions to offset Ant's questionable PG skills. Teams that are good enough at defense but below average offensively meaning they could offset Ant's bad defense by improving their offense. That's always been why Orlando has seemed like a solid destination for Ant. They are strong on defense and weak on offense. They have good length in the rotation. And they have poorly balanced firepower between the front court and back court. I don't see many other teams beside Orlando that would have enough interest in Ant to make good offers

Seeing that Miami got Rozier, who is younger than Brogdon and having a career year for Lowry and proteced 27 FRP. Hard to see that Portland could get more than that or even match it. Rozier stats all across the board also better than Simons. Is this the value of an undersized combo guard? His defensive stats not good this year but in the past much better than Simons,

Malcolm's per 36 numbers are better than Rozier's in assists and assist to turnover, he's a way more effective three point shooter and he rebounds at a higher rate. So no Terry's stats aren't even better than Malcolm's let alone across the board. Also Malcolm is in his eighth year in the league and Terry is in his ninth. I understand that Rozier is younger by one year and four months but come on with that.

Fans always overvalue their team's players. Take what you think a Blazer is worth and cut it in half right away. That is a more realistic starting point.

But do they have enough assets to give up and still have improved their team?
I’m asking. I know nothing about them other than they have Banchero.
I do know, what a team needs to improve can often clash with the assets they would need to release in order to get said player that could improve them.

Orlando has worlds of future FRPs way more than we could hope to get for Ant. They also have expiring contracts and Fultz. They have young guys like Black or Howard that they might include in the trade just because Ant gives them production in areas those guys can't. They have a lot of assets that aren't necessarily the guys who are contributing to wins right now along with draft assets.

The idea that we get a guy like Franz or even get WCJ along with picks doesn't make much sense to me because those guys are core pieces of what they would in theory be hoping to add Ant to.

they have Wendall Carter Jr. He's an Ant-level player IMO. He's a C/PF who is mostly thye starter but they have Moritz Wagner, Gogo Bitadze, and Issac as bigs. They'd need to add salary; Gary Harris looks like a likely candidate to make a legal trade while keeping both teams below the tax line

I doubt that Orlando would add a first, even a protected one to the trade, but maybe?

he said Rozier was "better across the board" than Ant, not Brogdon

Well Ant still has him on free throws (both percent and productivity) and three point shots in the same way. Ant is also 5 years younger which is a big deal when their numbers are actually really close on offense.

Do you see a point in moving Ant in a scenario like that if we don’t get a first back?

I think Ant, personally has way more value than WCJ in a straight up trade.
The beauty of posts like that, however, is the poster can always claim to be somewhat right in their valuation of Simons. If Simons is not traded at the deadline, as we've seen this past offseason, many will claim that "there just wasn't the market" for him, without any regard for whether Portland was looking for a market for him or not. If he's not moved for 2 1sts at any moment, one can always claim that they're right, and he's obviously not worth anywhere near that.

Rumor mill today says Ime is really interested in reuniting with Brogdan in Houston...there's the Thompson twin and you'd have to take on salary somewhere with all our rookies. Not sure how close we'd be to the minimum salary you can carry if we shed Malcom's money.

send him to gulag for all i care

just get him off this team

You won't get Amen but maybe Tari Eason? And a pick?

I would love Eason, but I doubt they'd move him for Brogdon. Definitely don't think we'd get a pick as well. But I'd be happy with Eason(And $ to match) for Brogdon.

Brogdon for Tari (and salary filler?)
Sign me up...

Brogdon for Tari + Landale + Oladipo

You are not getting Tari. Lol. Brogdon's value is a 2024 first. I'm hoping Cronin holds out for a protected non 2024 first but we'll see.

They have so many 3/4s. Amen, Whitmore (who has been playing well), Eason, Jabari Smith, and more. The problem with taking Eason is also having to develop Jabari, Kris Murray and Rupert. AND you have multiple picks in the next draft that I'm sure one will be a 3/4.

Since you have decided to nitpick, I will point out that I never said Rozier's numbers across the board were better than Brogdon. I said they were better than Simons'. As for Brogdon vs Rozier, I still think Brogdon has about the same value. Rebounds (identical per 36 this year) and assists per 36 almost identcal. Rozier a little worst on turnovers but a little higher on efg%. Also I think a year and four moths make a difference at their age.
I would probably prefer Brogdon if I had to pick because he is taller and probably has better leadership skills, but I am not getting up my hopes for a big return.

not sure...probably not, but would kind of hinge on other moves. Carter is a front court player and if Ant is moved it needs to be for a front court player IMO, preferably a wing. Carter has mostly played C and I don't think Portland needs another C unless they make substantial changes to the roster

if you use the Rozier trade as a loose template, and that seems fair, Rozier was worth a 1st and an expiring contract for a player turning 38 in a couple of months. So, by that standard Ant would be worth something similar. Carter would replace the first in that gauge.

I feel like there's no chance of getting a prospect of Amen's caliber for Brogdon. But if they're interested in something like Brogdon + the GSW pick for Amen, I do immediately. Amen would be the #1 pick in this year's draft.

Shoot, I'd take Cam Whitmore straight up for Brogdon and be very happy about it.

that's what was missing in the Norm and CJ trades. The Blazers didn't get a young active prospect back in trade. Only picks to get Jerami, and a major salary shedding compilation. Happy to get Keon and Winslow?? Yaaa, how'd that work out?

At least with the Lillard/Nurkic/Little trades the Blazers got Camara. Trading good players solely for future draft picks is a good way to get stuck in the ditch.

Slow day for Hoops Hype?

"It would take at least a 1st round pick" Was this ever in doubt?

Scotto: For Malcolm Brogdon, a lot of executives around the league think it would take at least a first-round pick to get him from Portland. I spoke with Brogdon recently and wrote about it on HoopsHype. He mentioned enjoying his role on the one hand being valued for his leadership, but it’s definitely been a challenge with the young guys because their emphasis is on the development of Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Anfernee Simons.

This makes sense to me but you never can tell with Daryl Morey. (I doubt many on this board would think we get enough for our guys, which is kind of an indicator that it's realistic.)

This trade must be realistic too then...

It's really not much, for sure... but I think Grant's contract is a negative, so getting out from under it is a positive in and of itself.
