Malcolm Brogdon trade ideas

I believe that we want Orlando (and other teams) to think there is a big enough need to give us what we want, but my guess is our best bet will be teams who become "desperate enough" to pull the trigger. Maybe Orlando will become that team if they have a key injury to one of their PGs.....but right now I don't see it.
To be fair, one of Gradey or Precious + Trent doesn’t scream desperation either. Not at all actually.

You may not like Gradey, (and you may be right about him) but that doesn't mean they don't. Trading last year's lottery pick is a big deal to most teams.

Miami still makes the most sense. They need a point guard. They're 7th in the East. The window is closing on Jimmy.

We could probably get Lowry/Jovic/2028 pick out of them. Maybe both their picks if they're desperate enough. I doubt it though. An unprotected 2028 pick is decent value for MB. I'm not sold on Jovic, but he's a guy that could be developed. Lowry steps in as the mentor for Scoot.

I doubt Miami would ever make that trade for Brogdon

Who else are they going to get? Lowry is washed, Jovic is either a massive project or a bust, and the pick could end up being terrible. I'm just not seeing a lot of options for Brogdon.

Who realistically needs a point guard right now?

Sixers could use another guard.
Heat
Nets
Raptors?
Thunder?
Lakers?
Pelicans?
Suns - they have nothing to trade
Jazz - but it seems like they're tanking
Spurs

Who of that list could use a 30 year old vet point guard?
Sixers
Heat
Nets
Lakers?
Pelicans?
Thunder?

Who is on a tight timeline?
Sixers
Heat
Lakers
Pelicans?

So who makes sense?
Sixers have some draft capital but I think they're looking for bigger game than Brogdon.
Heat make a lot of sense.
Lakers?
Pelicans have a window simply because their guys can never stay healthy. If they're all healthy at the same time, this would be a time to make a run.

What makes you think Lowry is washed?
He definitely is a step slower, but in the games Ive seen - he's still surprisingly effective.

Looking at advanced statistics, an argument can be made that Lowry is having a better season than Brogdon... they are at least close enough to blow up the underlying assumption of your trade scenario.

I wonder if OKC really would be interested. They've got FRP's for days.

Lowry would be a great pickup for Scoot's mentorship and a solid backup PG. He's also very close with Chauncey. Jovic is whatever. If you can't develop and outperform in that system then IDK about him as an asset. The pick would probably be early 20's.

i dunno if Cronin will ever take the Heat off mute, but how about Brogdon & R.Williams for Lowry's expiring + pick(s) + young player ? (Jovic, O.Rob)

basically revisit the Dame trade with a bit less to offer, and leave Tyler Herro out

R Williams has negative trade value especially to a luxury tax team so this part of the deal makes no sense.

I didn't look at salaries, just spitballing. Figured a sign and waive tax credit sumthin' rather with R.Williams. I'm the least skilled salary cap guru in this forum.

I think this would be a pretty good get for the Blazers. Trend would just be an expiring contract to make it work. Precious could start at PF for us and allow us to move Grant over to SF. He's an UFA this coming year as well, so it would be a trial. Might be able to get a 1st out of Toronto as well due to Precious being an expiring and Brogdon having another year. But I think this is the sort of thing we should get for Brogdon, a young forward.

No 1st, no thanks. We need to stop with the GT thing. His dad came out after the Toronto saying his son was DEPRESSED in Portland. Fans like to pretend like its more than a 9-5 for some of these guys. Sure, the best players are guys who take the game seriously, much like a regular joe schmoe would work hard in a company to move up.

Some are happy doing the bare minimum. Some just care about the work environment. I mean, you can ignore the whole GT being depressed thing if you want, but GT is not coming here. You can make this trade sound more reasonable by moving GT to another team, but this outline as presently constructed will not work.

Trent would just be a filler to make the salaries work. He's an expiring, so he can pout on the bench for the rest of the year. The actual target of the trade for the Blazers would be Precious.

Meh... a better target is needed.

Maybe something like this:

Raptors:
Trent + Flynn
for
Brogdon

Lakers
Rui
for
Trent

Wolves
Miller
for
Flynn + 2nd

Portland
Brogdon + 2nd
for
Rui + Miller

Meh, don't see what those two bring to the table. Precious can fill the role we hoped Robert Williams would play. He's a great defender/rebounder.

I have been thinking about this option as well. Trent can be traded or cut...he is not the target. I would rather have
Precious than a future late 1st. Now if someone offers a better forward than that then great, but I am not sure someone will
and we could use a PF with more size. (He is 243lbs)

'Lots Of Buyers, Few Sellers' Expected At 2024 NBA Trade Deadline
DEC 27, 2023 3:06 PM

The 2024 NBA trade deadline is not currently expected to have a considerable amount of activity, nor the big name players such as last season when both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were traded.

"Lots of buyers, few sellers," wrote Adrian Wojnarowski on Threads when asked what he anticipates for the trade deadline.

"Part of that is the Play-In Tournament, which has kept more teams trying to reach the postseason instead of dropping down into the lottery. Also, this isn't considered a strong draft class the very top, so there's even less motivation to trade a postseason berth versus a few extra ping-pong balls in the lottery. There will be trades. There will be sellers. But the asking price is going to be high from the really bad teams to move assets --- so that [it] slows down."

The Toronto Raptors are a team who could become significant sellers at the deadline due to the impending free agencies of OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam, but Wojnarowski reported that "Toronto just isn't there yet on those decisions."

Good. Maybe we can get a couple picks for Malcolm.

Knicks need another guard after trading Quickley.

Malcolm for Fournier and a couple picks?

I can't see them trading one 31-year-old guard for another 31-year-old guard and giving us 2 picks.
They also have Brunson, Hart, DiVincenzo, Grimes, and Flynn.

Knick fans are extremely concerned about giving up Quickley. Fournier has been garbage. Beyond garbage. They have one more year on his contract. The price is fair. Fournier for filler and two picks. One pick for taking Fournier.

They have a team option for next year, so essentially Fourier is an ending contract. The price might be fair but I think the only way we get two first-round picks for Brogdon is to a team who needs a starting PG.

Like pinwheel said, they have 4 guards in Brunson, Hart, divincenzo, and grimes. I highly doubt they'd give a pick for brogdon. Robinson just went down for the year. If they make another deal, it's likely for a C.

Fournier is basically expiring. The second year on his contract is either a team option or non-guaranteed.

Fournier + Robinson + Detroits LP 1st
for
Ayton

Knicks get a starting C. Portland plays their GLeague C this year & clears Ayton's salary.

Brogdon netting Portland TWO (!) firsts would be absolutely shocking.

I could see Grant fetching two (Sacramento?) but not Brogdon. Brogdon is going to net Portland the Josh Hart package—filler and a protected or late first.

We can send them Moses!

It depends on who it's from. Picks in the 20s are worth about half as much as a lotto.
