The cap will be:
136 mil
142 mil
149 mil
156 mil

Over the next four seasons. At less than 10% of that each year, even at 4 yrs 55, this is such a slam dunk match for me. We are in no place to let talent walk.
You make a valid point. I just worry that we would have to find PT for him in order to keep his value up so we could cash it in but I'm often conflicted about things that others find to be easy. So you're probably right.

Also it leaves us free to use our MLE to pick up even more talent and future tradeable assets.

It’s not gonna be hard to find minutes for him. A lot of our young guys aren’t ready to really contribute.

Is he going to help us get into the playoffs? If not, let him walk
I don't think we're going to be trying for the playoffs (I could definitely be wrong) but at the trade deadline a team that is trying to get into the playoffs might like a guy off the bench that has the valuable skill set Matisse brings. I'm not fully sure either way but I can see why we don't want to let a good player walk without getting compensation for him.

Yeah we can’t have a team full of 18-22 year old guys. Thybulle seems like a great guy and has a skill set on D I’d like all of our players to strive for. We are all in agreement that Grant will be traded for an asset why not do the same with a better defender making 1/3 the money?

Pulled this off realgn board FWIW"

"Dallas board is saying they can only offer $36 million/4 for they don't have all of their full MLE."

If DAL doesn't have the full MLE to offer, then it seems a no-brainer to keep him. That isn't that much more than he was making last year.

As an aside:

It is funny that Chris Haynes now has his own breaking news graphic. Jesus.

Contribute to winning for sure but how do you get them ready to contribute on a team like the one I'm assuming we'll have. You get them reps in games. It's a tough call for me but I think the most logical move is to hold onto an asset that has value... especially when it allows us to add similar value with our own TPE.

It's interesting that Goodwin is his agent because in an ideal world we would know more about the roster we would be adding Matisse to before matching. I think that's pretty crafty on Goodwin's part or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

even easier decision

The dude has value. He’s an asset. We need assets. He’s also not 19 and we need a few vets. Match.
Exactly. You need some good character vets in the locker room. You can’t just have a bunch of young guys.

You know what happens when it’s just a bunch of young guys and no vets? You become the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.

If that's true then it is a very easy decision to match.

Have fun working with Kyrie.

I like the skillset a lot. I like a MLE-level contract just fine. Matching doesn't kill us. And having some switchable wing defenders may be useful.

I haven't gone through the numbers (at work now) but I remember DAL as being close to the tax line. Full NTMLE caps them at the first apron. At 12M-ish to start a NTMLE, that's interesting.

And if it's true that Seth Curry signed for the BAE (didn't see confirmation of that yet), then they don't have the TPMLE to use (can't use TPMLE if you've done a Room, NTMLE or BAE). They can use NTMLE to get to the Apron but are hard-capped. Apron is only $7M above the tax line, so if DAL is less than 5M short of the tax line right now they can't sign for the full NTMLE, even if they have it all.

GP2weeks is also repped by Goodwin btw.
I don't actually think GP2 did us as dirty as a lot of people here do. I think that was all on the Warriors organization. He didn't go to bat for us after being traded like Hart did but I don't hate the dude.

Oh this is interesting.

I think the NEW CBA has drastically cut the level of the tax-MLE it's 5M this season:

in other words, if a team uses more than 5M of their MLE, they are using the non-Tax MLE and they will be hard-capped. Since Dallas signed Seth Curry with the BAE, they would appear to only have their non-tax-MLE to use

looking at the Dallas Spotrac page,

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/cap/

it says Dallas is at a shade under 153M with about 12.5M in margin below the tax line and an 18M margin below the hard cap apron. But I don't think the salaries of the two Dallas 1st round picks are accounted for so that would take 7.5M off of both of those margins

as for matching, it's always a balancing act, and the advisability on match will depend on the level of annual salary compared to when Portland is after a Dame trade. If Thybulle is making 7-9M year, it's an easy match. But if he's making 13-14M year it's not

RFA is a way to get your market value. Too bad Kahn isn’t GMing the Mavs…
