I think if we do match it will eith be because he’s ok in Portland or for a sign and trade
S&T is not an option after he actually signs the offer sheet.
The only choices are to match or not. No other options are available at that point.

I can't see why he would want to stay now. Good luck Matisse.

I mean, if he is not OK and Portland does not have anything they want from Dallas, they can still match and find a deal later. But, with him "being" from the PNW from his college days and him mentioning it, I can't imagine he will have an issue with staying

This is a fifty fifty coin toss for me. Not sure we are getting value added at the offer sheet price. Will he really move the needle one way or the other. Could be what you see is what you get and he has reached his upside.

He'll jus take time from Shae, Sharp, Simons & Johnson

He'll be a great tag team with Rupert if that's the way they choose to go. You need a bench and we're really going to need a bench with rookies starting

Simons needs to be moved.
Johnson needs to show he's an NBA level player.
Having both of those players on the roster are not reasons to re-sign/match the contract of Thybulle. You take the better player...

The cap will be:
136 mil
142 mil
149 mil
156 mil

Over the next four seasons. At less than 10% of that each year, even at 4 yrs 55, this is such a slam dunk match for me. We are in no place to let talent walk.
We let talent walk when we gave Hart up, as well as many other moves the last few years. A number of posters here are looking at contracts like it's still 1999 with SPAM. It's not, Jody has never paid the luxury tax. Beyond that she's
avoided it more than just about any ownership group in the league. Thybulle is a luxury the cheap Blazers cannot afford.

If we match it's more likely we have to give up a pick for another team to eventually take this contract than the chance we gain anything.

I think the NEW CBA has drastically cut the level of the tax-MLE it's 5M this season:

in other words, if a team uses more than 5M of their MLE, they are using the non-Tax MLE and they will be hard-capped. Since Dallas signed Seth Curry with the BAE, they would appear to only have their non-tax-MLE to use

looking at the Dallas Spotrac page,

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/cap/

it says Dallas is at a shade under 153M with about 12.5M in margin below the tax line and an 18M margin below the hard cap apron. But I don't think the salaries of the two Dallas 1st round picks are accounted for so that would take 7.5M off of both of those margins

as for matching, it's always a balancing act, and the advisability on match will depend on the level of annual salary compared to when Portland is after a Dame trade. If Thybulle is making 7-9M year, it's an easy match. But if he's making 13-14M year it's not

Agreed. I like him at $7-9mil, but not at $14mil. However, it's not my money but as good as he is on defense, he's a liability on offense as defenders sag off him on half court plays.

I like the skillset a lot. I like a MLE-level contract just fine. Matching doesn't kill us. And having some switchable wing defenders may be useful.

I haven't gone through the numbers (at work now) but I remember DAL as being close to the tax line. Full NTMLE caps them at the first apron. At 12M-ish to start a NTMLE, that's interesting.
I never understand why posters talk about the Apron with the Blazers. The Blazers are staying below the luxury tax, the apron is irrelevant.

No reason to cut Watford either and they did. So would not be surprised either way.
I think it's way different because in the case of Drew and Trendon, we needed to get bigger at their postion....Matisse is a perfect 3 and D guard in the mold of Wes Mathews...putting him next to Grant gives you vets that aren't that old. Grant and Matisse are going to help Rupert and Murray acclimate. Mattise shot 38.3 from deep last season..that's damned good.

Or... We just keep him cuz hes a valuable rotational piece.

Don't want any player on the roster who wants to be somewhere else. I like Thybulle but his minutes can go to Rupert now.
It doesn't mean he wants to be someplace else. This is how he determines his market value. Now the Blazers can match if they feel like it's worth it.

But he had to sign an offer sheet with somebody or just take whatever the Blazers offered.

For the TP-MLE, this seems like a fairly easy match. Tradable contract come any deadline for a team looking to add an elite defender.
