I'm sure I'm not the only one who is frustrated by this, but how many other teams aren't having to give up lotto picks (both of whom could be top 3 in any year in the last 5 years probably) to get superstars?

KD wasn't traded for a top 3 and 7 pick. Nor was Harden. Or Beal.

Why should Portland be the team who trades *two* of them + a player for a player that is not equal to any of the above players??

Just my fanboys circle jerking about how much they love me. Best part is that I have both of them on ignore. Sheed30 has like 400 posts and I bet half of them are him hating on me. It’s nice to know I have admirers.

LOL!!!!

Soft as pudding filled cupcakes…

Its unfortunate you ignore those who try to provide some advice on how to make this place better.

might as well change the title of this site to “Nates S2 site”… with a motto of…”if you want to be a part of the community, you must endure a nate post every third post because he cares less about how he annoys others and has to impose his opinion on everyone all day every day….”

Shows just how selfish one truly is….

This is what happens when teams think they have you over a barrel.

Part of the problem with the Lillard saga has to do with the current mentality of the basketball media (it's actually existed since at least Oden and Durant). There is simply a view that a superstar playing in a small market is like a tree falling in forest with no one around to hear it. Remember the lamentations about Oden and Durant playing in the Northwest where it was too late to stay up to watch them play? Yet that has never been a complaint with any L*ker or Warrior. Just silly.

Guys like Lillard and Antetokounmpo must drive them crazy.

A few of the mods posts seem bot-like. It's being handled. We are human. We aren't bots. A lot of the bot-like posts aren't intentionally made human-like. We can't always post like mammals. If you'd like to go elsewhere, that's your prerogative.

are you anti-reptile?

I wonder why they keep saying "free agency" instead of the off-season. Is it just short-hand? Does anybody really believe the Blazers can leverage themselves into a S&T?

the actual free agency period is over pretty fast. In fact, most of it happens during the moratorium. When that's effectively over, and if Dame hasn't demanded a trade yet, what will be the new location of the goal posts these bloviators keep moving?

Did the same with Dwight in Orlando, Melo in Denver, AD &CP in New Orleans, Deron in Utah, PG in Indy, etc etc etc. Giannis is the only one who shut them up.

I think they mean the one to two week blitz after the draft to be honest. I think "free agency" actually means the moratorium in this context. I mean Joe even said that there was a two week window in his post draft presser.

I think the idea is if Joe doesn't have shit in place by the time all of the "big names" come off of the board, which is usually the day the moratorium ends, that he won't be getting his shit together. So I would expect that by the time SL starts that Joe will either have a better roster around Dame or there will be more Dame drama and maybe for the last time.

I can't tell if your talking about yourself, sheed30, or NateBishop?
It’s very clear who he is talking about, the same person who gets into it with the different people over and over, but is not him, it’s us lmao.

Everything is transactional sweetheart. I have to put up with other posters just like they have to put up with me. I come on here to read what people think and share my thoughts. If you think my opinions have been repetitive, you should see how many different ways “Dame is not leaving” has been posted on here.

I take this as Dame has told the Blazers they need to get one of his players in free agency. If the Blazers don't - Dame will want out.

Your correct, by July 5th-10th or so all of free agency is basically over and most the NBA rosters are set. Yes its possible there is one restricted free agent, or one trade that happens later, but we see 98% of the moves happen those first days in July so yes it makes sense that is the period the Blazers have as a deadline.

could be the case...but here's what I've seen:

* "Dame will demand a trade if Blazers don't trade #3"

* "Dame will demand a trade if Blazers haven't made a move by the end of draft day"

* "Dame will demand a trade when he comes back from Paris"

* "Dame will demand a trade after this meeting with Cronin"

and now it's:

* "Dame will demand a trade if Blazers don't get something done in free agency"

* "Dame will demand a trade if Blazers don't get something done in free agency or the week or two after"

Dame did say, and he made a point to repeat it and emphasize it in a follow-up interview, that he believed he'd be on the Blazers when the season started. Maybe, Dame hasn't changed his position at all. Maybe, Dame is being very patient because he really really wants to stay in Portland. Maybe, all the people who have been moving the goalposts for when Dame would finally ask out don't have a damn clue

We don't have a damn clue what it would take for Dame to demand a trade because he hasn't done it. So maybe Joe can continue to make promises and then not keep them and Dame will just stay. That doesn't seem likely to me but it probably should since it's already happened so many times.

one of the roundtables mentioned how the Donovan Mitchell trade didn't happen until late free agency last season. There's still plenty of time for Cronin to make killer moves. That's about as optimistic I can get.

rewinding to the last trade deadline, in an interview Cronin was happy with his deals to get Reddish, Thybulle, Knox, and even Ryan Arcidiacono. Thought his fresh new recruits could compete at the highest levels. They played about 3 good games and lost well over a dozen.

I'm still under the impression Cronin is a shady used car salesman until proven otherwise.

I just never understood why people care so much what the GM says in public statements. Its like when a CEO talks for a business - its just a bunch of PR crap that doesn't really mean anything. He can't be upfront or honest or transparent. Thats not how this game is played. Probably has to be even more secretive as there is the poker element and misdirection with the other 29 GMs. A bunch of it has to be polite thanks to agents and to players. Maybe some statements get clipped for the Blazers sales department and ticket renewals.

I always look at the actual moves the GM does, what players does he bring in, send out, picks acquired, and contracts given. Thats how you judge a GM - by results!

So far I love draft day Cronin. I hope he can abduct free agency/deadline Cronin, and take their place.

I don’t get a used car salesman vibe. If anything he’s just in over his head. He has the personality of an un-buttered dinner roll. I think he’s doing his best but I also think he has Bert and Jody watching his every move. I don’t envy the guy. They gave him the job because they most likely wanted someone they could control. He didn’t have to interview for the job.

I think the cap and how he manages scouts is good. I think he really understand the costs/benefits of contracts, players aging, etc.

The main thing I question his ability on is maximizing returns in negotiations. I don't think he knows how to do this at all. He's factual, upfront and straight to the point. That's not how you negotiate successfully.

Yeah the management of Jody/Bert is a very tough element to this job and a hinderance to any GM. I do think Neil was better in that regard, it seems like Jody was more willing to pay costs with him. I don't know that Joe has that same ability to sell her on why she should pay for something.

what promises has Cronin made to Dame that he hasn't kept?

yeah, that's a rhetorical question because we don't know what Cronin and Dame have said to each other

something else: I mentioned that Dame came out and made a point to clarify and emphasize that he believed he'd be a Blazer when the season started. Seemed to me he realized he might have said too much to that interviewer. He realized it was a casual conversation for himself, but that the internet was a hystarial collection on nutjobs and he needed to clarify. Has Dame made any public comments since that one?
