Honestly, a pretty well-written article, and it's hard not to agree regardless of what side the debate you're on.
It's a decent article, but what he failed to add is that , Blazers management could have done a better job in acquiring assets, that were available in the market. Not just recently, but last year as well. Blazers management has failed to take a chance on acquiring wing help in any respect. Did they try to go after Lauri Markkanen, or John Collins? Some may have went ,meh, if that kind of move was made, but Ainge looks like a genius now that Markkanen is allowed to be more than a spot of 3 guy.

John Collins was just acquired for basically a cheese sandwich and a bag of chips. So sure , one can say Dame hasn't done himself any favors by having writers speak for him, but the franchise hasn't taken any chances either , to show him they mean what they say.

Dame obviously wants to stay. But he wants some help to compete. Fair asking to me. Instead of saying the plan is to add around him. Show him. Neil , sure as hell, didn't. Adding fringe players, while bigger markets got real talent for pennies on the dollar. It's happening again.

While i'm not a big Beal fan, Phoenix got him for next to nothing. Not saying Joe has to dive into the Lava. But at least dip your toe into the hot spring where others are taking a soak. Just looking at the pool isn't accomplishing anything. Maybe the pool's too hot, but maybe it's just right. You won't know till you try.

Dame wants to see him make the move. That means getting said talent and living with the decision, right or wrong. Yoda said "DO or do not" , "there is no try " Add the player Joe.

People keep saying this, but Dames frustrations all started after we lost to Denver and we had a veteran team. He has said he wants to compete. He has said he wants a punchers chance. Adding a couple veterans isn’t going to do that.

He seemed to think we had a punchers chance when we were starting Harkless/Aminu/Kanter, same with Powell/RoCo/Nurk, and I'd even say early in the season he thought so with Hart/Grant/Nurk.

In the past, it hasn't taken much for him to believe.

If I were going to think of a move that really tipped the scale for a team that could also help us, I think of the Nuggets' acquisition of Aaron Gordon. He gave them the size Milsap just couldn't match and put them on that next level. His scoring went down, but he opened up the court for Jokic and Murray simply by his low post presence. He also took a lot of pressure off of Jokic to defend and rebound in the post.

It's that kind of player (perhaps less skilled than Gordon) that could really help this team.

I don’t remember him ever saying that. He’s getting older. His patience would appear to be wearing thin. Even his buddy Nate Jones essentially said that Dames teams have sucked.

Bingo! That was the start for Denver. Then they tweaked it with the additions of KCP, and Bruce Brown. Many in here, including myself, wanted to acquire Gordon. We didn't. Again failure to launch. No More Guards Joe. The pick of Murray is promising. Now go add a proven Wing stud.

What cronin release?

The news I heared was Cronin said he and Dame had a good dialogue and the blazers wanna continue to build around Dame.

But Haynes himself, Marang, Highkin reported the Cronin statement

Hanes wont refute his own tweet. So what Cronin release are you pertaining to?

Speaking of Marang, why does he post so much nonsense?

"Luka, Tatum, Trae & Ja being the only players as the #1 (as Scoot would be) here that have the ball in their hands and ultimately responsible for their teams winning (Hali if you squint)."
>
Haliburton is a insanely good PG at his age.

"Trading a guy who’s the 4th most important player on the team ruins adding the guy that on his own was the best offense in the league last year is certainly a way to frame something."
> About Nic Claxton. Fourth best? Dude...

those can be expensive, the Blazers ultra-youth bench is much cheaper.
This ain't Moneyball. You have to spend big money to acquire valuable pieces , whether in a trade, free agency, or both. It cost.

When they promote from within? Absolutely not. They had to fire NeO (or were looking for an excuse, whatever) - and they had someone from within they know and trust. There is no requirement to interview if you believe you already have the right person on the payroll.

For example, imagine that Dame requests a trade next year - will the Blazers have to go look in the trade market for a replacement PG if they believe at this point they have the replacement already on the roster in Scoot? Same could happen here. They had him around for a long time to know what they wanted to know. His long employment time is basically his very long interview.
I went back and looked and the last time we promoted from within was KP and he still had to interview.

let's say the Blazers can swindle a new Damian buddy (DeRozan) for Ant & Nurk. Do we root for the team to tank after All-Star break again? Can Blazer fans set their expectations higher? Go through another season of waiting for the trade deadline so Cronin can fix the bad defense? Or will the Dame/DD/Grant big 3 be far superior then the 1st round exit Bulls last season?

Either trade Dame and go full tank, or make a whole bunch of moves to fix holes in the lineup. Banking on young players who are undersized at multiple positions, is how Portland landed Scoot Henderson.

Stealth tanking with Lillard can be frustrating, but damn if it doesn't work terrifically.

Again, how do you know he did not interview? And even if he did not, as I said, who cares, it's not like they did not know what he is good or not good at. He has worked at the team in basketball operations for over 15 years when they made this decision.
Pritchard was hired to Portland in 2004 as director of player personnel, worked as an interim coach before being promoted to GM. He had no cap management experience with the team, likely was not a big part of the trade deadline or drafts. Of course they had to interview him in 2006.

I would say that ever if they did not interview Cronin (which we do not know for sure) - they had a much better knowledge of him as a potential GM. He started as directory of player personnel in 2014, was promoted to assistant GM, he was hired as an interim GM - and later promoted to permanent GM (so, basically, they know him for over a decade, many years as cap guru and assistant GM and later had him evaluated as an interim GM on the fly.

Frankly, I still do not see the issue. Organizations that are never going to promote from within have a very bad business culture. There is nothing wrong with that, especially given how long he worked for the Blazers.

Fuck no. I'd tell Dame to pound sand before trading away Sharpe.

I'd imagine some Dame fans would do that though.

Simons and filler is more than enough on their own. I'm still not certain Id do that though. If Dame is good with Cam Johnson I'd probably try that first. Or I might consider doing neither and just tell Dame sorry - decide for yourself if you want to play with young guys or request a trade - we'll help either way.

Problem too is matching salary - Sharpe isn't enough so we'd have to likely lose Ant as well. Ant and Sharpe for the right to pay Green $40 million per year and the team still losses? Fuck no.

And that’s the common problem around here…too many straw man arguments. You’d “imagine” Dame fans would support including Sharpe in a trade package for Green? Why not ask the question, because this Dame fan’s answer would be “hell no”. And since when did being a Dame fan become a divisive thing among Blazers fans? I’d say since some of you created the false narrative that the Blazers can’t build a contender around Dame.

Agreed... this seems like a very poor assumption.

And who on here isn't a fan of Dame? Even if you love Sharpe/Scoot, I'd assume most Blazer fans are still a fan of Dame. Maybe that's a bad assumption on my part.

I don't think Derozan will do a damn thing to help our deficiencies on the floor.

For what it's worth, Sharpe has been working out with Dame and Beckner this offseason...I want Dame and Sharpe to be our starting guards next season and put some size at SF. Also really excited for the bench we're going to have.

I think it's safe to say that Quick and Dame are not best friends

God what an unbearable asshole this guy is. I won't link or paste the article. Urge everyone NOT to read this nonsense. While the message is fine, Quicks tone and writing style make it very clear he has an agenda vs Dame

I hope Shaes ready because I'm stoked to watch him start alongside Dame while Scoot leads the bench unit.

link? Shaedon and Beckner is not a thing. Not sure why you would assume this.

Sharpe has his own longstanding trainer Francis Kiapway.

there has been lots of bad blood between Quick and Dame for years. Several times Dame has called out Quick for bad reporting and Quick has tried to Dame dirty ever since
