Not trying to start an argument but please refrain from making any assumptions using the +- stat.
Right above this you have PER which has him at 5th on the team right under Nurk who isn't available.
Even PER has it's issues but it's way way better than a +- stat by every stretch of the imagination.
 
The +- chart has Blevins at 6th on the team. Please tell me people don't actually create opinions using this stat?

it is like a lot of these metrics. They shouldn't be used as real gauges until 25-30 games are played

furthermore, the +/- (or BPM, PER, etc) for a 30 min/game starter should not be graded against that of an 18 min/game backup. You also need to adjust for rotations and lineups

I don’t go off PER. And my point is a simple one: Melo outperforms DJJ and RoCo combined and he “scores” - can’t say that about DJJ nor RoCo.

it’s halftime and DJJ and RoCo have combined for FIVE points! We won’t win games and we will continually fall behind with starting forwards that can’t score!

I hate that I'm even in this thread...but Nurk's injury has gotten me feeling negative...feeling like I don't understand how we have Terry coaching this team, Jordan commentating, Brook goofing off, the Outsider guy's stupid bicep shirts...Melo's shot selection, the lack of defense, the stagnant offense...I'm melting down...

I’m arguing that Melo as a starter would be more effective than DJJ or RoCo - neither score and we simply won’t win like this. If only CJ and Dame score aside from another 10-12 out of the Center position and 10-12 out of our two starting forwards...you think our PER will beat the opponent? So much for PER

no...I replied to a poster suggesting we keep Melo on the bench the last 10 minutes of each game so he will want to leave... and the previous posts were bashing Melo (generally speaking). ** I’m getting very little argument about my primary point: RoCo and DJJ as starters will NOT translate into wins!

I don't know why you keep talking to me about DJJ and RoCo.... I never said a word to you about either of those players.

I wouldn't call it "Elite" by any means but you have to admit he has played better defense in the last few games. I think he does better at center? Just from what i see.

Oh no. Now i don't know where to turn? How can i possibly give any credit to the coach for a number of players on the team playing better defense? This 8-5 record has me stumped also. Who can we give credit for winning over 61% of the games? At this rate they will win 43 games by seasons end? Every stat i look at tells me everything he is doing is wrong. I tell you I'm speechless!

Above .500 (Playoff type teams)
Blown out by the Jazz by 20 (8-4)
Beat the Lakers....best win of the season (11-3)
Blown out by the Clippers (9-4)
Blown out by a depleted Pacers team (8-4)

.500 or below
BARELY beat the thoroughly depleded Rockets in OT (4-7)
Torched the Warriors (6-6)
Blown out by the Warriors (6-6)
Blew a 20 point lead and lost to the depleted Bulls (4-8)
Beat up on a decimated, bad Wolves team (3-8)
Blew out the Kings (5-8)
Barely escaped against a shell Raptors team (4-8)
Came from 20 down to beat the Kings (5-8)
Came from 16 down to beat the Hawks. (5-8) First full game w/o Nurk. Lost CJ at halftime but that is when the rally started.

So, 1-3 against Playoff teams including 3 blowouts.
And 7-2 against the .500 and worse crowd, barely beating some of those teams.

I give plenty of that credit to Stotts. That is SO much his coaching career. Isn't changing now, not changing in the future.

was never talking to you in the first place! You chose to jump in with your PER expertise [so Melo is the 5th best Blazer instead of the 3rd according to PER...so what? My comments were never for you!

Melo is our best player in a tied game with two minutes left in getting calls from the ref. Hands down, every time he makes a move? The refs blow the whistle. Not a bad weapon to have out there in crunch time.

according to 82games, Last season in clutch time (4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points)

I'm looking at Melo's passing rating and his hands rating and I'm seeing someone who once he gets the ball, isn't passing it. Dame's ability to draw fouls is considerably better than Melo's (about 63% higher), and he's a lot more likely to find an open teammate if the defense takes away his scoring options

So we should probably have Dame and CJ in the game also.
