Merged: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

:sigh:

Months ago, I predicted that Allen's health issues were going to change the rules of the game, and that KP had to adapt or he would be in trouble. What I never expected, was for the organization to be this ham-fisted about it.

They should have kept the lid on this while the team was involved in a play-off race. Barring that, either give KP a vote of confidence, or fire him and explain why. Don't have the guy twist in the wind, and don't treat the fans like mushrooms. (ie kept in the dark and fed manure) :smiley-flaming:

That would have been nice.

ps. That Sean Connery, "Zardoz" avatar is cracking me the hell up.

I'm pretty confident it has nothing to do with Paul Allen's health.

another way to know kevs gone....

he keeps talking in the past tense....

hes gone

I just watched this whole situation unfold with the Seahawks so I have a pretty good idea how it goes. All they would do is hire new people and give them the reigns, much like they gave to KP. Only problem is that person wouldn't be as good as KP.

There's one type of person they don't like and that's people who have their own vision of how they see things. Mike Holmgren was this kind of person, and that's why Tod Leiweke declined to bring Holmgren back as the GM and instead brought in a guy that's never been a GM before. Pritchard is much like Holmgren in that he has a vision of how things should go and I don't think the Vulcans/Tod Leiweke like those kind of people.

That's an interesting take. I don't follow the Seahawks closely at all, but it's reasonable to assume they'd follow similar plans in dealing with the sports side in these teams. Did Carroll get personnel control?

Carroll has some kind of control, but it's not total control.

The GM they fired last year seemed to have a ton of control over players and contracts, he was just really bad and the Seahawks have won 9 games in two seasons, thus he was fired.

They still give the GM and coaches full control(for the most part), they just don't like guys that try to do it there own way(Pritchard/Holmgren). Holmgren wanted total control and they wouldn't give it to him, thus he's the GM of the Browns with total control. I think he's actually the President or w/e, but you get the idea. Pritchard reportedly wanted to give Roy a max deal from the start(who didn't?), and I guess the Vulcan guys got in the way of that.

Toe Leiweke is the guy that makes all these decisions. He's pretty much the upper management guy that's always being talked about. He's the CEO of Vulcan, Seahawks, and the Sounders(Allen is a minority owner for the Sounders). Tod Leiweke is Paul Allen's right-hand man in making decisions and getting shit done. He was also the interim President for the Blazers after Patterson was canned.

The greatest actor of our era in the greatest movie of his career!

Either that, or proof positive that there was a LOT of drug use in the 70s!

Well that movie was made the year I was born so ...

But I agree Connery's the best and holy shit was the set designer doing some good drugs on that movie!

(you probably also like Logan's Run?)

I found a large picture of Vulcan and I photoshopped it a bit. It's about 7x7 inches.

If we don't make t-shirts from it, we can at least use it as our avatars here.

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

That is a really hard question. I think I probably would. I would be bitter....but after all these years, it would be tough to stop. I have lost count of how many times this team has broken my heart....so what's one more? :dunno:

39:ohno: times for me.

Old Man Grouch

That avatar is THE BEST!
Very ROFL worthy.

See kids. . .Drugs are bad,
this is what happens when you take them.

 Not bad. I like my campy Sci Fi to be *really* campy - like "Battle Beyond the Stars" or "Ice Pirates." Better yet, I like the old stuff like "Plan 9 From Outer Space."

Nice. I do draw the line at Uwe Boll flicks though.

Just wanted to say I think the guy from Yahoo is a vicious little rat and he is projecting his own need to be the center of attention onto Pritchard.

Looking over all of the comments at Blazersedge.com on this story I stumbled across a bit from Norsktroll and somebody else that I can't quite remember, but they were both pretty certain that Mark Warkentien is the man driving this smear campaign and that A-Woj is 'his boy' (their words, not mine) ... in that context (if it's true) then Wojnawrowski's long running feud with KP and Warkentien having ties to guys like Jaynes, Vance, etc. from his time under Bob Whittsitt starts to make a lot more sense.

Hell, Jason Quick almost calls out Warkentien by name here:
http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2010/03/blazers_insider_vulcan_logic_h.html

After more than 10 years of covering this team for this newspaper, this development would go down as one of the strangest and dumbest I've encountered.

All of this reeks heavily of a certain Western Conference general manager who is widely known to envy this job. He happens to have experience with the workings of the Vulcans. He has been on a constant smear campaign since Pritchard took over, harboring feelings that Pritchard "gloats" about his success, "rubbing it in the nose" of colleagues.

If some want to tout that source as credible, and not recognize the motives, that's on them. And if Vulcan wants to play that way, then maybe this isn't the place for Pritchard after all.

If anything has become clear to me over the past week it's this: Anyone under Kevin Pritchard in this organization loves him and swears by him. Anyone over him appears uncomfortable with him or threatened by him.

Is it because the Blazers fan base reveres him so strongly? Or is it because there are people who think he gets too much credit? Or are there simply too many people making decisions in the organization?

It's hard to say. Paul Allen and his Vulcan company has never been an easy bunch to figure out.

Ultimately I think KP has made some mistakes, but there seems to be some serious Machiavellian shit going on right now behind the scenes. I think it's highly likely that Warkentien covets the Blazers job and probably feels like he has an inside track back into the organization if KP is forced out, especially since the Nuggets seem to have balked at giving him an extension.

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

Aldridge was overpaid.

He's being paid like an All-Star but he's really a third or fourth option. You can't rely on LMA.

3rd/4th options don't average 17/8 on 49% shooting. LMA is a very solid 2nd option. What more do you want??

You know, I want to wait on LMA to prove himself as well.

He hasn't really done as much this season.

But during the playoffs last year, he was 19/7.5 playing against a very tough and physical Rockets team.

He proved himself as the second option then.

I'm going to wait until the playoffs this year before I make a final judgment.

one of my biggest issue on here is posters still think we are rebuilding and we arent. allen again could be sicker then we know... and wants to win now. its really reading between the lines. something many on here cant do.

You called for serious trades last season. It's looking more and more like you were right. We're headed towards what should've been Oden's 4th season. Instead of talking titles, we're talking 8th seed, Oklahoma City passing us, Aldridge still not an All Star, and Oden going back to coming off the bench. We got nothing for RLEC and KP was too afraid to make deals for players who could put us over the top. Randolph for Rudy was a disaster. Jack for Bayless was a lateral move at best. He finally makes the deal for Camby but only because he was forced to by the loss of Joel and Greg. If Joel and Greg don't recover and deliver, we have to give a nice contract to a 15 year vet (Camby) or be stuck with a 17 year vet (Howard) at center. Without something effective in the middle, and Camby's offense is non-existent, we're screwed. (Also- do you notice that Camby grabs like 19 rebounds in a game but he always seems to miss the really important ones?)

Finally, we had all that cap room and we had to throw it at someone, so we threw it at Andre Miller. THEN Nate had the nerve to put that 7 million dollar player on the bench. Paul Allen must've been livid and embarrassed by that. Ultimately, Nate was forced to start Miller and then, of course, Blake was traded. Miller is, yes, better than Blake in so many ways and can bring so much more to the table than Blake did, BUT in our offense (remember "That's not the way we want to play"?), Miller is stuck taking three pointers in the 4th quarter of big games. He was 0-6 last night. Ridiculous. Roy and the rest of the team miss Blake's ability to hit those and they haven't adjusted. Then again, what has Andre Miller ever won in his career? He's played 600 straight games but he hasn't won a playoff series. Ugh. At least Camby's been to the Finals.

Go Blazers.
