Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

The Blazers overpaid for Roy. The Blazers overpaid for Aldridge.

Considering Aldridge's stagnation this season, I agree with your second statement. Even at the time, I thought it might be a slight overpay, but worth it to lock in certainty. Now I think it was a significant overpay.

I don't think the team overpaid for Roy. I think he's legitimately a max-level player and any of the cap room teams that lost out on James or Wade would have been willing to max out Roy this summer.

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

yes, because an arena lease has never been broken to move a team. :dunno:

If you are an nfl owner, you can not own two professional sports teams in the same city.

That and I REALLY really believe Stern would stifle any kind of move. He wouldn't support it imo.

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

I hope so! if the Blazers ever moved, the city of Portland would burn to the ground. The Rodney King Riots would look like a Girl Scout meeting.

No way. Portland is happy being the biggest small town in the USA. We have MLS, son!

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

The way I see it, Allen and Vulcan created this mess by firing Penn in midseason without providing any substantive reason for the firing.

Maybe, or maybe Tom Penn created this mess by doing whatever it was that he did, or by not doing whatever it was that he didn't do.

Sometimes people have to be fired, and sometimes (most times) you can't publicly reveal the reason because of the possibility that the ex-employee will sue you.

The agent made the fuss bigger because that's what agents do.
The media made the fuss bigger because that's what the media does.
We examine every conspiracy theory, no matter how far-fetched, because that's what we do.

Meanwhile, the Blazers can do very little to change any of that.

i read that paul allen owns both the seahawks and the seattle sounders tho(MLS)

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

Aldridge was overpaid.

He's being paid like an All-Star but he's really a third or fourth option. You can't rely on LMA.

maybe its you cant be majority owner. I know with the Sounders he is also in it with Drew Carey and some other dude.

Here is a real scary thought.

The story has always been that if Allen dies, the team goes to his sister - who wouuld rather stick pins in her eyes than own a basketball team.

What if all this is the beginning of the post PA era? The current team is only attractive to a buyer who wants to win and is willing to spend some coin to do so. They could well be following the example of the Sonics: strip the roster and devalue the team so it is easier to sell to some carpet-bagger. If said carpet-bagger either moves the team, or runs it on a Don Sterling type shoe-string...what do the Vulcans and Ms Allen care. Their priority will be to sell the team ASAP.

If the team and the RG wind up being sold to separate parties - then we will know the team is moving.

I'm sure some of you will say that won't happen. Just keep whistling past the cemetary. :smiley-blindfold:

Would you still follow them/root for them if they move out of Oregon?

Would you still follow them/root for them if they move out of Oregon?

That is a really hard question. I think I probably would. I would be bitter....but after all these years, it would be tough to stop. I have lost count of how many times this team has broken my heart....so what's one more? :dunno:

Absolutely not. And I've been a fan since their first season. Would you follow and support your wife if she left you for someone else? If they abandon the most loyal fan base in the NBA, fuck them.

Re: 2pm KP and Larry Miller Press Conference

That eliminates option 3 then. Pritchard would have to agree to accepting a demotion and taking on Penn's job.

That seems so remote as to not be worth considering.

I meant that it might not seem reasonable to KP to consider that option, so yeah, I'm in agreement with you. Still, I think that joby might be the best fit for him.

You have to wonder if this Kpee saga leads to an epic collapse?

I mean could the Blazers timing be any worse? How did they not wait on this till seasons end to fire Penn or Kpee? You really have to wonder with our schedule if the Blazers are distracted by this and it leads to them falling apart down the stretch? You have to admit this has come at an awful time. Furthermore making this by far the craziest Blazer season ever and its not close anymore.

Re: You have to wonder if this Kpee saga leads to an epic collapse?

The game will go on.

Re: You have to wonder if this Kpee saga leads to an epic collapse?

I agree.

Unless Penn did something felonious, this was an idiotic time to touch off this dispute.

and i still say... the turning point came last summer when hedo left us at the alter. Thats when everything changed.

so in all honesty.... maybe he did get the last laugh. kind of like the joker at the end of the dark knight....

Well... then we match the deal. And we're no worse off. Maybe better off, depending on where the cap lands.

I don't know that a team would be willing to tie up so much cap space, though, with the knowledge that Portland was simply going to match it.

The primary danger would have been Roy becoming so frustrated that he was never going to re-sign with the Blazers no matter the amount of money they threw at him while he was a free agent. That, indeed, would be a terrible thing, but I find it exceedingly unlikely, and canceled out by the slim possibility that he would have a serious injury that would drive DOWN his asking price.

I'm certainly not upset the Blazers have him, and although I tend to be very anti-extension, I'm not even upset that the Blazers extended him for what they did... I can see, though, how the franchise might be upset if KP made moves that were contrary to the financial direction that it was trying to establish.

This season has been fairly low on drama, IMO.

Once it became clear late last season that we were abandoning the rebuild promise, the rest of the collapse was pretty much destined to happen.

The good news is we'll have a new owner in a few years.

The bad news is the team probably moves.
