OK since it seems unlikely (or less likely anyway) that Noel is available do you still like Ibaka without Noel?

Yes, we still need 2-way players and Ibaka with his 3-point range would be a plus on both ends of the court in Stotts' system.

He would be a good fit next to Plumlee. His range would create lanes for cutters/slashers like Harkless and Turner and would also draw a defensive big out of the paint, which would make it easier for Dame and C.J. To finish at the rim.

bottom line he appears to be in decline and who knows his "real age"? no guarantee he would re-sign here as he is a UFA and I would not want to give up much at all. It has to say something that Orlando trade Oladipo for him and now is looking to trade him?

That'd be stupid of them lol.

They need to rebuild, holding onto the $17M a year contract of a player nearing the end of his prime and who hasn't proved he deserves that kind of money is foolish.

I assume they'd be willing to rid themselves of his contract. They could try to pursue someone good like Jrue Holiday in the off-season with the money saved, or they could absorb similarly bad contracts such as Matthews' but get picks for them taking on that type of contract.

There's nothing to be gained by them holding onto Matthews.

read about it on Hoopshype. Cuban was saying he is pleased with Matthews recovery from Achilles surgery, and sees him as a cornerstone for the future. He said that they would be looking for a star in return, but aren't shopping him. Said, they got calls about Matthews, but turned everyone down.

Why do you think he is in decline?

I hear he would drink like a fish if he moved here.

Exactly the question I had with age. He looks in his 30s and that explains his decline. Maybe in Congo they all look more mature who knows.

I'll believe it when it happens. All I see now is a whole lot of developing that will lead to building out of the draft... AGAIN!!

FWIW, Checked in with an Orlando forum.

The Orlando fans are ready to dumb Ibaka for one mid first round 2017 pick. Or a good young player or two on a rookie contract. Unless they get a better offer.

They believe Ibaka is leaving this off season. No indication which team Ibaka wants to go to, just not returning to Orlando. The fans want to auction Ibaka to the highest bidder, probably not making a trade until Feb 23rd.

The O fans would rather let Ibaka walk for nothing than take on Crabbe's contract. They like Crabbe's game, but not his contract and how it would affect their future cap space.

They also want to fire their GM.

FWIW

Cap space for Orlando doesn't mean anything. They are like Portland, not a FA destination. Their best way to acquire talent is the draft/trades.

Btw Crabbe for Ibaka wouldn't work straight up anyway since Orlando is over the cap.

This trade however, does: Ibaka and Jeff Green for Crabbe and Leonard. Green is a FA after this season so we don't have to worry about him being here long term. Orlando gets two young players. Getting Crabbe for Ibaka at this point would be a coup for Orlando because if I was a betting man, if/when he eventually does get traded, the return will probably be very underwhelming if you're a magic fan.

Or we could even do something like Ibaka and hezonja for Crabbe and the Cleveland pick.

Ibaka and Jeff Green for Crabbe and Leonard.

The big issue I have with that:

Lillard/Napier
McCollum/Connaughton
Turner/Harkless
Ibaka/Aminu/Green
Plumlee/Davis

Aminu and green shouldn't see many minutes at the sf position. Moving Crabbe for a pf takes away his 25ish minutes and ability to play 2/3, and replaces it with 2 pfs. Ibaka could definitely see time at c. But the minute breakdown at the guard position gets ugly, IMO.
But, I'm also not all that interested in moving Crabbe, personally.

Funny how RealGM still has Marcelo Nicola as trade option for the Blazers. He's 45 years old and the Blazers aquired his draft rights in 1995. He's actually coaching now.

We should have Denny go explain to them what a great contract it is and how it's a wonderful asset.

Another thing to look at, in regards to him leaving for another team, who will have both the cap space and the need? Not nearly as many teams this year with space as last year, at least in terms of realistic space. Everyone assumes an immediate max offer for him, but seems unlikely to come from anyone.

Well trading for Ibaka would just be step one. I still believe one of Aminu/Harkless should be moved. I don't want to trade Crabbe either but what else would Orlando want? Layman? Ideally they'd just take that Cleveland pick + Davis and Ezeli, but that'd be too amazing for us.

Next season, Orlando's total salaries including cap holds, is $127+ million. Right around the luxury tax threshold. They do not want to take back a lot of salary for Ibaka.

Cleveland first, Davis, and Ezeli would give Orlando a first rounder in a good draft and save them money. Hmm. Maybe it's not that crazy. I'm just thinking about what other teams could/would offer for him. I would also throw in another heavily protected first if need be.

Why do they think that? If so, he wouldn't return to Portland, either. Do NOT give up an Afflalo-like pick for this rental.

With the 2nd-highest payroll in the NBA, I thought the goal of our trades is to reduce our payroll, not the other team's. Many posters here are shooting for #1.

Reducing payroll shouldn't be the focus. Better allocating the money should be.

Dallas is stupid, so don't expect them to do the logical thing here. They should've started their rebuild two summers ago.

People mistake Cuban for being stupid, but they forget how amazing must be those drugs that he can afford.
