Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

He averaged 18 last year, and quite frankly, probably deserved more than that at times. There were clearly times the Blazers were a better team with Batum on the court instead of an Outlaw or Rudy.

He doesn't deserve that many minutes with how often his offense deserts him. It's been said but I'll say it again, his offense allows teams to focus on Roy and Aldridge, severely hurting our offense. There's a reason he only played 6 MPG in the playoffs.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

If we are willing to pay that much, we should sign and trade for Gerald Wallace. A player that doesn't need to take shots away from BROY and LA to help the team.
Did we watch the same playoffs?
A player taking shots away from LA and Roy is EXACTLY what we need. We had Roy and LA shooting too much, because they were the only ones scoring. Good teams have a variety ways to score and we need a 3rd consistent way to score, and Hedo provides that along with ball handling and passing.
Wallace would be nice, but I'm not willing to deal Batum for him, and his contract is just as crappy and he is injury prone.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

And Kobe doesn't get around everyone easily. Idk if you guys have noticed, but Kobe is turning into more of a jump shooter every single year.

And he still murders other teams with his jumper.

With someone besides Blake running the point that could happen. Besides, I expect Batum to be a better player than last year.

Also, the Blazers are still not a great defensive team. Batum was one of the only Blazers that played consistent defense last year. There were times the Blazers elected to go with offense over defense and all that happened were the two teams traded buckets.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

It's so embarrassing that none of you guys know as much about hoops as me! Go away!

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

If the Spurs can win championships with Bowen I'm sure the Blazers can find a way to win with Batum, who I think has more talent in his left pinky finger than Bowen ever had.

I still believe PG is more of a need than SF.

Parker, Manu, AND Duncan.

Who do we have on offense?

Roy, Aldridge....and.....Outlaw......

I think Oden comes around and I would like the Blazers to add a PG, so you'd have Miller/Roy/Aldridge/Oden.

Pretty much sums it up. Outlaw is fine as a gunner, but he's such a liability with his decision making and isn't a tenth the distributor and play maker that hedo is. Turkeyglue is going to be expensive, but guys with his combination of size, length and overall game are pretty uncommon in the league.

Did you watch Orlando basketball at all last year? Hedo is the primary reason Dwight got so many looks on the side pick and roll, it had much less to do with Jameer Nelson.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

I guess we would have another passer to get Greg the ball in good position to score.

But how long does Turkoglu last? He's 30 and already isn't the most athletic player. He's not really efficient and he can be a little inconsistent, sort of like Aldridge but a tad worse.

Is Hedo still a good option in 2 years, in hopefully what is the beginning of this teams prime years? Tough call, and I think I'm leaning towards no.

I think a lot of your predictions are based on hopes and potential.

I "think" Nicolas improves a lot next year.

I "think" Oden comes around next year.

I "would like" the Blazers to add another PG.

To many ifs. Turkoglu makes us better, period.

Turkoglu and his un-athletic self may actually be good for his durability. Since his game isn't predicated on athleticism, he might be productive well into his 30s.

I've already said Turk makes the Blazers better, but for how long? Is he worth it? Is he the missing piece?

I don't "think" so. I "think" a PG is much more important.

So how is he going to create for others if it's easy to contain him? If he can't put the ball on the floor anymore he's just a jump shooter.

And people still seem to be overlooking the fact he shot what, 41% last year? Eww.

I doubt he loses his ability to drive. I mean, even now, he's not particularly fast or imposing. It's mainly because he's a 6-10 guy with crazy handles. That's how he gets to the rim.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

4 of Hedo's 6 games vs Philly:

2-8
3-10
2-12
3-14

3 vs Boston

6-16
4-14
3-13

4 out of 6 vs Cleveland

4-11
1-11(!!!)
5-13
3-12

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

Yes, we do.

Roy and Aldridge carried this team against Houston. It was painfully obvious in that series that we needed a third option.

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

Yes

I think it's probably reasonable to expect 2-3 good years, one year of decline and his last year he'll at least be a valuable 12 million dollar expiring contract. To be honest I think it's going to take Nic at least two more years to become a productive offensive player and if all goes according to plan (I know it never does) he can hopefully step in to a more prominent role.

So 2-3 years of Hedo Turkoglu, one year of Frye and one year of Raef LaFrentz.

Yeah ... maybe. Who knows we could get lucky and see 2-3 years of Hedo, 1 year of Blake and one year of Frye?

Re: Do We Even Need TurkeyBoy?

Dude. Trust me. He is exactly who we need on this team.

1) Legit third option.
2) Versatile. Can play PG.

:biglaugh:

Thanks a bunch. The PG claim made me blow V8 all over my laptop.

I like Hedo for a backup forward (Channing's spot) at around $5 mil/yr, but no way would I sit Travis, Batum or even Webster on the bench for him to start.

His best days are behind him and their best is yet to come. All three are more creative than Hedo and he brings little improvement in their weak spot of rebounding. It would have made sense adding him to the /2003/2004 team rather than break it up but it's too little too late now.

This, and the rest of the moves lately by the Blazers suggest the talk of a dynasty, or even the talk of an uptempo team, was just talk and we're tanking that idea for a single shot at something (not sure what but I don't see even a single title in the cards with no PG to speak of).

Is your laptop okay? What kind of laptop do you use? I broke my last one when I spilled water on it. Sucked baaaaaaaalls.

His laptop has not been OK since about the 2nd grade. Every time Maris, who is a basketball savant, writes some thoughtful observation about the Blazers, it comes out all gibberish. It's as if someone installed a computer virus on his laptop that transposes his thoughts... :devilwink:

But he's never once attempted to fix it!:tsktsk:
