Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did some of you people just turn into Knicks fans who boo the picks no matter what?

What an epic fucking meltdown and overreaction.

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, let's not overreact, let's wait to get the whole picture, give KP the benefit of the doubt, blah, blah, blah.

Steve Francis is a big time talent, Frye's future is bright, and we get a draft pick. We got a GREAT deal!

Oh wait, we're cutting Francis but will still be paying him for years. No problem, Frye will be really awesome and we have that draft pick, and some cap space in the future. We got a GREAT deal!

Oh wait, we picked a guy who can't come over because of contract issues. No problem, Frye will be awesome. We got a GREAT deal!

Oh wait, Frye sucks and we're renouncing him? No problem, we got Rudy to come over, and we should have some awesome cap space. We got a GREAT deal!

Oh wait, we don't have as much cap space as we'd hoped for so we have to give away Sergio. No problem, we have Rudy. We got a GREAT deal!

Sir, I've seen the "Big Picture" and it isn't pretty. Hopefully, KP will redeem himself by Pritchslapping someone, and making this mess make sense. If so, I'll sing his praises. But until he does, he's Pritchslapped himself as far as I am concerned.

So you'd prefer to have kept Zach Randolph still? I'd rather have Lamarcus Aldridge developing into an All Star, Rudy Fernandez, the free agent spending money we'll have this off season, and having the positive influence of Jones and Frye in the locker room over the past couple of seasons. This did net us 54 wins I might add.

You keep Zach though, k? See how that works out.

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps we are the ones who have pritchslapped ourselves for:

1. Inventing the term Pritchslap.
2. Expecting tons of action from the front office on draft day every year.

1) No, I don't think we necessarily should have Zach now. You are ignoring the point of the post to be cute. Not surprising, it's been a long day for all of us. I think we should get good value for our trades - we didn't.

2) You are ignoring the fact that we, as fans, have paid for the trade with less wins and more losses.

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Days before the draft "KP BETTER ADD VETS WE DONT WANT TO ADD ANY MORE YOUNG GUYS TO THIS ROSTER!!!"

After the Draft "KP BLEW IT HE DIDNT DRAFT THIS YOUNG GUY I WANTED! KP IS WORTHLESS CAUSE HE DIDNT GET A YOUNG GUY!!!"

There is some truth to this, but KP

1) Got more rookies when his coach didn't want more rookies, and we were already the youngest team....
2) Got rookies who will take up cap space, defeating his own cap space plan.
3) Now that I think of it, I don't think KP Pritchslapped himself, I think he Pritchslapped US!

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually hoping there's some logical explanation for all of this. There was in previous years. Anyone know of an article that interviewed KP tonight?

Just a question cause I really dont know the answer. Cant they wait to be signed to guaranteed contracts till later? like say after the 15 of July?

Re: 3 more rookie scrubs! exactly what we did not need!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the are, our bench will suck.

BNM

Please explain how Pendergraph, Cunningham, and Mills are less than Frye, Randolph, and Bayless.

What I see are similarly talented, yet younger players with renewed potential and at lower or as low salaries. Plus, the incoming bigs provide skills that Portland needs more, bringing in defense and toughness.

This year's Mills will be able to fill the same role that last year's Bayless did; however, given Mills' greater experience, I expect his inconsistencies to be less.

This might be a moot point though. Who knows where these players are headed. Pritch did mention that Mills has a passport, so maybe he's going to encourage him to play overseas for one season.

I'm pretty sure that they still have a cap hold, signed or not.

okie doke, thanks for the clarification.

I think he meant "playing rotation". If so, he's right. If those guys are in the playing rotation, our bench will suck. If they are not in the playing rotation, then they are basically irrelevant.

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How the fuck do some of you make rash judgements before you're able to see the complete picture?

I'd hate to see how reactionary some of you are in other aspects of your life.

My one year old can't do addition yet, so I cashed in his college fund and went to Vegas. What's your point?

You can't be serious?

This is like the "Taurean Green will win us 5 games or so" quote.

Re: KP choking again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think for the first time, we saw KP being reactive instead of proactive. I think something went horribly wrong tonight in terms of projecting out the draft and we didn't have an answer to it, so we made some gut picks.

Hansbrough going in the lottery and Jrue Holiday dropping to 17 come to mind.

Why? Because the Blazers didn't draft Blair? A guy they passed twice on? What went so horribly wrong?

Easy. Frye and Randolph have proven they can play in the NBA. They aren't great, but they are known quantities. Bayless was a lottery pick and averaged 29 PPG in the summer league. Yeah, I know it was the summer league, but what has Mills, the 55th pick in a weak draft proven. Bayless put up better numbers as a freshman in the Pac10 than Mills did as a sophomore in the WCC.

There's a reason Pendergraph, Cunningham and Mills couldn't crack the 1st round in the weakest draft in a decade - they aren't very good.

I agree that it was possible their projections didn't go as they thought. But KP did say that he and his staff do 1000s of mock drafts, so I think they had an answer for everything.
It's just that Plan A probably did go as scheduled, and either Plan B, C or D was carried out. Of course, he'll say he got the players he wanted but I guess we'll never know.

I can understand people wanting to believe that Pendergraph and Mills might contribute.....but Cunningham? If you believe he is an NBA player, you really are drinking the kool-aid. He is undersized for PF, and unlike someone like Blair or Brockman doesn't compensate by being a monster rebounder. He doesn't have the quickness, shooting, or ball-handling ability to move to SF. In a fair competition, S Randolph beats him out for 12th man.

He actually has a pretty decent mid range game, but he doesn't blow you away really. He's just the ultimate tough hard working player that plays his hardest until the whistle blows.

I agree with this, I was really surprised we did not get Blair there...

I think we'll be okay. We're in a great situation to now greatly improve a 54 win team.

Trimming Rodriguez's salary inflates the organization's available cap space by $1.8million. General manager Kevin Pritchard said the team's draft choice at No. 22 -- Victor Claver -- will end up being stashed overseas next season, which frees an additional $950,000 in cap room. The Blazers could have more than $10 million available to pursue free agents beginning July 1, possibly more if they renounce the rights to Joel Freeland and Petteri Koponen. They've also retained a trade exception that would allow the organization to make a lopsided deal if it chooses to do so.

Why would I say something that I wasn't serious about?

And it's nothing like the Green/5 games prophecy. Bayless didn't lose any games for us last year. Mills isn't going to either if he has Bayless's insignificant role. I could see that Mills will have more trust from McMillan, which will possibly allow him more minutes. I suppose that could turn into more opportunities for Mills to put more of an imprint on next season than Bayless put on last season.

"General manager Kevin Pritchard said the team's draft choice at No. 22 -- Victor Claver -- will end up being stashed overseas next season, which frees an additional $950,000 in cap room."

Did this come from Canzano? If it did, no surprise there as it's absolutely 100% inaccurate. Claver will immediately count against our cap space to the tune of $1,012,900 - whether or not we stash him in Europe, whether or not he ever plays a minute for the Blazers. He will continue to count against our cap every summer until we renounce his rights. So, drafting him didn't free $950,000 in cap space, it reduces our cap space by over a million dollars.

I personally think he would have been available at 31 - which would have meant no cap hold.
