It's 2 years 21 million with 4 million in incentives according to the Oregonian.

Interested to see what those incentives are. 2 a year for winning a title?

Could be or maybe a number of games played each year. Camby has had a lot of missed games.

How is this a bad deal?

2 years? perfect length, and Camby would have gotten close to $10 million from some other team out there, and after seeing what he brings to the table on defense, I am happy that POR has apparently resigned him....He could be a good mentor for Oden as well...

and I'd like to see POR resign Howard for that 14th/15th spot...I think he still has a little game left in those legs, and his role (hopefully) would be more of that insurance, rather than the larger role he played this year due to injuries...

Re: Marc Stein: Blazers in talks with Camby about extension now!!!

If the deal is for real, I like it. For a player of Camby's age, I'd prefer to pay him more per year at the trade off of signing him for fewer years. A one- or two-year deal is ideal. I'm okay with paying him a lot per year, so long as it's a short commitment. He is playing at a very high level, and he's the kind of player who could push the Blazers over the top next year or year after. That's worth a free agent premium.

Bulls-eye.

People focus too much on the dollars, when the real killer is the length. No matter how bad a short term deal works out, it is survivable. With the impending lock-out, this is effectively a 1 year deal, making the risk minimal.

Heh. I wonder if this changes the "A" grade ESPN gave the Clippers on the Blake/Outlaw for Camby trade because they assumed that Camby would re-sign with the Clips this summer?

People always forget about the Portland factor. That is the city itself. People come here and fall in love with the actual city. Look at guys like Steve Blake. I'm sure Camby had no intention at first to stay here but now look.

This should put some shock waves out there in the NBA. First a road team beats a home team, now the wrap up Camby for 2 more years. I'm thinking that Rudy and Joel packaged together at the deadline makes a huge splash for the Blazers, I am really hoping that Rudy makes the most of Brandon being out, but he really fizzed last night. This is going to help Portland in the long run, Camby can play with either Oden or Aldridge, it's going to be a huge block party all year long.....I'm stoked. :D

Hopefully with a full, healthy off-season under his belt Pendergraph comes back a little more NBA ready and able to pick up spot minutes at either the 4 or the 5 as needed. But to resign Juwan I hope it's as an assistant coach and not as a player. His influence on the players is great, but his influence on the game itself? Maybe not so much.

I have thought this for a while. I would love to bring him on as a coach. But he is adamant on playing one more year, that I know.

I'm thinking Minny would be a decent trade partner. That team needs shooting at the guard and wing spots in the worst way (especially if they are intent on running the triangle) and having Rudy might be a nice inducement to getting Rubio to commit to coming over. In that situation maybe we try to ply one of their hundred spare point guards from them -- Sessions springs to mind as a true, pass first, pick and roll point guard miscast in the triangle. That might not qualify as a huge "splash" but it could be a nice pick-up and give this team an heir apparent to Miller who wouldn't be a total rook at the position.

Sessions ain't worth Przy or Rudy alone.

I guess I disagree, his first three years in the league when he played in strictly pick and roll systems (mostly under Skiles) he flourished and posted very good numbers (number of trips to the line, assist percentages, field goal perncentage, etc.) and only when placed in Minny's bizarre, bastardized version of the the triangle (which needs floor spacers at the point guard spot and a usually a dominant large guard or wing) that he really struggled to produce.

Let's face it, Pryz's career might be over, and Rudy is nothing all that special. Certainly if there was a Rudy plus Joel package floated out there more would have to come back to us because the salaries wouldn't match (unless Minny still has cap room to spare) but you vastly overrate Rudy and Joel's worth all things considered.

His on/off numbers were some of the highest of any Minnesota player (despite a drop in his own individual production)

I have never viewed Sessions as a pass first guard, and I don't think he solves anything here. In fact, I would go so far as to say not many players in Minnesota solve anything here.

I think we could get something far better than sessions for pryz and rudy

I agree. I'd be very happy to get Sessions for a JPEC/Rudy package. I've felt Sessions was a young Andre Miller type, and I'd be pretty happy with having him here as a backup for the next season or two, learning from Miller.

Assist percentages of 43%, 30% and 25% (not surprisingly the lowest with a team with no weapons to pass to).

He would be a 'buy low' kind of player if we traded for him, but I think in the right system he could pretty easily get back to his PER of 17 that he averaged his first two years in the league.

Like who? Rudy has regressed in a big way, and Joel's career is very much in jeopardy given his age and the severity of his injury.

I'm not a huge Sessions fan, personally, and don't see him and Bayless being a good piring off the bench for us, with Bayless in the more scoring role. I think a deal of Joel for Hinrich would be more beneficial on many fronts. The deal works financially, and it saves Chicago a little over a million on the cap this offseason. Also, with a cheaper owner in Reinsdorf, having an insurance covered contract could be nice. Hinrich can float between the 1 and 2, like Bayless. He plays solid defense on PGs, but also on SGs. You can realistically have him and Bayles son the floor, and not lose out on either end. He'd space the floor better than our other guards currently, which would be beneficial if we got rid of Rudy. He's also got playoff experience. I didn't love the idea of grabbing him last year, before we got Miller, but off the bench, I think he would be a great pickup. He'd also provide good insurance in the unlikely event that Miller got hurt, as you can start eithe rhim or Bayless at the 1, and still have a backup combo guard on the bench. I'd trade Joel for him, and look to make a separate deal involving Rudy, and either Martell, or on the offchance we can S&T for Bosh, then Rudy and Aldirdge.

I like a 4 guard rotation of:

Miller/Hinrich
Roy/Bayless
Think of situational defense of Hinrich, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, Oden.

S&T JPEC/Rudy for Ray Allen. Win now. Bring him off the bench as instant offense. Celts will tear down and rebuild after this season, Allen is a FA.

I'm being a smartass! Camby has been great and I'm glad we wrapped him up! It just kinda reminds me of the Theo situation. Just saw him in the lobby.......... shoulda' asked him to buy me lunch!

TREC did help us get Roy and RLEC (-> Miller).

No need to re-sign howard. Now, more than ever with Miller and Camby both likely done in 2 years (or earlier if age gives in) we need to load the pipeline. Get high risk high reward young players at the PG and PF/C to fill out the 14th and 15th spots on the roster.

Bring in our Brit and our Finn. High risk players, but possibly high-reward, too.

Looking like the holdup is that the Blazers and Camby inked an incentive laden deal with bonuses that are almost too easy to reach. So easy in fact, that the league sees it as and attempt to pull a fast one on them and manuver around the salary cap so the tax the Blazers will have to pay next year when they are OVER the cap will be less.

Dammit. If only Tom Penn had been here to work up this contract.
