Don't play dumb, I know you, Cunningham, Mills and Pendergraph have a regular D&D game going. How's your elven wizard doing?

HCP doesn't have an elven wizard. It's a gnome illusionist that casts spells to make himself look bigger than he really is.

Blazers, veteran center agree on deal
Camby: Fans 'are main reason why I decided to stick around'

By Kerry Eggers

The Portland Tribune, Apr 19, 2010, Updated 24 minutes ago

PHOENIX – The Trail Blazers have agreed to a contract extension for Marcus Camby.

And the Portland fans get a big assist for their part in the deal, which is subject to NBA approval, something the team hopes to come Monday or Tuesday.

The veteran center said he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received since coming to the Blazers in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers in February.

Camby was touched by the reception last week when he was serenaded with “Mar-cus Cam-bee!” chants at the Rose Garden late in the Blazers’ victory over Oklahoma City.

“Ever since I got to Portland, everywhere I’ve gone, the people have embraced me like I’ve been a Blazer my whole career – or actually, like I’m originally from Portland,” he said. “Everybody has been really gracious. Everybody has been thanking me – the fans have been tremendous.

“They’re the main reason why I decided to stick around, as well as us having a great group of guys on the team, and the coaching staff.”

Camby could have become a free agent on July 1. The Blazers wanted to prevent that because they like Camby, both as a player and as a person who fits in well chemistry-wise with his teammates. Also, centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla are recovering from knee surgeries, with Przybilla not expected to see action again before December.

“I’m a big-time loyalty guy,” Camby said. “I never had a chance to go into free agency. In New York, I re-signed with the Knicks. When I was in Denver, I re-signed with Denver. This was the right thing to do this time, too.”

Camby, 36, is making $7.65 million this season in the final year of his current contract. He wouldn’t confirm numbers on his two-year extension, but the deal is expected to bring him $21 million over two years, including incentives. He is eligible for a base salary next season of no more than $8.4 million.

Sounds like the fans made a difference!

MAR-CUS CAM-BEE CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!!!

I haven't read this 5-pager thread, but I just saw it on the Oregonian, and it's great news!! Camby fits in with my master plan to get more experience! I'm glad they listened to me!

He's making more than 7.65 this season.

No. It's common knowledge that Mark Warkentien orchestrated that Travis+Blake for Camby swap by dumping Camby on the Clips for a second round pick two years ago ... yes, Mark Warkentien is THAT good!

Have you seen the Magic/Bird documentary on HBO. This post reminds of when Arcinio Hall was saying how Bird was overrated. Then gave an example of someone making a basket and even if Bird was not dressed for the game he would get credit. Hall would put on his announcers voice and say "Larry Bird made that posssible. Two weeks ago he was telling the player he shoud look for his shot more and sure enought the player took Bird's advise. Bird is amazing."

It was something like that . . . of course if you didn't see it you don't know what the hell I'm taling about. So if you could just nod your head in agreement and roll your eyes after I turn away I would appreciate it.

That's nice to hear about him appreciating the fans. But the truth is we gave him at least as much as he could expect to earn anywhere else--probably more. He can now move his family up here if he wants as soon as his kids are out of school and have a relaxing summer.

He got paid the most he could get, he can start planning right now for the summer, he's playing for a contender next year, and the fans and team have been good to him. What's not for him to like?

:smiley-yup:

:rolleyes2:

Would Joel & Rudy work for Devin Harris? Pretty sure then Nets are going to take John Wall if they get the 1st pick, Harris would be a nice addition would he?

Having four guards, Miller, Harris, Roy, and Bayless would be a nice mixture of players. I'm just not sold on Bayless being a PG, I can see him backing up Roy more. Honestly I'd have to think about what Portland really needs long term, mostly backup players at the present.....drop at the PF when Aldridge leaves the game.

I would think other teams would be able to offer something better for Harris. He had a bad year, but is a quality player.

Harris gets injured a lot. Those are his games played the last 5 seasons. I wonder if he could be persuaded into coming off the bench in order to "keep him fresh" until Miller leaves.

I LOVE this signing. The pessimist in me had Camby leaving after this year and telling everyone how "appreciative" he was of his opportunity. Glad to see he went back on his word and resigned with us.

I know the money's great, but it didn't seem like he was too thrilled to be here at first. He and Oden are going to be a tough match up... barring any injuries, of course.

allen was the one who decided to resign him...

much like the miles and ratliff deals.

Man, that trade of Blake/Outlaw for Camby looks even more fantastic now than it did at the time. We never could've signed him for this money without his bird rights, and besides, there's no way he'd really have considered coming here with our wealth of bigs.

On top of that, Blake and Outlaw lay giant turds on the Clippers, destroying what little value they had around the league. So if we want there's a decent chance we can get both those two back PLUS Camby next year. If we want.

I've completely forgiven the whole Hedon't escapade from last summer.

I don't know about Blake destroying his value. He upped his PER, shot a ridiculous 44% from 3pt, and averaged 6 assists in 26 minutes per game while only turning the ball over twice per game.

Blake played very well for the Clips. Hope he gets a nice contract. I bet he ends up back home in Miami or Orlando.

I actually kind of think the Lakers will throw a little bit of money at him; they need a floor spacer to replace Fisher at least as a backup, but yeah, I can see Miami taking a flier on him, especially with their unsettled situation with Chalmers and Arroyo.

Blake would work well with Kobe actually. If he signs, I'm getting a Blake Laker jersey!

I could see Blake going to the Lakers. He more often than not stepped it up when we played LA. They probably prefer to have him on their side.

Re: Marc Stein: Blazers in talks with Camby about extension now!!!

i agree maxie...

i think camby starts off the year as starter like blake did but oden (if and its a huge if can sty healthy) starts by thanksgiving and camby comes off bench as main backup to oden and la

oden if healthy makes them a deadly trio
What did you do with Mixum? :devilwink:

Blake is going to go to the Lakers and hit a shot that beats Portland in game 7 of a WCF.

He'll do nothing else. Just that. And then probably retire.

I could see Blake tearing it up in LA and a bunch of Blazer fans complaining about how we gave up on him too soon.

Right up to the point where Camby caps him from behind on a rare Steve Blake foray toward the hoop.

Blake played the best basketball of his career with the Clippers including a triple double in a closing night blowout of the Lakers. Lots of teams will want Blake. Outlaw wasn't great but he wasn't awful either. His closing night game was good too.

On a horrible Clippers team. I still think some of Blake's best and most consistent play was that 1/2 season in Denver. Still surprised the Nuggets didn't do more to retain him at that time.
