http://www.theknicksblog.com/2010/06/23/source-new-orleans-holding-on-to-paul/

A source has informed me that the Nets and Hornets were in serious talks for Chris Paul which fell through after New Orleans demanded New Jersey take Emeka Okafor in the deal. Rod Thorn and the Nets want to preserve cap space for the upcoming free agency class that includes Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade.

The source says that their were “talks” and “offers” exchanged, but the idea fell through when Thorn refused to take on Okafor’s $10,797,500 salary. The Nets believe that with Mikhail Prokorov as their owner, Avery Johnson as their coach, a legitimate young core, and the second most money to spend in free agency this summer, they are in good shape and will be a playoff team next year.

The source said, “Now it is pretty much 99% they hold on to him [Paul] now.”

Sooooo Looks like the Nets could have had Paul for this trade

#3, Devin Harris for Paul and Okafor

There has GOT TO BE a way for us to get them a deal they like, is there any way??? This can happen and i dont think KP has given up on it, neither should we

A few things...

1. If we trade with them, they want expirings (Joel, Andre).

2. Those expirings are not enough (duh), so you would have to add in some talent.

3. That talent has to be on the cheap because they're not trying to acquire big salary (Roy, Aldridge)

What does that leave you with as options? Our pick, Rudy, Batum, Bayless pretty much (along with the previously mentioned expirings). The odds of it working out aren't too high because I think we would have to be able to give them a high draft pick as well.

Right, so somehow combine bayless and rudy to get in the top 8 or higher, and then trade Andre joel batum and the pick

You could throw Camby in the deal for Okafor and Paul and get to the magic number.

New Chris Paul & Portland info

Wojo....FWIW...

When the possibility of the Portland Trail Blazers making a bid on Paul was brought to him, a source said, Paul’s reaction was simple: Why would I want to go there if they have to trade LaMarcus Aldridge(notes) or Brandon Roy(notes) to get me? I’d want to play with those players.

Portland has bordered on tampering with Paul for two years now, and it’s never been much of a secret within the Hornets’ organization that the Blazers have gone to great lengths to make Paul aware of how badly they want him. It didn’t go unnoticed when Blazers president Larry Miller – a former Nike executive who had dealings with Paul – cozied up to the Hornets star on New Orleans’ trips to the Rose Garden. It is what it is, but most agree the Blazers have been merciless in trying to get into Paul’s ear – and those around him – to convince him to create a stir and force his way out.

Re: One more Chris Paul Thread

Even Bower says he’ll evaluate all offers, and those who made calls into New Orleans on Wednesday say that bids for the franchise point guard weren’t immediately rejected, but rather put on the big board in the Hornets’ facility. Chris Paul is still the face of the franchise, still the biggest star in Hornets history. Just understand this: He’s no longer untouchable.

Re: One more Chris Paul Thread

Tampering? WTF, Wojadouche. Quit your diatribe on PDX already. Everyone knows you have a vendetta.

Omg... I can't believe how much of a hard-on AWoj has for the Blazer's front office. It's bordering on creepy.

Re: One more Chris Paul Thread

Damn....please KP, make it happen, just keep LMA ROY and ODEN, trade the rest of the team

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

Woj being an arse again.

What is his problem with the Blazers?

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

The first part, I understand. To get Paul (or LeBron) would cost us the core of our team and make us basically a Superstar and 11 also-rans.

thing is, isn't it all but impossible to trade Brandon and LaMarcus because of their contracts (outside of trading to someone WAAAY under the cap)?

That and the whole thing about LeBron coming here just screams "web click" material.

Hey CP3, neither guy was mentioned in the proposed deal reported by Quick. Feel better now? Then demand a trade!

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

no, their contracts aren't all that prohibitive. Brandon's is tougher, but it just takes a contract coming back in the 13-16M (or higher) range to do, which is the level of what the names we're talking about are.

In fact, if you wanted to put them both together, LMA + Roy could be sent out for 25M coming back. So they couldn't be sent out in a S&T for one of the max FA's, but could in a package.

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

KP was talking awful cheerfully with Disco Dan and Frye when they were here with PHX for the retro game. Was that tampering too, trying to get those guys to play here?

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

I know its not happening....but it's so much fun to think about.

Re: New Chris Paul & Portland info

The key to making any trade happen is Oden. Cheap salary, young, a lot of potential, and plays a needed position if they unload Okafor to us (and fits with West). Give up Oden and Batum and any draft picks we have and/or acquire. I know, I am about the only one who would give up Oden, not because I have lost my faith, but because Paul, Roy, and Aldridge are just to dreamy.

I think KP is trying to maneuver into a CP3 trade. I have a feeling he is trying to acquire assets that the Hornets would want. Wouldn't it be interesting if we were able to move up, grab a top ten pick, and then use our expirings, some talent, and a pick to nab CP3? I think it's obvious that KP has set his sights on Paul, and now he's just trying to find a combination that will work.

STOP STOP STOP..... sigh.... sad how much these thoughts can consume one

Maybe I'm crazy but I kind of would put Batum in there ahead of LMA. =\

Oh man going to work is going kick my ass tomorrow.

Aldridge is always considered a third fiddle. He may not be perfect (and I have compalined about him in the past), but he would be the perfect third fiddle to these two IMO. Batum is nice, but is not the proven scorer Aldridge is.
