The announcer said there is a rumor going around Vegas that Jarrett Jack will sign with the Raptors.

BC is working it this summer.

PG: Calderon
SG: Jack
SF: Turkoglu
PF: Bosh
C: Bargnani

Not bad.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

JJ doesn't create much, and he's only 6'3" I think he was also resigned to the Pacers

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

He had a 13.1 PER last season and owns a 13.3 career PER. As a starting two guard, I'm unenthused by this move.

You're right, it's not bad. It's also not good.

Fielding a mediocre team for many years is one of the worst positions to be at. You don't have a chance to accomplish anything in the playoffs, but you can't get the draft slot to grab an elite player.

The only way it can get much worse is by having a bunch of overpaid long-term contracts.

It's more not good, than not bad.

It's not worse than what they started with though, and none of the players are pissed off that they don't have a deal yet, so............

............so, you could make a very real and not laughable argument that the Raptors are actually in better shape than Portland? Come on, don't chicken out. Finish that sentence, man. Put yourself out there for what you believe!

Meant purely for light hearted reading. I don't think for a second that they are in better shape than Portland. They were worse though, and they are not as worse at this moment as they were last year.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

Nice addition, but I don't know about him as a starting 2!

I know. I was just ribbing you. Toronto is better on the floor, but whether the big contracts they handed out leaves them in better shape in terms of future contention, I'm not so sure.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

I'll say this for BC, he isn't letting limited resources/opportunities become an excuse for inaction. There are teams out there worse than the Raps who are just treading water. BC is at least *trying*. It may fail, but better to fail trying than to just give up.

Better still to be responsible and give the team hope of contending one day. I'm not sure locking in mediocrity, because mediocrity is better than being slightly below mediocrity, is good. Nash went that route...what do you think deals to Randolph, Miles and Ratliff were?

Colangelo is active like Nash was. May God have mercy on the Raptors' souls and such-like.

They are from Canada. They don't have souls or such-like up there.

Interesting analogy...but in fairness, I can't compare Hedo and Bargs to Miles and Ratliff. ;)

On a serious note, I'm not sure all teams can afford to follow the "jump in a pit and hope the fans come back when you crawl out" model. What if you aren't sure the fans *will* come back? It wouldn't shock me if BC was under a degree of outside pressure to make sure the NBA doesn't lose the Toronto market the way they lost Vancouver.

From a certain perspective, a mediocre team that is just surviving in Toronto might beat the alternative.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

The Raptors have been very profitable and their fanbase strong, despite the relative lack of success in the franchise's history (only one playoff series win in 10+ years). I don't think anyone's all that worried about the team moving out of this market. MLSE (Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment) are one of the more stable ownership groups in North American sports.

Also, Jack will be brought in as our backup PG not our starting SG.

That may be worse.

You will experience many Jackisms which will make you facepalm. I feel your suffering even before it begins.

Yes, backup PG is a position that Jack is particularly ill-suited for. Unless you like charging fouls and turnovers.
You should consider playing him at another position, maybe broadcaster or assistant coach.

Good luck.

Merge with post of two days ago: "BC outgunning KP?"

Now he's courting Jack. OK, OK, I know who we're talking about....but BC is outgunning KP!

...and if he can get BOSH to sign an extension, rather than waiting until the season ends! Then he DID outgun KP!

Totally. Wish we had Toronto's roster. Some teams are just blessed with brilliant GMs.

Why can't Portland ever get good players like Jarrett Jack?

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

Yuck... Toronto is so bad right now. They're not exactly upgrading their talent, they're just replacing their talent with other equally as talented guys.

half-joking...cut me some slack! :dunno:

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

Like Chut said, back-up PG and I like that addition. I still want Daniels on this team, I think he would bring a solid starting SG.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

I like Jack - so I think this was a nice addition in the backup position. Does this mean that the Ukic experiment is over?

I hope not because someone on realgm has a hilarious signature of the kid from Ratatouille representing Ukic and it makes me giggle.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

Am I the only one who thinks Jack is a good player? Seems like he is still suffering here from being the scapegoat 2 years ago..pretty sad.
Good luck Jarrett.

So, who is your starting SG, then? Are you still banking on getting Delfino back? I like Delfino's energy and defense, but he's not exactly starting SG material (he's only started 6 games in his 4-year NBA career and 4 of those were as a rookie). He'd be great to have to shore up your bench, but I actually think Jack would be a better starting 2 than Delfino. Jack is a better shooter and a better passer.

The problem is adding both Jack and Hedo to your starting line-up would making your starting unit very turnover prone (Hedo averaged 2.6 TO/G last season and Jack averaged 2.2 - which is actually an improvement for him given the minutes he played). Adding those two your starters would averaged about 10 TO/G. You'd have kind of a high risk/high reward starting 5 - several guys who can make great passes, but also turn the ball over a lot as a result of trying to force things that aren't there.

Actually, if you can figure out a way to get a starting caliber SG AND get Deflino back AND get Jack, I think a second unit backcourt of Jack and Delfino would be pretty good. Problem is, that would take three transactions. Do you guys have Delfino's Bird Rights? If so, you can sign him with no cap restrictions, but that leaves only the MLA and bi-annual exception to sign both Jack and a starting SG. You MIGHT be able to get one of the two with the MLE, but I don't see getting Jack (Jack is an RFA and Indiana would match) or a decent starting SG for the bi-annual exception.

No, you aren't.

Jack's sin is that he makes visible mistakes, while Blake makes *invisible* mistakes by being too passive and conservative.

In fairness, JJ is a combo guard who never appeared to mesh well with Roy. Blake is a below average PG - but he *is* a PG, and Roy seems to like playing alongside him.

We have the bird rights to Delfino, so he could be brought in without dipping into our exceptions. There are also rumours that our offer sheet to Jack is backloaded, so that we'd have saved more of our MLE to spend on a SG or SF. I have a feeling we've earmarked our Bi-annual for Nesterovic.

I like Delf as our starter. I think he's versatile enough and a more complete/composed scorer than Jack. It's hard to blame him for not starting in the NBA yet. In Detroit he was stuck behind Billups/Hamilton and in the single season with Toronto, Anthony Parker was a veteran leader firmly entrenched at that spot. If he had stayed with us for more than that year, I think there would've been a strong chance that he usurps AP. The year he was with us, he looked like the soon-to-be successor to Parker.

No, you are not the only one. I like Jack, always did and likely, always will. He is not likely going to be a star -
but he is a useful NBA player that can win you 3-4 games a year when he gets really hot.

If there is one place where I question KP - is the Webster extension - he was wounded, he had 3 sub-par seasons before - and we gave him $5m per? While Jack was sent packing? Yikes.
