Merged: The Draft Thread For Stuff About The Draft Including Thoughts About The Draft

Okay, same question to you then. Who in this draft do you see who is as good a defender, has at least a moderate post game and can has a jump shot?

I assume you agree we need help in holding or backing up the C and PF positions.
Pasecniks as a backup C, who is likely available at 26, I think he's as good and will be as good as Zach

I don't dislike him, but he isn't even close to the defender ZCollins is. Nor is he as good a rebounder and he is and Zach is almost two years younger.

we don't really have enough data to make that judgement with these young guys IMO, I'll stand by my position that Pasceniks will be the better player

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I think ORL takes Smith and MIN takes Markkanen.
I can't imagine how the Wolves could possibly value Markkanen over Isaac. Possible, I guess, but it would certainly shock me.

I'm not suggesting that they would or wouldn't take Markkanen over Isaac, but if they did, I imagine their reasoning would be that their biggest weakness (on offense) is spacing. Markkanen (if he pans out) solves that. You could project Isaac to be a good shooter, but he's a very inconsistent one now. Even if he pans out overall but ends up not being a good perimeter shooter, you could continue to have a team of talented but mismatched pieces.

Makes sense. Putting a 7' 255 lb PF next to Wiggins and Towns (with Deng backing him up ) looks pretty good to me. The wolves lack outside shooting and Markkanen is considered by some as one of the best shooters in the draft.

MIN was dead last in made 3-pointers this season. They don't really need any more slasher types, they need 3-point shooting. Markkanen was the best 3-point shooting 7-footer in NCAA history. So, he definitely fills a need. Too bad taking him may cause them t pass on a better all around player. It's the classic need vs. BPA decision.

With #15, #20, and #26, I'd like to see some combination of
Justin Jackson
Bell
Thornwell
Rabb
Giles

I'm sure that will change as we get closer to the draft, but for now, there it is.

Thornwell in the first???

Let's place a bet!

It just dawned on me that the whole top 10 of the draft could (and maybe more likely will) be a freshman sweep. That can't have ever happened any other year, correct?

No. It would probably take CJ plus all our picks plus a couple of future picks.

No doubt someone will suggest they could take Crabbe, Leonard, Ezeli and no. 20!
I wouldn't offer up Meyers right away. I'd wait and offer him up at the last minute as "sweetener" to seal the deal. Let them feel like they are taking advantage of us.

I assume this was discussed, but somehow I missed it. Kind of odd.....

6 days ago – via CSNNW.com
Gonzaga center Zach Collins met with 13 teams at the NBA Combine, but it was his first meeting – with the Trail Blazers – that left an impression. “It was kind of funny because Portland actually just sent out their team psychologist, and no one else from the staff was there,’’ Collins said. “The lady gave me a computer and I took a personality test, kind of, and she just analyzed who I was as a person, and that was it.’’

yes. An SG who can shoot, play defense, has size, and can do a little of everything, and is a hard-working, mature 4-year senior. Sounds good to me.
Sounds like Brogdon. He went in the second round. He has also been the best acquisition of 2016 draft so far.

We could just sign him as an undrafted free agent.

He's only 6'5 for a SG, too slow to create shots, his release isnt quick, and he's not that great of a shooter. No upside past what he is already.

What's your guys current pipedream:? Here's mine:

-Trade Harkless, Leonard, Turner, 15, 20, and a 2018 Future 1st to SAC for 10 and 34
-Draft Zach Collins
-Trade Davis/Aminu, 26, and a future 2nd to Indiana for 17. (They need a backup PF)
-Draft Justin Jackson
-Trade Davis/Aminu, Ezeli 34 to ATL for 31 (cap dump)
-At 31, draft J.Motley, D.White, T.Bryant, J.Bell, A.Pesecniks, I.Rabb or P.J.Dozier.

Going into free agency: ($20M in cap space):
Lillard / Napier
McCollum / Crabbe
Jackson / ?
Vonleh / Bell
Nurkic / Collins

-Trade with Boston for Jae Crowder after they sign Hayward. Give them Vonleh, the right to swap 2019 1sts and a 2020 1st
-Retain $17M in cap space:
-Pursue guys like James Johnson (2 years, $17M per year *T.O.* for 3rd year), Zach Randolph (MLE ~ $5M per year), and Thabo Sefelosha (BAE ~ $3M)
Lillard (35) / McCollum (13) / Napier
McCollum (22) / Crabbe (26) / ?
Crowder (30) / Sefelosha (15) / Jackson (3)
Johnson (28) / Randolph (20) / Bell
Nurkic (34) / Collins (14) / ?
Wow. That would be amazing.

You are correct. Never happened before.

Indeed a pipe dream, or just a typo, since it would not be possible to trade Davis and Aminu twice.

I don't want to draft an SG but if Donovan Mitchell was available at 15 I'd have to consider BPA and take him and get bigs at 20 and 26 and look to move Crabbe/Turner/Pat C etc. That guy IMO is going to be very good

Pretty sure the / is a either or.

I think it was just a typo, and that he didn't mean to add Aminu and Davis to the Ezeli trade. Both trades are reflected in the depth chart he listed so I don't think it is an "either or". He posts so many wild trade ideas that I had to take the opportunity for a "gotcha"

EDIT I'm wrong. You're right. BonesJones still posts wild blockbuster ass trade scenarios.
