Merged: The Draft Thread For Stuff About The Draft Including Thoughts About The Draft

I'm trying to remember anyone who WASN'T pissed at both the Turner and Crabbe deals.
There were lots at the time. It essentially went from being pissed about how much we gave Turner, to thinking Neil sucked. It seems like suggesting Neil is more flash than substance around here are fighting words for some.

Here is the win/loss % for the years with Olshey as our GM.
12/13 .402
13/14 .659
14/15 .622
15/16 .537
16/17 .500

The team now has better W/L % than when Olshey took over as GM.

However, after the huge improvement in the 13/14 season, it has all been downhill.

Olshey needs to turn around this downward trend, and improve our W/L %. But, with the salary cap/luxury tax situation, and Turner's and Crabbe's huge overpays, can he do it???

I was more down on the Crabbe deal than the Turner....I wanted Turner and was thrilled we didn't end up with Parsons instead....Turner is a better defender than people think...we needed defense badly at that point

Imagine if we would have been the ones stuck with Parsons.......ughh.
This place would be such a shit show (more so than it already is, and for good reason).

My guess is we are going to read one of two phrases in the morning online sports editions on Friday.

"If you expected the Blazers to make significant trades then you were disappointed."

Or

"No one saw what Olshey was planning to do last night."

Take a guess.

Olsheys not gonna do anything productive. Not really expecting much.

The Lakers will be making moves to get better though. Count on that.

Everyone was OK with acquiring Nurk and not paying Plums because Olshey paid everyone. :dunno:

But now we gotta pay Nurk. Or are we going to trade Nurk so we don't have to pay him in order to get a rookie contract Wilt Chamberlain? Because I'd be okay with that.

Olshey is reactive rather than proactive in terms of trades.

The most we'll see is another protected second rounder/Harkless type deal. Don't get me wrong, Harkless is solid but he doesn't vault this team - We're still in purgatory.

Sad but true. If we are going to have such a massive salary level, I miss the days of Trader Bob.

If we can make trades I'll offer POR #17 for #20 and #26 as well. Frank Jackson should fall to #26. #17 might be too high but he'd be a great pick for MIL.

#17 to BKN for #22 and #27 would be a possibility as well.

I bet we can't make trades though.
Harry Giles, huh? Sounds like a Bucks-like pick.

Pay Nurk or Plums?

Riiiiight.

I get it bringing in Lopez on an expiring contract is a future salary dump. However, that makes him the Fakers starting center next season. I had Ivica Zubac penciled in as playing most of the Fakers C minutes. Zubac was starting to show good game in his rookie season.

Guess my point is. Wonder if trading one of our first round picks for Zubac is a good idea? If the Fakers want more picks, and we want a big, is he better or worse than what we might get in the draft? I really do not know, but I do like his game, just do not understand the love for some of the bigs in this draft.

The Nurk deal was reactive - his hand was forced by Plumlee's RFA status this summer.

Would we have Nurk if Plumlee was locked up? I doubt it.

Probably not. BUT.... Now we have Nurk, and a healthy Nurk is worth far more than Plums.

So we have that going for us. Not sure how much more we could get in a similar deal where we tried to upgrade from our current C to a younger, longer contract, similar to the Plums-Nurk deal.

In case anyone cares, the Rip City Drive live mock draft came out with the Blazers picking John Collins at 15, OG Anunoby at 20, and Justin Patton at 26. The fact that Patton was still available at 26 completely invalidates their mock, but that's what happened.

No trade rumor here, just another trade idea.

Now that Russell is a Net, maybe J. Lin is on the market.

Jeremy Lin for Crabbe & #20.

Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. Dude even got a chance to explain himself on the radio, and he couldn't come up with something plausible like, "Gordon Hayward's leaving in free agency, so they need a scorer from the wing position to replace his production." Just, duhhhh...I'm a Duck fan...so, yeah...
