Why do guys like Quick keep saying they want to dump salary to get flexibility... no trade will give Blazers cap room... this is only about saving Paul Allen money

Exactly. It's not like we will be able to use the cap space in free agency, we won't be players in free agency for the next 3-4 years at all unless we also offload one of Dame or CJ, and even then it's possible we will still not have enough. On top of that, we had what, $40M in free cap last year? And we got Evan Turner as a return for that.

It'd only be to free up cap space to avoid paying luxury tax and more capable of extending Nurkic and maybe Vonleh next year. We can do that later, maybe some of the young players like Crabbe or Leonard start playing half decently and we find it easier. If Miles Plumlee's behemoth of a deal can be dealt twice then it's not unthinkable they will also go somewhere for an expiring contract or 2nd rounders or something.

You mean like all those Plumlee for Nurkic rumors? Olshey runs a very tight ship, so the less I hear the less concerned I am.

There was some Nurkic discussion before the trade happened....it just didn't come from Portland.

Where is that from? We need jump on that quick

From my Draft guru buddy D69.

Some discussion of the Knicks thinking Leonard has value and would fit well in the triangle.
Who said that? I thought Jackson might like Turner, but Leonard?!!! Oops, I see it's already answered.

Sup.

But yeah those weren't reports. Just suggestions. And they didn't include Plumlee

And that reminds me; I dreamed up a trade a couple weeks ago where we trade Turner and Leonard and our three draft picks for Carmelo and #8 and #44.

Would you trade #15 + Leonard for #22 + #27?

I'd be tempted.
No. In the NBA, quality > quantity. In general, you win the trade if you get the best player involved. Presumably, the player picked at No. 15 SHOULD be better than either of the other two. Having Leonard on the roster isn't hampering the team in any way. If you don't like him, sit him on the end of the bench or trade him for a future second rounder. Or maybe his body heals up, he spends his summer talking to a sports psychologist, and he's more productive next season. Many things are possible. ;)

Why don't people like him? There are a host of forum members who are adamantly against this Collins.
Doesn't play defense.
I tried to watch a couple of his games. The first one I watched, he only played like 10 minutes due to foul trouble. Didn't do anything to positively impact the game.

He plays as much defense as Amar'e after his surgeries. I dont know this for certain this is just his reputation but it sounds like he plays meyers level bad.

I have been asking myself this as well. I think people assume he can't play D????? but from what I read he has the athletic ability to be able to. Whether he did in college should not be a factor. He looks to be a decent shot blocker

Still think he could play the four. Not full time, but enough to profile next to nurkic.

What prospects did D69 tell you to watch out for this year?

His troubles are not in his athleticism but rather his BBIQ

I saw someone mention Batum as a comparison as a long dude who could create offense. I just don't see it. He's so much closer to Crabbe than he is Batum.

Disagree. Personalities are hard to change. If a player doesn't give a damn about D in college, it's tough to get them to care about it in the NBA.

Worse from what I saw.

Patton can shoot like Crabbe from the outside?

Are you confusing Patton with Jackson?

Has anyone else noticed that Ferguson--who was tabbed a lottery pick a couple months ago--has dropped all the way down to 29? Any idea why he's dropped so far? Has he been having underwhelming workouts?

Think people realized that his hype from HS was not warranted after his weak year last year. He's not as good a prospect as Mudiay or Jennings (others who left the country while skipping a year of college).

Sure if it is his true personality. But based on just watching Fultz at washington or Simmons at LSU I would then have to pass on both because their "personality " looked liked they were selfish and didn't give a fuck about winning. But in reality I would not pass on either.

Defense...poor rotations, gets completely lost, slow footwork and gets abused if taken out on the perimeter but it's no better down on the block. Just very poor defensively despite his offensive accomplishments.

I think we should wait to see how the draft plays out before making assumptions about what front offices actually think about him. What I'm saying is, fuck mocks. I'd be surprised if any of them got much right outside the top 5 picks.

So....DX currently has Frank Ntilikina dropping to us at 15. That would actually be insane.

He's completely miscast on this team, but that level of talent at 15 would be madness. Also I'm sure we could get a pretty penny if we decided to trade him.
